  • YEAH!!!! Daft-punk music!!

  • can this bad boy play pc games like Yumme Nikki, Eversion, Don't Look Back, VVVVVV, Tower of Heaven, Cat Planet, Runman, etc?

  • i really want to buy one of the gpx gaming devices but i dont have a sd card on my pc. are you able to upload games having the gpx hooked up via usb cable with a sd card

  • @Pandabearmadness yep mine came with a usb cable that allows you to transfer it to the card.. even though its a little slow

  • f-100 is much better

  • i got the dingoo instead, more professional looking but this seems to have better software. oh well both are good

  • Its start screen kinda looks like the PSP's in a way.

  • i think they were going for a familiar thing you know like how theirs a touch scree witch is like the ds and how it also looks like a psp and small like a gameboy micro

  • Are emulators allready loaded on or do you have to go find those online. Also is there a GBA emulator?

  • Download them, and yes.

  • yeah... i bet that is kinda unrespectful... however, they don't mind, the creators say haha

  • Go 명텐도!

  • this isn't Myungtendo.

  • Why not? this is the thing called Myungtendo in Korea... lol

  • In February 2009, South Korean president Lee Myung-bak had once stated that "Korea needs to develop a video game console like a Nintendo DS."This statement was parodied as the "Myungtendo MB", an obvious rip-off of the Nintendo DS.While completely unrelated to the Myungtendo incident, the GP2X Wiz is often nicknamed as the "Myungtendo", due to its release shortly after the statement. - from wiki.

i think calling this product Myungtendo is very disrespectful to the creators.

  • screen is too small. They should make screen more wider like PSP.

  • It's impossible to make something more wider. You could make it wider, or more wide.

But seriously, the wiz is all about powerful portability. It's small enough to fit into your pocket, while the PSP is huge. The Wiz also has twice the power of the PSP.

  • The graphics on the official games are just the beginning. Besides, this console is meant for homebrew and emulators up to PSX.

  • agreed,I just know that Wiz has better performance than PSP since the game that come out for advertisement make it look already being outclassed

  • Does it will come with more languages?

  • this can play quake 3, so tons more mods will be ported to it as well.

  • No it can't. It plays Quake II, though, maybe that's what you were thinking of?

  • He was thinking of the new Pandora hand held.

  • Um your overlooking where are the fucking joysticks! or even other buttons~! who cares how good it is in mhz and all that bullshit if you cant play a decent game on it! I dont know if it has any bumpers but atleast psp has a joystick and bumpers

  • they have shanged the design so there are 4 face buttons. this console is for emulating SNES, NES, etc, a joystick is not needed.

  • The Wiz has L/R triggers and the less I say about the PSP joystick the better.... >_>

  • Anyone know the exact release date? I know this month but most sites just say *shipping in feb 2009*

  • mar 2009

  • 2 dpads. wtf?!?!?!?!?

  • no, the right one just looks like a d-pad but its your regular buttons a, b, x, and y

  • In the newer models the d-pad has been split up, so you can press more than two buttons at once

  • Great. Now I can take my wiz all over the street, and on the fire hydrants.

  • I love the GPs all the way from the 32 to the 2X but that thing is just plain ugly!

  • that thing is far from ugly. Your ugly

  • So you like the idea of having 2 dpads then? People have been doing it for ages and so far it has proven to work out. Ie: N64 Controller has 2 dpads and that is bloody hard to use. Virtual boy: 2 dpads make the games hard to play.

Get my point? 2dpads won't work well for an open source handheld built for emulation like the wiz.

  • Well, the second dpad is actually the "buttons" if you look closely, so I really don't think it's a dpad... it might be the design that's fooling you, but I do agree that the shape of a dpad for the buttons will strongly affect gameplay.

On the other hand, the overall design in my opinion is pretty sleek and looks promising. However, I was hoping for a Tapwave Zodiac kind of design... oh well. :)

  • Thanks for clearing that up beyondboredomproduc! :)

  • I'm confused, is the GP2 a rip off from the DS or is the DS ripped of of GP2?

  • they aren't rip offs or either. gp2x is used for home brew and emulation, the ds is a console for modern games, and is more commercially avalible(like not only on the internet)

  • so the q is , this or Pandora?

  • depends 200$ or 300$?

  • I am one of the 3000 lucky pandora owners by November, :)

    It is going to rock

  • pandora sucks dick, get a gizmondo n00b

  • I would love to git a giz. But the community is D.E.A.D. There is like 5 people. So its best to get something that is still supported. I still have a PSP, but I still want homebrew also

  • Actually, the community is far from dead. There's 22,000 registered users on Gizmondo forums, the homebrew coders don't make apps designed to break your system (*psp* *cough*). The community is the one thing i can assure you is not dead.

  • > would love to git a giz. But the community is

    > D.E.A.D.

I'm about to join the community.

You just don't understand Linux developers. The first GP32 was just too awful. Needed standard batteries, ran for 30 minutes on them, etc - I never wanted one.

This I want. A lot of people will love this. They are already selling well in Asia.

  • > I am one of the 3000 lucky pandora owners by

    > November, :)

    >

    > It is going to rock

The Pandora to me is nothing more than an EEPC with some integrated joysticks, and an ARM processor with no MMU - and they cost the same price as an EEPC.

The design of the Pandora's case is just plain awful. I don't need a freaking keyboard to play games.

  • but you do need one to surf the net efficiently

  • > but you do need one to surf the net

    > efficiently

I'm not particularly interested in that. Especially on a teeny tiny display.

If I wanted that, I'd get an EEPC. Frankly, I don't see why the Pandora folks didn't just approach EEPC to redesign the case for some optional joysticks and buttons. It would have cost about the same amount, been more powerful, and wouldn't have been any risk to the Pandora people and it could have opened a new market for EEPC.

  • Why don't you do that?

It it easy to whine and complain, it is difficult to actually do.

  • > Why don't you do that?

No money in it. It's as simple as that.

  • Well no, for starters this thing is pimping an OMAP 3530 SoC which features an ARM A8-Cortex, C64x+ DSP and PowerVR SGX.

The ARM Cortex CPU is a dual-issue superscalar architecture that humms at some 600+ Mhz. It includes an enhanced MMU, integer and floating point SIMD, NEON instruction set.

The C64x DSP is a independant CPU that can crunch math at GPU like speeds.

The PowerVR SGX sports a programmable pipeline (vertex and pixel shaders).

    It's a good system!

  • > The PowerVR SGX sports a programmable pipeline

    > (vertex and pixel shaders).

    >

    > It's a good system!

It's not anywhere near as fast as an Atom processor running at 1.5 Ghz, and it doesn't have an MMU, making a bit of a bitch to program.

The Pandora is just an expensive, slow, and easily crashed, EEPC with some joysticks attached, a smaller screen, a tinier keyboard, and the same pricetag.

I can EASILY run a PSX emulator on an EEPC. You MIGHT be able to with a Pandora - if you tweak it.

  • Check the specs of the OMAP 3530 and specifically the ARM Cortex and you will see there is indeed an MMU.

Further more while the CPU isn't clocked as high as the ATOM, the ATOM's CPU take alot longer to execute floating point multiplication and division.

Lastly, the C64x+ DSP on the Pandora can rip through vector math at INSANE speeds (WAY faster than what the Atom can do).

  • > Check the specs of the OMAP 3530 and

    > specifically the ARM Cortex and you will

    > see there is indeed an MMU.

    We'll see how they compare.

I know for a fact that Atom at 1.5Ghz is able to run PSXE at full speed without a problem. If the Pandora can as well, perhaps you're right.

I also know how terrible the GCC port to ARM is. It still doesn't do a decent job with the conditional instruction set after all this time. I hope oneday that is fixed, because ARM is a big market.

  • Both are for different audiences. Show me how you play a game on an EeePC standing at the bus stop. Pandora is a handheld, EeePC is not.

Basically you are saying, no one would ever want a laptop, because a desktop pc could be carried to other places as well.

  • Ported right the PSXE will also run very well but really who gives a shit about PSX games when this can pump out PS2+ level games!

If you want to really work with ARM CPU's, let the compiler do most of the work but roll up your sleeves and code your own assembler. My asm skills put the compiler to shame! :)

  • Ehhum...

I happen to own an Advent 4211, which also sports a 1.6 GHz Atom, I overclocked it, I can get around 10 FPS out of HL2, the pandora has Vertex and Pixel, infasct I should imagine, the eee pc being for cheap tacky people, is goign tosulc

  • Sorry, I meant 17 FPS out of HL2 :P

  • The only problem with this new one for me is the smaller screen (down from 3.5 to 2.8 inches for some reason).

  • I heard that they removed the second d-pad and replaced it with 4 buttons instead since this video was made.

  • Pandora is based off the GP2X handhelds ....

  • fuk u, the gp2x has no keyboard or anything that represents the gp2x

  • are you fucking stupid? the pandora is made based of the gp2x handhelds, but made with improvements that those consoles dont obviously have with a fucking keyboard being one of them.

  • The GP2X Wiz is basically an updated version of the GP2X which is basically and updated version of the GP32. The GP series came first.

The Pandora is for people who want a crapload of power and functionality out of a handheld and the GP2X Wiz is for people who don't need as much power and functionality. So their marketing to the same group of people but one of for people with more disposable income and the other is for people who don't want to spend as much.

  • The Pandora is a handheld with PDA capabilities (for the people that want everything in one though unnecessary, like iPhone) while this is a real handheld to run lots of apps of course but mainly all kind of homebrew apps like emulators, games etc etc...the Pandora too, but it's made for other computer-like things too like running Linux.

  • Fucktard. Pandora is a huge-ass power-brick. I personally don't need all that shit pandora has. Imo it's not worth the $300+ for that shit. Stick with the GP2X Wiz. I held ack on buying the previous versions, but this is just AMAZING

  • Huge power brick? how do you know? it hasn't even come out yet! all the show for now it's 3D renderings and plastic/shell prototypes

  • Judging by those prototypes they've come up with. With all that tech in there is probably will be though. I'm not saying it sucks or anything I'm just stating my opinion.

  • Damn that's one sexy handheld!

  • I'm in love:D

    And it has Linux!!

  • bigger than i thought

  • does this thing have internet?

  • From what I've heard there is no Wi Fi. Though I don't see why it would need it really.

  • Oh great...which one should I get...this or the pandora?

  • i would prefer the pandora, but the pandora costa 250€ and the WIZ only 150, so the pandora is no choise for me T_T

  • I've been saving up for a GP2X F200, should I wait and get this instead?

  • Because it's harder, better, faster, stronger ^_____^

  • wait and see I guess, though this sounds much better than the f200. Which wasn't very popular in the community.

  • > wait and see I guess, though this sounds much

    > better than the f200. Which wasn't very

    > popular in the community.

The F200 was more difficult to develop on. That's why I wasn't interested in it.

This is fast, sleek, has a lithium ion battery, and is easy to write code for and develop on. I couldn't care less about the touch screen.

  • Actually, it's a Lithium Polymer battery.

  • > Actually, it's a Lithium Polymer battery.

Well, whatever, as long as it's not a bunch of AA cells that die in 30 minutes.

I am looking forward to the release. It will be fun to code on.

  • Ditto. :D

  • I have the F200 why in the world did they stop making it this wiz crap looks so ugly why would anyone what one?

  • > I have the F200 why in the world did they

    > stop making it this wiz crap looks so ugly

    > why would anyone what one?

It's a lot faster than the F200, and I like this case design more myself. F200 didn't lend itself readily to development either in my opinion which is why I never picked one up.

  • I might actually consider getting one of these if I don't have enough money to spare when the pandora comes out...

  • I need more info!

I never had a gp2x, but I allwais liked to have one.

It will continue to have tv out?

Quake 3 can be ported? I think it have power for run it (and games with same engine).

It have no wifi, but can use sdio card?

  • Quake 3 may be portable, if it was on the last model it will be on here.

It will have TV out, No wifi, uses regular cheapo SD cards, The 2nd D-pad is being replaced with normal face buttons, it will be out in november(been delayed one month for button changes and headphone jack change to a normal 3.5)
