  • The Master laughed too.

  • @52nuggets I would say Patti LaBelle is the only reason to watch this! She is brilliant here.

  • no cyndi lauper or michael jackson :(

  • Michael Jackson should have been at that concert!

  • Best singer was Daryl Hall at 5:40 - but Patti ruined his brilliant part.

  • The very best adlib of the entire song is at 5:40 by Daryl Hall, who sings so soulfully in FULL voice in a very high and difficult key! But this great bit was so sadly marred by the idiotic so-called soul screaming of Patii Labelle. Best example of how a white man can sing soul so much better than a black woman!

  • @Sharkim66 Erm Daryl Hall, seriously! Patti Labelle was fierce, no contest Im afraid.

  • @Popstuff100 Agreed. Daryl Hall!?!? I mean, seriously. I have watched this clip a hundred times over the years, just for Patti LaBelle. The rest of it is pretty mediocre.... .and parts downright embarrassing. Patti, though... is supernaturally good.

  • THAT DOES SOUND LIKE BOB DYLAN AT 1:26 ITS HIRIOUS.

  • I've listen to "we are the world" a thousand times, and i'm still crying every single time i hear it. <3

  • @jhrrussell2 I'm afraid you're the only one who sees it like that mate ;)

  • I missed Billy Joel & Micheal Jackson so much o n this concert. it would have been even better (though that's hardly even possible) p.s. has anyone got a patti labelle removal tool i could use it right now

  • What the hell is that noise at 1:26???

  • Joan Baez. Lovely.

  • @willruddock I totally agree...

  • I believe it was a licencing issue. At the time of when this event was being put together there was issues around who would own the footage and the audio during the event. So this was a huge hindrance and explains why there was a number of huge artists not at this. This also explains why not a lot of footage doesn't exist of the event. There is a few hours from MTV when they used it to rebroadcast. Kind of sad really.

  • where was michael jackson that day? why he doesn't there with his friends?

  • @simon1157 He was either working on Bad or Catain Neo

  • The egos took over completely...Dylan had to go for a piss at 2.17..and who is that tart hogging the mic at 1.26 to 1.30...Sheena Easton?????

  • @bobwaits i think that Bob had to leave early because hes so famous that he would get chased down by fans after the concert so he had to hurry up and get out of there.

  • why wasnt mj at this?? can anyone explain pls.

  • @MultiMjfan1 I think it was simply cos Bob Geldof didn't invite Michael to come

  • @MultiMjfan1 . There are a couple of resons why MJ and a few others' didn't play. He was approached by the American organizers but there was rumour that he didn't think Live Aid would work or wasn't interested, he wasn't the only one, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and others' seemed to follow his lead. Another problem was the promoter Bill Graham; "Angry, difficult, control freak". Alot of billed acts ended up not playing because of his obnoxious behaviour towards them. Hope this is sort of answers'

  • at 3:32.. the guy whispers to patti... your turn has long been over. pass the mic"

  • Thank God that Sister Patti came in to save this mess lol!

  • @jhrrussell2

hahaha ur rite its seems like a mess

  • @stanphoenix yes michael jackson & lionel ritchie wrote this song for charity-missing mj voice.

  • who is the lady singing at 3:05??????

  • @MellerzC

    That's Patti LaBelle at 3:05

  • @lgfannie she is ont good...just want to be the best having not good voice...

  • Interesting how Bob Dylan realises this is a shambles @ 2:15 and makes a quick escape

  • okay, i admit that patti's singing gets a bit annoying towards the end of the song... but she sounds absolutely amazing at the beginning!

and to be honest: there are obviously some singers on that stage who must be completely tone deaf, sometimes it sounds like some ppl sang it in a bar at 3 o'clock in the morning...

don't get me wrong, the whole spirit of the concert is great, and there are VERY talented singers involved (tina, lionel, dionne...) but they could have done it better, musically

  • What I would give for a megawatt shock to Patti Labelle. 6 performers to every other mic and shes got a death grip on hers with no means to share it! Her shrieks are a nail through the brain.

  • we are the world <333 mj for life

  • Could someone, PLEASE, for the love of all that's good, pull the plug on the mike carrying that SCREAMING banshee Patti LaBelle??? Talk about ruining the whole thing!! Mick Jagger & Tina Turner are standing in the back while this shrieking freak and Melissa "who cares" Etheridge are hogging the mikes up front! And Sheena Easton sings while Daryl Hall is in the background?? Didn't these guys watch the Wembley stadium concert? At least they tried to put the Band-Aid soloists up front

  • @Mp25DIII to actually sing their parts! I think the Ethiopian government paid to have Patti's part edited out

  • Wonderful fond memories!

  • can u believe they tried to remake this song??? In this day and age, there is no way that it could have worked..sorry guys.....

  • @PrinceApocalypse agreed

  • Great Concert! Although I still laugh at 1:28, What's that ?

  • @ZackerZerack LMFAO probably not

  • Comment removed

  • all here have respect to dionne !

    nice points dionne

  • diva pattie put them all in check and show them all how it should be done . sing pattie sing you stole the show the diva of them she shut down

  • Damn that was a real mess. but a good one :)

it happens when you wanna be "humble" and perform without any kind of sound check! :P

  • 2:55 OKAY???

Pencils down, papers to the front of the class.

  • the best live version with many singers was in 99 at pavarotti and friends, in Italy, much better

too many cooks spoil the broth lol

  • Patti and Dionne did save that night cause it was a hot mess!

  • LMAO! I LOVE PATTI LABELLE!

  • sounds kinda.. weird

  • LMAO sooo many people singing off tune, this is funny as hell!!

  • The sound check man was dead on to prove that this concert was almost complete bullshit and was completely appropriate to throw in that exasperating moan.

  • Oh Shennah Easton was the worst!! It´s that because shw is nothing in 2009 and Joan Baez and Chrissie Hynde are rock icons. And about Cyndi Lauper? What´s the reason she wasnt in this concert?

  • Obviously they had sound problems , which is strange considering how many hundreds of people were involved in this production. Kinda disappointing....

  • "During the final piece, I was drunk and my legs were shaking," autobiography of Eric Clapton

  • WTF!? XD the male voice at 1:28 XD

  • @martin290193 HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA :) FUNNY AS HELL!

  • the moan was a sound tech doing a "sound check." you can see him in the upper right corner of the screen.

  • For some reason that moan at 1:26 sounds like bob dylan to me...

  • @whoseanb rofl im in tears

  • Lol. this was a total mess haha. But what do you expect when 100 singers try to sing a song with no reharsal and only a couple of the original singers of the song are there.

And lol at these people from other countrys saying "who's that black woman screaming" lol @ you fools. That MS DIVA PATTI LABELL, Get it right. SHe saved this disaster of a concert. Best female vocalist ever with whitney and mariah.

  • @whoseanb Patti Labelle did save this disaster

  • ur right she really did!

  • that many people its hard to compose and give direction it was an awesome performance.

  • they skip the verses and you see Lionel was trying to go back to the verses in the beginning.

  • MICHAEL JACKSON did not participate in the chaotic LIVE AID concerts (for good reason).

He & Lionel Richie wrote ~WE ARE THE WORLD~ for USA FOR AFRICA (United States Artists for Africa), founded by HARRY BELAFONTE & KEN KRAGEN (LR's manager).

The official version of WATW was released as a single, an album & a video 7 MONTHS BEFORE before Bob Geldof's LIVE AID concerts in Philly (shown here) & the UK.

This drunken, drugged LIVE AID 'finale' quickly became a HUGE EMBARASSMENT to MANY.

  • @zimmiesgirl This song you speak of though, was inspired by the British charity single ;Do They Know It's Christmas', which was written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure and became the biggest selling single, well before 'We Are The World' which was an American response to the same famine. That's why the concerts were organised on both sides of the Atlantic by Geldof who was the mastermind for it all with Ure.

  • Patti labelle sings only by herself with her boring shrieks all time, she doesn't sing with other singers, this sounds very bad and ruins the song, she drowns the melody. You must sing all together, not to show how you are able, people want to hear the song, not the singer. I think Michael doesn' like it

  • @crazydiamond983 spot on. Patti RUINED the song she wasnt even on the originakl version. What an idiot.

  • Patti and Dionne tore it up here!

  • who thefuck is the woman who is trying outsing the loudest one ? she sounds like shit

  • Patti LaBelle >>> GOOD LORD>>>AWFUL

  • who is singing at 2:56? wow!

  • @00schatt That's Patti LaBelle

  • What the hell??? it's for a freakin cause.. start trying to outsing each other... Que Horror!

  • this woman's got serious ego problems

  • This sounds TERRIBLE!

  • jesus lol 4:12

  • hahahahhaha omg! its scared me! lmao

  • where is michael jackson ??????

  • in los angeles.. death??

  • *********** HALT DEIN MAUL DU SPASST

  • 1:34 far out check out the microphone hog...wat a stink one aye ?

  • Joan Baez wrote about that (very amusingly) in her memoire a few years later. Sheena Easton was suppsoed to sing one line solo, and then she, Baez and, Chrissie Hynde were supposed to sing "it's true we make a better day, just you and me" together, but once Sheenah had the mic she decided to play "diva".

  • wonderful 100plus!!! i love this one

  • Patti sooooo hogged the mike...lmao

  • haha youre right!!!! lol

  • There are what? 100 plus people on that stage... trying to out sing Patti is like a light house trying to out shine the sun.

The woman has more power then the space shuttle.

  • patti tore it up ;)

  • Patti owns.

  • I love it

    i love it

  • this is very emotional trully it is

  • Wow!! Patti Label!! She is amazing!!

  • love dionne's part

  • Patti TURNED that all around...because it was so BLAH!

  • This is the most horrible thing I have ever seen.

  • This was back in the 80's when people genunely cared about making the world a better place, now its cliche and passe'

  • ok, the second set of vocals by Patti were a little bit too much, the first time around were enough, she should of passed it up and it lasted much too long.

  • honey i think that Patti was PUSHED out front to sing that.

  • She wasn't pushed out, she did her. The whole performance was lame but personally I think her touch didn't fit the song at all, it didn't help. The whole ending event was a mess anyway. I don't think Patti always grandstands but this is one of 2 times I saw her do it, the second was her live performance with Michael McDonald

  • o per...lease....Patti is the greatest! She saw what a sham it was and made it better....she is props one of the if the the greatest female vocalists ever! and this proves it

  • whatever!

  • the mics were horrible for this event, only the lucky had working mics

  • excuse me! Patti is the best vocals there!

  • what happned to some of the singers only saw some of them there

  • amazing. I can never get over how amazing this song is.

  • karen carpenter told patti to sing a song! dont worry if its not good enough for the haters to hear!!

  • that person you guys are referring to is MISS PATTI LABELLE. yes, sings...she had to cuz nobody was!

  • around 1:25 in, what the hell is that giant moan? I've watched this clip literally over 30 times, and it never gets unfunny. Who is it?!?!?!?!????? hahahaha

  • the guy at the far right of the stage doin a mic check, you can hear him makin noise throughout the whole song.

  • I´m stucked on the 1:25 now. He sounds like a huge PIG or something. It´s exactlly what someone would NEVER do in a HUGE concert.

  • @rcocenzo lmfao

  • Joan Baez! i wish she covered some michael jackson songs

  • Comment removed

  • Sheenah Easton was supposed to sing "There's a choice we're making, we're saving our own lives", by herself and then she, Joan Baez and Crissie Hynde were supposed to sing "It's true we make a better world, just you and me" together, but once she had the microphone, decided to play "diva" and hoarde it all to herself. That's why you see Baez reaching awkwardly for the mic and Chrissie completely cut off.

  • I absolutely love this song. :D I agree with pannoni1. =D

  • OMG the sreeching from that woman....make it stop....

  • lol

  • are u joking shes the best singer there!

  • Is that Mr Clapton on guitar?

  • yes i think it is :)

  • While this would've been a great concert to attend, I think this final number could've definitely been improved.

To me, it looks like they all jumped on stage at the end and tried to pull something together to end on a good night.

Personally, I think the sound quality is bad and they didn't even use the original singers.

    :/

  • If one event sums up "1985 in music", this is it.

  • Awh, my mom did a remake of this when she was in broadcast radio&tv college...years ago :)
