The singer here was mstly impersonating Al Jolson when he sang, even the songs he chose, most of which Jolson made famous. When he tells Gomer at the camp fence the title of the sngs they should add to the act, they are mostly Jolson stand-outs. He even mimics Jolson as he ask Gomer if he's familiar with the tunes. After the biopic The Jolson Story, the industry was crazy about Jolson throughout the 60's. Many artst covered the old Jolson tunes. Malik Jubal
