I heard he was body surfing and got thrown onto the rocks by the wave and hit his head and was killed instantly. He was floating in the water but the lifeguards couldn't reach him until the set was over

I asked the lifeguard and apparently they ban body boarding and surfing on The Wedge until after 5pm. There was definitely more action once the surfers and body boarders came out.
