Oh My god! It sounds great! I have my amp for rehearsing and I bought an Spider IV 30 for practicing at home. Since I bought that lil' devil I found the sound that I had in my head!!! And I have tons of fun!! AND NOW THIS KILLER DEMO!!! Wow!!! I'm thinking of buying this head!!! And I always wanted a H&K or Marshall!! What the Hell is going On????
the pre amp in the amp isnt tube its digital then runs in to a pre amp tube all the clean and dirty tones of this amp is all in the digital pre amp. now the pre amp tube warms it up some before going to the power amp. i have own many of the spider and spider valve amp love them all. but the spider valve sounds the same but a little warmer and way more volume. the 40w 212 spider valve is way louder then the 150w 212 spider 1,2,3,4. and the louder the spider valve the better it sounds.
good demo of this amp. the opeth part was well done. the amp isn't what makes all the sound. the way the person plays and their personal style is what is going to create the majority of the tone as well. it doesn't matter if you have hella good gear if you suck at guitar its gonna sound like crap. keep up the good stuff
Excellente Rig bro, that's precisely the exact Rig I'm about to get. The Spider Valve MK2 HD100 plus the 212 Mesa Rectifier Cab bro. Excellent excellent choice.... Nice rig man, you have an ESP guitar too? what is it? eclipse? deluxe? anyways man, excellent rig... Show Off!!!! hahahaha Good one man.
@rickyjshiznit It is a Full tube amp, hooked with 4 12AX7's on the preamp... and 4 6L6 on the power amp. What makes this amp a "hybrid"... is the fact that it has integrated effects that can be adjusted digitally. But the amp Fully operates on tubes....
@Ryanmetalmatthew To be honest most of the presets are still pretty stale. They just had the artists come in, dial in a tone, and then named it after them, haha. But while they're not accurate depictions of the artists sound on their albums or whatever, a lot of them do sound pretty nice.
@Ryanmetalmatthew Lol no worries. Just the amp and the cab I've got paired with it. Sound quality was actually diminished a bit seeing as I just used my webcam mic, but you'll be happy with it. :) Find a preset that sounds relatively nice, and then tweak that to get your sounds. Enjoy the amp.
Really this sounds much better than anything I could have expected. Especially from Line 6. The MK I was competing with the Alchemist, and it desperately failed because it lacked character, it still kinda sounded--digital. the MK II though, has edged out the Alchemist this time around. I'd like to see how it stacks up against the DT50. So far from what I've heard, the MK II might still be the winner.
To really get a good sound on this it's best to hook it up to your computer. I think the floorboard and amp combo are great. I been playing with a Flextone I HD (300 watts kaboom!) and had it for 10 years. Say what you want about line 6 but I think they are a great amp company and I like built in everything. Not to mention balanced xlr and a variety of extras. But i gotta tell ya that when I hooked it up and used the SV MKII edit software i was making the amp do crazy stuff I've never heard b4.
Is that last solo you play "Become the Catalyst" i'm not sure because I haven't listened to the song in forever but it sounds familiar. Nice playing and tone btw
I tried out the first model today, (Not MKII) and it bit my fucking head off! I gotta find some samples that would describe the chorus effect in the Spider Valve MkII - because the one in the first model sucked!
I really liked what the amp could do. It was also damn LOUD!
I own the exact same halfstack and these tones absolutely own. Don't listen to these pussy ass haters. WTF is a "real tube amp"? This has tube preamp and poweramp, and not just any tubes, BOGNER tubes. This amp is the shit and if you can't recognize them you don't know guitar
For metal you'd have been better off with the 6505+ & buying a vintage amp for your cleans. The line 6 idea is fantastic but in reality all the sounds are only ever 'quite good'. Never amazing. I have owned plenty of Line 6 stuff and keep one as a backup but there is simply no substitute for a quality tube amp, only a compromise. Generally Line 6 cleans are better than all their distortions. Stale is the word commonly used for their metal tones but for recording they sound ok but again not great
@smsguitarist Yeahhh, if I had the money I'd do that. If I had the money I'd grab an ENGL and be happy. But I don't. So I go for the compromise, lose a great metal powerhouse, yeah, but gain a 'quite good' of everything else. I'm not trying to pitch this in any way other than to say that for the money there's nothing as versatile.
@smsguitarist well, ive found my perfect tone with my line 6, its only a spider 3 hd 75. i play it through an old 80's peavey butcher cab with mk12 85s in it. i cant find a really nice distortion sound in amps without a pedal. but with the line 6 its perfect :D
@smsguitarist 6505+ amps are amazing, but it depends on a decision you have to make for an all tube amp with straight forward great metal tone, or an all around diverse amp that has tubes in it with just as much warmth/crunch/distortion in it as you could possibly need.yes of course the line 6 distortion is stale, on their solid state products.but this isn't designed just by Line 6, but with of one Reinhold Bogner(one of the worlds leading tube amp techs.) together made 1 deadly competetive amp
@KittySniper37 I'm being 100% honest, I don't remember. And to be honest your tone is going to vary based on tuning. I know for a fact that my sound changes going from drop C (this recording) to Open B tuning, and then I have to tweak. Only advice i have is don't crank the gain too much, somewhere between 5-7 is good. Don't scoop your mids. My mids are usually the highest setting (around 3 o' clock). And then just fiddle with everything else until you're happy. Sorry I can't be of more help.
@KittySniper37 for the one at 058 the gain is at abot 6, bass 7.5 mids at 5, treb at about 4.5, reverb at about 6, unless he is using a preset then idk srry
1. Recording process was a WEBCAM MIC. Yep, because that really conveys the sound right?
2. Tube preamp section, tube poweramp section...what else does it take to make a 'real tube amp'?
Learn your shit, get over your elitist attitude. Prior to this I owned a 6505+, traded it in for the SpiderValve. 6505+ obviously has a great straight metal sound, but there's nothing special about the clean tone. SpiderValve does a TON of sounds really well. Versatility > One trick pony.
@genocide66 yeah i agree with most of what you said, but line 6 sounds digital, not analog. even though there are tubes, i have heard that amp live before, and it doesnt compare to a traditional tube amp. It may be great sounding for some things, but in my opinion, this amp is just another Line 6.
@jackwontknow1 Please whisk me off to any recording that has more tube sound. Even though its a Chinese cam mic i can still hear what i hear in Munky's sound from Right Now, intro especially. This 'sweet' as some say top end that i heard only from valve amps. I really want to hear it!!!
Nice Job! I also tried a 6505+ and a mesa dual rectifier before I decided on the line6 spider valve hd100. Both of those amps are amazing at what they do, but they only do one thing well. With the line6 you have so much versatility and I love that I can have insane distortion at low volume when playing by myself, but also dial it back and crank it up for playing with a group without losing tone since it's a genuine tube amp. The tone is altered by the camera and also placement of the camera.
I totally agree! I just switched my recto for one of these mkii's, could never find a decent inbetween sound until now, plus I find it doesnt need to be cranked quite as hard to come alive. Best move I made (just doesnt look quite as cool though haha)
@genocide66 true but i'm not diggin' the sound, just my opinion though, my friend has one of these and it just doesnt seem to have the real tubey sound like a 6505. super punchy and delicious hella ballsy haha
@jackwontknow1 You are so biased!!! You do not listen you just assume that Line6 sounds digital coz they make plugins full stop. The worst thing is that most people are like that and thats why marketing works so so well. Show me a recording of an amp that has more fatness and softness and this valve tone character that this amp has. To me in this particular recording and amp setting etc this amp sounds more valve then many 'real' valve amps. Regards
Hey man, nice plaing, I m planning to buy the same amp and its nice to hear someone with such a clean sounding recording method ;) So where you using any of the direct outputs of this badboy or did you mic it up in some way for this video?
Also, after owning the amp for some time now, what are your thoughts about it, especially when it comes to metal sounds?
@Espstar Honestly, it's recorded with the webcam mic, hah. Nothing special at all, so it didn't carry the sound TOO well, but it did the job. Enough for YouTube at least. After having it for a few months, I'm happy with the purchase. The versatility is just a blast, and I've changed my metal sound around a bit, playing with some presets and adding my own twist. Gotten a lot of really big, beefy sounds and some pristine solo sounds too. You'll enjoy it if you pair it with the right cab.
i really appreciate you making this videoit makes me want this amp even more and finally theres someone that know how to play and set up a good tone, my only question is why you chose the mesa cab does have a better sound than outhers youve tried?
i really appreciate you making this videoit makes me want this amp even more and finally theres someone that know how to play and set up a good tone, my only question is why you chose the mesa cab does have a better sound than outhers youve tried?
@glock19x300 update: Have owned the head and matching cab for two weeks now, SICK. Just get it if you are looking at or considering this amp. My previous amp was a dual rec an I like the Spider Valve mkll more.
@genocide66 what settings did you use for the metal rhythm ? i also own the amp and was curious i have my 3rd channel set for a more marshall type gain but wanted to change it
I have, and yes. Dear God yes. Any of the solid state Spider amps all...well, they really do sound super digital. The distortion just sounds thin and weak no matter how many EQs and boosters and whatnot you want to put in front of it. It's just really dry. Spider Valves, even the combos, have a pretty sweet, thick, clear distortion with a lot of clarity depending on your settings. Voiced through my Mesa cab it's just beefy as hell.
well i agre with you, the valve sounds to clear even with hi gain on, but they made this spider IV to cool, sounds better that the others, its just matter of time to get your tone...
Sounds Awesome !!! Metal rhythm definately most impresing but clean and crunch superb as well. I have already ENGL and im happy. You cant have everything :D
What speakers do you have loaded in that Mesa cab? I'm looking into getting a SV MkII head and using it with a 2x12 cabinet but don't know what would be the best speaker setup. Yours sounds pretty awesome.
Vintage 30s rated at 70W per speaker. Bought it used for 350, really really enjoying it. If you buy one new the mids might sound harsh at first, speakers just have to be broken in.
I'm loving mine. For the price you can't really go wrong, just keep in mind that it's still a modeling amp. To get the tone you want you will have to do a lot of tweaking around. I got mine because I like a variety of sounds and tones and don't have the money to drop on a bunch of amps. I'm sure it can do a nice mid scooped metal sound no problem, just remember, gotta tweak with the settings a bit.
There's a small bit of delay on there, but the volume was turned down quite a bit...I had it maybe at 2 o' clock, otherwise the mic on the camera was getting distorted, hah. I'll have an updated video within the next few weeks or so, recording with an E609 mic to give a better idea of the sound I'm getting. And it'll be cranked, hah.

Thanks for posting this vid, I was having a hard time finding vids with the tones that I usually go for on this amp.

@glock19x300 update: Have owned the head and matching cab for two weeks now, SICK. Just get it if you are looking at or considering this amp. My previous amp was a dual rec an I like the Spider Valve mkll more.

It's an original. Myspace search The Clarion Call, you can hear the full song.

ohh.. with the emg 81 and 60 right?
malakian201 2 years ago
No 60, it's either 81/85 or 81/81, I'm not quite sure to be honest.
genocide66 2 years ago
ohh, well its emg so dont worry, sounds very good..
have you played in a spider IV?
be honest, is there too much diference in sound?
malakian201 2 years ago
I have, and yes. Dear God yes. Any of the solid state Spider amps all...well, they really do sound super digital. The distortion just sounds thin and weak no matter how many EQs and boosters and whatnot you want to put in front of it. It's just really dry. Spider Valves, even the combos, have a pretty sweet, thick, clear distortion with a lot of clarity depending on your settings. Voiced through my Mesa cab it's just beefy as hell.
genocide66 2 years ago
well i agre with you, the valve sounds to clear even with hi gain on, but they made this spider IV to cool, sounds better that the others, its just matter of time to get your tone...
have u played with the pod x3 live??
cause i saw few famous guitarrist with it 0o
malakian201 2 years ago
If your ec1000 is stock the it is the 81/60 combo check out the site if ya don't believe me.

Yours sounds pretty awesome.
angstpristine 2 years ago
Vintage 30s rated at 70W per speaker. Bought it used for 350, really really enjoying it. If you buy one new the mids might sound harsh at first, speakers just have to be broken in.

I've been thinkin about getting this amp. Is it worth the investment? Goin for a Metallica sound (Black album and previous).

I'm loving mine. For the price you can't really go wrong, just keep in mind that it's still a modeling amp. To get the tone you want you will have to do a lot of tweaking around. I got mine because I like a variety of sounds and tones and don't have the money to drop on a bunch of amps. I'm sure it can do a nice mid scooped metal sound no problem, just remember, gotta tweak with the settings a bit.

goood stuff. what was the riff you were playign for rhythm?

Thank you for the wonderful addition and insight. I'm sure the categorization of this video is a big concern to youtube.

The metal lead and the metal lead sounds pretty good man. I'd add some little delay to the lead but... Thumbs up!
goldenaxeband 2 years ago
There's a small bit of delay on there, but the volume was turned down quite a bit...I had it maybe at 2 o' clock, otherwise the mic on the camera was getting distorted, hah. I'll have an updated video within the next few weeks or so, recording with an E609 mic to give a better idea of the sound I'm getting. And it'll be cranked, hah.

wow, good tone. i thought it would suck

I'm just going to assume this isn't sarcasm and go ahead and say thanks, hah.
