my eighth grade choir at my school did this piece for our last concert they did as AMAZING as this choir did!!!!!!!!!!! they memorized it too!!!!!!!!!
I personally think that this is the most accurate and passionate performance on You Tube--congrats to a fine high school choir and their superb director. Excellent!!!!
im actually singing this song in my honers choir class. (also in high school) and it only consists of 16 people... so far were doing pretty good. we can sing all of it memerized after a week and all of us enjoy singing it. if anyone ever has the chance to sing this, they really should... :3
Just to answer some of your questions and suspicions: Concert Choir is actually our high school's lowest choir that requires audition. We have higher, more selective choirs. The highest is the amazing Main Street Singers, which does tour the world.
When I first heard this I thought it was Robert Shaw or some professional choir. The voices sound so mature and well trained. But if you watch closely you'll see their posture. And their mouths you can see the proper vowel pronounciations and diction. I believe that this is just a very well trained choir. OUTSTANDING!!!
this music with those people is about the best you can have in music expiriance Mozart was a true genius and this choir is really eccelent thank you for the music. From Holland, Peer.
This is quite a good performance. One of the best I've heard, though not the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, or the Vienna Philharmonic, they have done an excellent job on Wolfie's requiem mass. Definitely the best I have heard from a such a young group of singers.
I was also in the Choir program at Los Altos High in the early 90's. Mark Shaull was and still is, THE BEST. Yes, they are highschool students and his choirs have been this excellent way before I was even there. The commitment that he instills in his students is beyond anything I have ever experienced in my academic life. Best experience ever. I am very happy to see that the music program is still going strong at LAHS.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this cannot be highschool students...the voices sound far too mature - like the kind of maturity you get as say...a 40 year old MAN - and the recording doesnt sound like it was done in a church at ALL.
@mychemicalrelapse Do you enjoy being so ignorant? Ever think that a comment such as yours might offend some of the singers in this video? Why don't you check out a few more of the videos 'mshorts' has kindly uploaded of this choir. Just because you can't believe it doesn't give you a right to call it a fake. YOU, have failed.
@gemitech9 lol well actually this is a comment board so i DO have a right to call it fake.
and if i offended the singers...well what can i say? maybe they'll take it as a compliment. Assuming that they actually sung this, which you havent convinced me of...
@mychemicalrelapse Just got back from work and I thought I'd respond to your post. It's very unlikely that you'll believe me, since you don't apparently have a lot of faith, but I was a singer in this video. Our high school has an amazing choral program and we worked very hard to learn/perform the entire Mozart Requiem. You can learn more about Los Altos High School here: mainstreetsingers (dot) com/aboutus.html
@gemitech9 I would advise not listening to the troll. ;) I'm a graduate of Los Altos High, and was in the Choir program (though I was only there my senior year and therefore didn't make it into Main Street). To those doubters, no one questioned your ability to doubt or comment on those doubts, they merely requested you be respectful. That said, the Choir Director is fantastic, and gets results. The joke was if a friend of yours got into Main Street, you wouldn't see them until graduation.
@coyote104 didn't have enough space in the last comment, but I wanted to say that I stumbled on this video purely by accident, and I was glad to see the Choir is still excellent. :) Congratulations on a song well sung, Gemitech.
Agreed. I've performed the Mozart Requiem many times. This performance is better than many done by professionals. The dynamics and responsiveness to the conductor are superlative.
This is amazing!! These kids make me feel so proud!! Who could deny that musical education is the key for young people to connect with the better angels of humankind from an early age?
IDK I performed this in high school and we did an amazing job considering but this choir seems small for such a big sound and i feel i have heard this version of lacrimosa somewhere before.
i am not trying to say these kids can't sound this good because they can but most high school choirs don't often have this mature of a sound when it comes to this song...
This is amazing!!! My choir teacher told us to listen to this on here and WOW it blew me away!! He is always telling us how good we r but wow compared to them we have a long way to go! Nice job!! [:
@stephaniedca -- I'll never forget the first time my H.S. choir sang at a conference with other state H.S. choirs. The sound was overwhelming and I hope the feeling I got is what I'll get when I die.
the new york area all-state is going to be doing this in november, which i am extremely proud and honored to be a part of this year. im SO excited to start working on this piece. X3
This is really good of the Lacrimosa, right now my chorus class is attempting to learn this.. there is no way we will be this good.. looking forward for the results (:
the sound is good, but i think they need to work on their diction... if i hadn't sung this song for my choir i would have had no clue what they were saying...
also, towards the beginning when they are singing "Qua resurget ex favilla," the notes shouldnt be connected. there should tiny little breaks in between to add emphasis of a realization (kinda like a little lost child in walmart)
It now appears that the Lacrimosa was not Mozart's work (source: Music academia). Mozart would never have ended the Lacrimosa with an 'accentato, subito fortissimo, forte'....AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know, I give in too!...but it means a progressively loud with expression!
To every group that posts this on youtube: SLOW DOWN. This piece is intended to be taken very, very slowly. It kills the drama if you take is so quickly. Slow it down.
@Filchmeister Actually, that's where you're wrong. The composer chooses the tempo, and specifically writes the tempo in the music. A little bit of fluxuation is normal and to be expected; obviously we don't expect it to be perfectly on tempo. But this is about 1.5 times as fast as written, at least. It is not how the piece is written.
It would be like taking a C minor chord written in a piece and changing the G to an A sharp because you feel like it, because you're the conductor.
I'm having a hard time believing this is a high school choir. If it is, it's the most professional group I've ever heard for HS. And I have a degree in Music Education.
Of course, the strings look like they have some more elderly people in them...but the sound just sounds too mature for these students. Close your eyes and listen to it...its too good.
@mshorts A very respectable job for high school aged voices. I directed a community choir performance of the Requiem, some years ago, and they didn't sound any better than these fine young folks.
@saxyman03 It's a matter of being musical by the time some one is senior in high school, she sounds mature if she is really interested in music and works hard.
@saxyman03 you're right. Even the pronunciation is impeccable. For someone who is not a native speaker of a Latin language, singing in Latin can be a bit difficult.
@saxyman03 But then again, most of them do not have music in front of the now do they? So it gives these highschoolers an advantage..they are really good though. Considering it is a highschool choir.
@saxyman03 I am thinking the same thing. If this were indeed a High School Choir, this would be an amazing performance and they should tour the world. But there is maturity and sonority in the lower men's and upper women's range that strikes me as being atypical for minors. And where are the brasses in the orchestra? What speaks for them are minor imperfections in diction, in particular, that they sing too hard an s in 'lacrimosa.' So kids, if this is really you, bravo.
@saxyman03 High school is where dreams start and potential is abundantly apparent. College and adulthood is where dreams go to die and potential falters.
@Vortex1988 Good sir, I hope dreams start at an even younger age. Dreams are snuffed out for many reasons, it is not an institutions fault for killing them, it is ours for not being diligent and faithful to them. If you are called to something, then it is you that needs to be faithful to it not matter what. We are not perfect, and holding onto anything is difficult. I would encourage you to hold onto something that lasts. Choose something eternal, something holy. Choose Jesus.
Perhaps this was a select group from the high school choir. My high school had a select choir and it was an honor to get into that group. Besides that, more alto (and the men's parts) please! :-)
Ah I've missed this piece! I sang it years ago in all county choir and I still remembered it.
Based on the name "concert choir" this is a select group from within the high school choir. My high school had a select choir and it was an honor to get into that group. Besides that, more alto (and the men's parts) please! :-)
Ah I've missed this piece! I sang it years ago in all county choir and I've still remembered it.
I would love for the fact to be true that this is a high school choir sounding this phenomenal. That would mean there are really quality music teachers out there doing there job and encouraging the next generations of music students.
@saxyman03 I can believe it. My school's choir can produce the exact same sound. It depends on the director, and how good HE is. That always reflects the singing. And im a junior.
@saxyman03 Amazing really, they sound exactly like the version of this I have on CD, in fact TOTALLY exactly, even down to the volume changes, so they are either the best high school choir in the world or there is something fishy going on....
VERY VERY GOOD for a high school choir...actually very good for a University Choir...however, one thing....I'm not to crazy about the choppiness at :30 and rushing of the chord progression 2:17-2:27...other than that...my goodness what voices!!! Kudos to this group!
Great Performance! So hard to hear the base at the end @ requi(em). We had the same problem when I was in school. So low, and need to be so loud to overpower so many other people. It truly is hard. Love the performance though! Truly! One of my favorites.
What great voices among what on the face of looks just like a group of ordinary high school students. The students of Los Altos High can feel justly proud at this performance of Requiem,
i didnt want to click the video, 1st it had a picture of young students.. 2nd it said high school... as the song played.. i expected a cheap copy of the original piece.. but i didnt hear hat, i heard either a pretty good lip sing.. or really talented choir students
Very very nice, guys are weak though. I only "hear" them because I KNOW they're supposed to be there lol

Why they sound so mature is because of the mix from the low frequencies(same chord/note but different frequency) and the

@saxyman03

@saxyman03
With everything said, I still have my doubts.
I would love for the fact to be true that this is a high school choir sounding this phenomenal. That would mean there are really quality music teachers out there doing there job and encouraging the next generations of music students.
saxyman03 1 year ago
@saxyman03 Why they sound so mature is because of the mix from the low frequencies(same chord/note but different frequency) and the
back to source( Mic/ear) reverb latency( The sound who comes back lose in high frequency). This choir is my favorite for this master piece!

I almost think the staccato parts in the beginning with the men were a bit much.
But other than that, that was fantastic, especially for a high school choir.
