Landlocked Yamanashi Prefecture is located immediately west of Tokyo in the Chubu Region. The northern half of Mount Fuji and the Fuji Five Lake region are located in Yamanashi Prefecture. Prefectural capital is Kofu.

Its drum-like rounded rectangular body, known as the dō, is taut front and back with skin in the manner of a banjo. The skin is usually from a dog or cat, but in the past a special type of paper was used and recently various types of plastics are being tried. On the skin of some of the best shamisen, the position of the cat's nipples can still be seen.
@nadia641 its Shamisen and its long time ago that ppl used cat and dog's skin. Also Sanshin which Rimi natsukawa is using is not same as Shamisen. its called Sanshin which is made by sneak skin.
Because Okinawa used to be a kingdom. Okinawa has an extremely tragic history in WW II, and stil has many lands occupied by US army bases. Now they still keep a very different culture, so when talking about music and history, you can never take Okinawa into the common concept of "Japan".
Rimi is great and has been my favorite ever since she came on the scene and even when she sang locally but please, she does not keep Japanese music alive, she keeps Okinawan music alive. Don't confuse the two.
Ultimately, God is Japanese. And the Natsukawa Rimi is another angel to inspire us.
