My great uncle was a marine pilot and he was shot down in vietnam and half his face was gone. He came back to the US alive and when i was born he gave me his necklace he weared in Vietnam and he die two months later.
man...no matter how many times i watch the movie i always get touched at the end. When i get the money im takin my dad a vietnam vet. to go to the memorial.
You should try to get him a ride in a Huey man. I'm 16 years old and have an Uncle that flew medevacs in and out of the thick of battle. Much like these pilots did. Just last weekend I got to ride in Huey Medevac 369. It was my first flight ever and it was in a Medevac Huey. Best thing I've ever done.
wow, that should be so awsome, only the sound of the engine's start up, and when you come of the ground by the take of. man, you flew in a legend,my dad flys a rescue helicopter: EC135, and a while ago, he asked an old friend if i could fly with that friend in his P-51D Mustang, that was so AWSOME, we've been up to 4G, and today i flew with my dad in the helicopter, but yeah, your first flight is allways special.
Funny how the screen writer was SOOOO interested in "getting it right" that he only told the story of the first third of the the book "We were soldiers once...and young". What the film fails to tell us is the massacre of the US soldiers at LZ Albany a day later. The 2nd 7th was ambushed while marching to a second pick-up landing zone. It was a route. As the title "We were soldiers" implies, the movie only tells part of the story "We were soldiers once...and young". More American propaganda.
