  • what if I use a distortion pedal? will it sound bad?

  • @guitarman7789 I think it's possible, but try to use a power supply for your pedal, it'll make the signal more constant. Also see to it that you do not generate too much feedback.

  • @leftpassenger no I mean, have you tried using distortion pedal then a guitar link usb... I just don't have guitar link so i cannot try at home.. I'm planing on buying if it will sound good.. pls try it for me hehee

  • @guitarman7789 Yeah, that's what I meant too. It should work, but since batteries aren't very consistent in power delivery, you should use a power supply for stuff like that.

  • @leftpassenger thanks

  • I have a horrible noise with this device. This makes unplayable hi gain presets... shit!

  • @iceman86it It is very sensitive, drop your volume down all the way to maybe 3 % and then it's playable

  • @leftpassenger i'm at 0%... :D

Fow now i will play Guitar Rig & TH2 with filters (noise gates)... in the future i wil buy a more serious interface. Thank you and have fun!

  • @iceman86it Yes, it's in no way an adequate solution for someone who wants to use this on a regular basis, I still have a practice amp and a full tube amp for rehearsals and gigs, I use this cable mainly to record some ideas. Good luck with the new interface then, I hear the Behringer one is quite good.

  • If i link this cable to the computer i can hear only Guitar Rig but i can't hear nothing else uot from the pc...this is only a mine problem?

  • @Firriolo96 I don't know, maybe it's how the program works? Try Amplitube 3 and see what that does. With that program I can play music from iTunes and play some guitar with amplitube :-)

  • 2:59 I thought it was going to bite me ¬ ¬

  • @RJNeXon lol :-P

  • hi,do you listen audio out pc speaker or line out on guitar link?

  • @mastersimon78 Audio out PC speaker

  • this is such a shit cable for guitar rig, cant get low latency. not with a pc with a xfi sound card and not with another pc that has an i7 processor. ive tried almost everything but asio4all and this cable are really shitty.

  • @silentjuh I'm sorry to hear that. There are other USB interfaces out there, this one is just the easiest one to work with because it's just one cable. I have some experience with Toneport from Line6 too, but I noticed the program crashed every time I ended a recording with it. I heard Behringer's interface is decent...

  • @leftpassenger im gonna use asio 4 all and the mic input with my sound card, works best imo. still nothing beats a real amp haha

  • @silentjuh Agreeing with you completely. Got a 3 channel All-valve amp, nothing can beat that!

  • Comment removed

  • this is such a shit cable with guitar pro

  • @silentjuh What are you mumbling about? You can't use this for guitar pro...

  • I bought it and connect it on the computer and did what the instructions said to do but it still did not work so I don´t know what to do. I installed the Guitar Rig 4 that came with it but I didn´t knew how to use the cable properly since it didn´t sound at all. If you could help me I would be very grateful.

  • I'm interested in one of these for my son to use with his PC. I presume he can use something like Amplitube, Guitar Rig 3 or Line 6 Gearbox? Is there any delay in the sound?

  • @husky041 As I said in the video, there can be small delay from time to time, but on the other hand if you restart the program the problem fixes itself

  • @leftpassenger Ok thanks. I'm just wondering whether to spend a little extra on the Behringer Guitar Link.

Btw I watched the distortion video.. are you left or right-handed?

  • @husky041 I'm ambidextrous, but I play right-handed. Sometimes I forget to mirror my videos that are recorded with my webcam ^_^''

  • it sounds horrible there is no tone.

  • @KhaarJoon This USB cable is in no way a replacement for an amplifier, just an easy way to record some ideas very easily. So yeah, there you go...

  • @leftpassenger Yeah I guess. I would just get a guitar interface :P

  • @KhaarJoon It's basically the same thing as a guitar interface, but this video was made before I had the chance to experiment with it a bit. Now I use amplitube, you should check out my DBZ theme cover (it's linked in the video here, I think)

But nothing compares to a good ol' tube amp ^_^

  • @leftpassenger haha. Oh yeah totally, Marshall + SM57 + Garageband = Tonal Win ;]

  • @KhaarJoon you can use other VST software like amplitube 3 to put the tones after recording.

  • @IScH45I I dont think you understand the concept of tone ...

  • do you not use an amp then?

  • @StuartMarshMusic No, it's just a direct feed into my PC.

  • @leftpassenger cool, thanks for the speedy reply :) just one more question though, if you wanted to, could you plug it in to the output of an amp and then into a computer?

  • @StuartMarshMusic I've never tried before, I guess you could, but you'd have to put the input volume on your PC extremely low, and it's already quite sensitive. But you could certainly try

  • @leftpassenger okay cool Thank you x

  • Sounds cool man =)))..

  • @RyanJRA64Abella Thanks!

  • did u use other sound card or something. or what is ur sound card ?

  • @hatsumomo535353 I have the basic soundcard of an iMac 2010 (summer)

  • hai inizito a suonare ieri per caso???

  • @francesco5813 Sorry, can you say that in English?

  • Would this work with ableton?

  • How to configure? I cant.. =X

  • does this also work with a keyboard or mandolin etc. ?

  • @chunkyfunkymonkeyguy I guess it would, but I can't guarantee a good sound quality. I guess mandolin should be fine

  • @leftpassenger and keys would be good too?

  • @chunkyfunkymonkeyguy Everything that produces sound via a (mono) jack output should work, I think.

  • Guitarlink works on windows 7?

  • @nunolf180 I suppose it does, since it only amplifies the sound coming from your guitar. You do need software to do something with it (like audacity or something else)

  • @leftpassenger are you french?

  • @HarryPotter3700 Nope, Dutch

  • @leftpassenger Ah, O.K...Just couldn't place the accent...

  • @HarryPotter3700 Yeah, sorry about that ^_^''

  • do you know if this works with native instruments' guitar rig 4 by any chance buddy?

  • @DanYul55 I think it does, but not sure. I use amplitube myself, but it's the same thing, right?

  • Comment removed

  • @leftpassenger oh okay then. Not sure what amplitude is, but if it uses ASIO as well then it's probably similar. Decided to order the Behrigner UCG102 instead so yeah.

  • I couldnt get real time audio from guitar, any suggestions please? im using ucg102

  • @SalmanSaeedCA which program are you using?

  • @leftpassenger program? :$ nah, I can record it using audacity, but can not hear it in real time.

  • @SalmanSaeedCA That's because you need a program to use it in real time, like amplitube or guitar rig.

  • @leftpassenger ok, I got it, thanks

  • @SalmanSaeedCA, See this video... (ww.w.youtu.be/4lewtS38RfI) ... you only need to change some settings in order to lower the latency.

  • @SalmanSaeedCA, See this video... (ww.w.youtu.be/4lewtS38RfI) ... you only need to change some settings in order to lower the latency. Remove the dots in ww.w

  • @rschua7 thanks dude.

  • @duffyasym If the problem is from your realtek it should be gone using another device since you won't be using your realtek at all when using the other device, unless you're routing it to playback through your realtek.

In the end, sound cards are garbage for recording and you ALWAYS will want to have an interface for recording, which is what this device if for. Were you using mic-in, btw? Mic-in is complete garbage for recording anything.

  • does this work with stomp boxes or effect pedals too?

  • @RatmTelecaster Yes and no, for example and overdrive/distortion or wah would work decently, but for all other effects it's better to use onboard effects on your pc

  • @duffyasym If you have a crackling sound in your audio because of your sound card, I recommend buying a new one, as the sound of the guitar link will suffer under it. If you can fix the problem, go ahead and buy the cable ;-) By the way, I am using the Alesis USB Guitar link, which is somewhat different than the Behringer one. Check the specifications of both products carefully and decide which one you need.

  • hey buddy just the sound i wanted to hear from it, i recently bought it and i am failing to get a nice sound out of the guitar into garage band, it just seems to have a lot of static and its not a good sound at all unfortunatlly, can u help me to get a better sound. Mainly the guitar input is too loud and whatever i do i get a horrible sound :/. Help!!

  • @JawgeGuitar You can turn down the input volume in the settings, that way it'll sound a lot better. And also like someone else mentioned, download guitar rig or amplitube 3 (which I use) and they offer a lot of sounds that are better than the ones that apple offers, check my DBZ movie theme video for a demo how those sounds sound ;-)

  • how do u get backing tracks playing while using the Aiso 4 thing cant use itunes because i think the guitar link and itunes use the same driver

  • @777colin Simply import a track in the program you are using to record and record your guitar on another track.

  • just a thought! is it possible to make one of those by just using an ordinary usb and a guitar jack? because I have lots of unused cables here

  • @althegreat17 You could try, in theory it's possible. The USB end serves a purpose as an amplifier, because it gets power from your USB port, so it's an interesting experiment. If you're gonna do it, please let me know ^^

  • Hi,

I have an iMac to which I'm looking at either this or the Behringer offering. Does this allow you to monitor the sound you play through the headphone socket on the iMac whilst using Garageband etc? The Behringer UCG102 does have a seperate headphone socket to allow you to monitor your playing whilst using the supplied software etc.

  • @Drpepper99uk You can monitor the sound with headphones and also with the internal speakers, since the device works via USB.

  • Is there any latency, will you hear what you play as you play it? I had a toneport, that broke so looking to replace it. The pod studio is £79. This comes with a version of guitar rig. Would this be just as good as a pod studio,to replace a toneport (both GX)? if yo uhave experience with either of them. As long as no latency, i think will be fine, expecailly for price, what do you think?

    hope this makes sense, thanks.

  • @tomvayne I'm pretty sure the POD is better if you want to record your guitar only with a USB interface. For decent recordings I use a microphone to record the sound of my amp, I only use this cable to record ideas. So, if you're looking for a cheap alternative to do quick recordings I recommend the Alesis cable, if you want good sound quality and zero latency, go for the POD.

  • Man it isn't pretty good for song recording doesn't it? I have a usb guitar link like the behringer's one but it sounds really shitty for now :s

  • @GusMOfficialChannel I kind of like my cable (which I demoed in the video) but there are some few practical hints that might make it a bit better. For starters, make sure your input level is not too high, I keep mine around 5% (not kidding). Furthermore, for a good distortion sound, don't use the distortion on one of the amp models, use the overdrive to dial in distortion, keep the distortion on the amp model low.

  • @renesebasgg Correct, the sound from the software will come from the speakers.

  • @renesebasgg You mean in the distortion parts? The first part I put it there on purpose: I recorded the sound of the strings with the microphone to show that there is a delay while playing, but I forgot to take out the audio of the strings in the second part ^^'' So the sound of the strings is actually sound from the video and not from the cable.

  • @renesebasgg Sure, but I already explained everything in the video ^^'' the cable functions as an amp, so your guitar sound gets amplified by the cable itself. Then the audio is sent to your computer, comparable to connecting a keyboard or even a midi controller to your PC. Then you will need software to process and/or record the sound. I myself use garageband (only on Mac OS X) but there are other programs too, like Amplitube 3 (which is completely free). I hope this helped.

  • wich one is better "this 1 or Behringer UCG102 Guitar-to-USB Interface "....? any idea..? and watz d reason for choosing that...? :)

  • @rootagepirates3 I don't own the Behringer device, but from the looks of it, it has a lot more functions than the Alesis USB cable, and maybe the price would be about the same too (Behringer's got some sharp prices). I actually like the Alesis one because it's just a cable, while the behringer one still needs an extra guitar cable and has another thing you have to put on your desk. I don't know much about the quality of it, though.

  • ok so honest opion

    was it work buyin??

  • @lilwillcool I think so, yes. it's great for inspiring moments to record what you had in mind. The sound quality is decent, but it isn't for recording your demo with your band, for example. But it's great to mess around with and especially very easy to use.

  • Does it work on computer or only for mac? Did you use computer in this video to record. LOL, sorry for asking many questions.

  • @EVH3m It works on both PC and Mac, and yes I used my Mac to record the audio. You can however use other programs than garageband to play/record with the USB cable, like amplitube.

  • I have another question, will the acoustic guitar tapping produce sound when i use this cable? How did you connect your electric guitar, did you use ampli? because i have pick up that does not have ampli.

  • Do you use pick up in this video? does it work on acoustic guitar, pls reply.

  • @EVH3m Yes, you do use pickups with this cable, or else you wouldn't get any sounds out of an electric guitar, right? The manual says it works with electric and acoustic guitar, but you will need a pickup on your acoustic too.

  • I can't get this sound without fuzz, is the problem my sound card?

  • @dipam7 It could be a lot of things: your soundcard, your guitar jack, your pick ups of your guitar, ..., Or the cable could have a bad connection. And you should also take into consideration that all amps have a small amount of buzz.

  • @leftpassenger yeah, but on my line 6 it doesn't make as many buzz as on my pc. Damn microsoft. wish I had a Mac :s It must be my soundcrad, thanks anyway!

  • Ive been using an audio interface up this point to input actual audio into my DAW. Other than that iv used a midi device (keyboard). Using this guitar link i struggling to get output- is is meant to just come straight form the macbook (thats what im using) speaker (or headphone jack) without any setup? Im not getting any output.

    Ok cheers

  • @FuturedaveyP You should check with audio preferences that audio input is set to "Generic Audio USB device". If that's okay, you should get sound either coming from your speakers or headphones.

  • @leftpassenger Hey lefty, cheers for your response- I'll check that out; i know studio one had audio detected a USB guitar link (cant recall the exact name it had picked up)- When i use my audio device i set this to input and be the output device also; with the USB guitar link i think it replaces the audio device therefore disables any inputs and outputs; hopefully there is a way to set this up so i can have both configured and in use at the same time. I hear some kirk hammet in your playing btw

  • @FuturedaveyP If I understood your comment correctly, you set the USB device as output device? Because that's impossible to do, you should set output device to your laptop speakers or your headphones.

  • @leftpassenger Well, thing is i didnt actually set it- i simply plugged in the usb into the macbook and when i went into the DAW it had changed the device to 'usb ..something or other' replacing the Presonus audio interface that i was using before that; hence the outputs of the presonus where then not available anymore, and i have no sound being outputted. The box were the usb guitar link shows up indicates its for input and output therefore indicates that no other output is an option.

  • @FuturedaveyP You can only use one USB interface at the same time, so you'll have to choose between your Presonus audio interface and the Alesis Guitarlink USB cable. Sorry, that's all I can give you ^^''

  • @leftpassenger The Presonus is firewire not usb- i presume though i can still only set one and use one at any one time, is that right? Otherwise, you reckon i should be getting audio from the macbook when using the guitar link? Cheers for your replies by the way, much appreciatted

  • @FuturedaveyP Probably that is the problem, yes. I hope you can get it to work out ^ ^''

  • Hey man I want to do a multi-track recording with garageband of a bass and a guitar at the same time. If I buy two usb cable adapters can I plug them both into my two ports and here them play simultaneously? itd be great if you could get back to me on that :)

  • @clanbigger4 I'm pretty sure you can't do that, simply because you have to select the source from where you want to record. The only way that might work is if you put a splitter on the jack end of the cable and plugged in with the guitar and bass in the same cable, but that wouldn't be optimal sound-wise, as you could probably guess.

  • @leftpassenger Alright thank you

  • @clanbigger4 You could try the Alesis LineLink Dual 1/4" to USB cable, but like leftpassenger said, idk if that'd be real good for the sound.

  • Question, thinking of buying this, would it record Bass as well?

  • @matt182martin Yes it can record bass too, no problem. But remember that if you have some hot pick ups in your bass, you might want to roll the volume down a bit ;-) There's a new video coming up with bass and 2 guitars playing with the cable, subscribe if you want to hear how it sounds! ;-)

  • @TheM3ta1Mi1itia My guess would be that you can, since the cable just sends your sound to your PC and amplifies it. I'm not a 100 % sure that it will work, but I think so.

  • can you record some examples when you use clean and distort sound to check out if theres sound like ground or something

  • no background noise ?

  • @eche101 No noise when playing clean, there is some noise when using distortion, just like you would have noise on a normal solid state amp when playing hi-gain. Check my newest video, it's using a very heavy distortion setting, but you can't hear noise while playing.

  • great vid! cud u tell me where u got the usb cable?

  • @GuitarGuyRocker I just got it at my local guitar shop.

  • i got the cable today and am using garageband too. but theres a little delay when you play, do you know if you can adjust it? or is the delay normal? its a bit anoying i think

  • @Elvinv Try to shut down as many programs as you can. There is a slight delay that pops up after playing for a while, but if you just reboot garageband the delay should be gone.

  • @leftpassenger great! thanx for the info, and may you have many more fun with the music :) best regards

  • @Elvinv I don't have a Mac, but for my windows software you can adjust the buffer rate / speed. That takes away the delay for me.

  • Great video! I am totally keen to get this piece of hardware because it's cheap and doesn't sound half bad (in this video, anyway).

Just a few questions.. does it work with 64-bit Windows 7? And is it compatible with ASIO4ALL? Thanks in advance.

  • @chaoticfables I know for a fact that it IS compatible with ASIO4ALL, but I have no idea if it works on Windows 7. I'll ask my friend if I can test it on his machine, he runs W7 64 bit. Just send me a private message so that I don't forget to get back to you. ;-)

  • @leftpassenger Thanks for your help. Nice playing btw! :D

  • Thanks to Youtube I can tell there will be a new generation of guitarists in the near future...better than ever.

  • @Guppy915 Gee, thanks! I kinda see myself as the average of the average, but I appreciate your compliment!

  • Where did you get the cable ?

  • @RitaArmstrongTV Just in my local music instruments shop. But you can find it on ebay if you want to.

  • @leftpassenger Ok, thank you (:

  • omg ur a lefty..... im a lefty too

  • @yopirate23 Actually, the video is just mirrored, because I recorded with my webcam ^^'' But I do am a lefty and I can play left handed guitars too :-P

  • @leftpassenger oh...

  • Does it work with an semi acoustic western guitar?

  • @erikland1 I suppose it would. As long as you can plug the cable in, it will work :-) If you are using Garageband you can turn on one of the clean amps and mess with the settings to get your clean sound. I don't really know how it would work on Windows, but I guess it would be the same.

  • when using overload's TH1...similar to guitar rig..it clips...so i try turning the input level down to the lowest level but it still clips!! if i turn it down anymore it goes to zero and i cant hear nothing. i mean whats the point of the alesis cable? Why i'm i getting such a clipping signal? i'm using asioforall...there's no input levels options.

to recap...the input volume has NO effect to signal when i slide it down until it mutes.

  • @bally28 Have you tried turning down the input volume on your main PC controls? Are you using a guitar with active pickups? Those things could all cause some trouble, I think. Maybe try and have a look at the control panel, if you are using Windows.

  • @leftpassenger thanks for helping mate, seriously i get same latency with guitar going straight in to laptop mic.

anyway dont have active pick ups,

the cable drivers input makes no difference.

I wouldn't not recommend this cable to anyone....best save your money and buy a proper interface!!!

  • @bally28 even the Behringer guitar link has a asio usb control panel to tweak the inputs n outputs. This thing uses shares the asio4all driver panel which is unnecessary....why doesn't it come with it's own? Really unprofessional cable...now i might as well use it as a dog lead.

  • can you use this to connect your amp to your computer?

  • @NCC2112 I suppose you could, but I wouldn't really see the point to do that. You could also use a simple jack cable for that, just plug it into your line in. Also note that this cable is an "amp" so I don't really know what that would do to your sound. If you want to record your sound of your amp, you're better of with a microphone. I use the Samson C3U USB microphone, which I will be reviewing very soon!

  • @leftpassenger thanks, i'll check out that mic.

  • @JDshowify Okay, glad you could fix it! Thanks for the kind words. :-)

  • @JDshowify What software do you run? If you are on Windows you probably need to install some drivers...

  • PLEASE HELP!!!

i got this exact cable and i have a macbook pro with garageband '09 but when i plug it in i cant hear any sound from my guitar why is this happening??

  • @3vannnn That's the problem I'm talking about around 0:45

You need to go to preferences in garageband, then to audio/MIDI. Then you can select audio output and audio input with to scroll down bars. Leave audio output like it is and change audio input to "Generic USB cable device". Next, check that your volume of the input isn't on 0%, and don't forget to check the volume on your guitar ;-)

  • @3vannnn. Also running GB '09 on a MacBook. Can't hear a darn thing. No guitar, no loops, nothing. I've tinkered with everything I could think of- System Preferences, Audio Midi Setup, Aggregrate Devices, etc. I've got the input set to C-Media USB Audio Device and the output set to Builti-in Ouput. Nothing has worked. I can't hear the guitar while I'm playing, and I can't hear any other tracks. It's as if plugging in the guitarlink mutes everything. Still hunting down a solution...

  • Thanks for video!

    What about signal/noise ratio?

  • @Matchugovsky When you play clean there is as good as no noise, but I think it will depend on the quality of your pickups. When you select a heavy setting with a lot of distortion, there's going to be noise, like there will be in real life. So it's quite okay ;-)

  • @osmancigil I haven't had the chance to compare to other USB devices, because I bought this for the easy recording option. I normally use a mic to record, because I've got a decent amp and I like that sound better.

But if you say you wish to buy it for the same reason, go for it! It's an amazing well working product, haven't had any trouble with it at all! Post a video if you get one, that way there's more material to compare ;-)

    Thanks for watching!

  • @osmancigil Still it's a very good product because of the simplicity for recording and other stuff. But if you're looking for something to practice with, I recommend a small practice amp.

  • @osmancigil If I were to estimate, I would say about 2 to 4 ms. But it all depends: When I was shooting this video, I was running other programs like Photobooth to record the video, so naturally there's going to be some latency.

If it's just garageband running there's no latency when playing clean, although when you play with distortion and start palm muting and picking very fast, the latency is bound to come up again. I already dedicated my 4 gigs of RAM to it, but it's no use.
