  • Awesome video!! I always though unplugging the phone when it was done is a must, and I always thought you had to prime a battery!

    thanks man liked n subb'd

  • Oh man, saved my brain some worries! You're great! Where do you live?

  • @aznDrgoonZ3 Glad to help! I'm in the US :]

  • Thanks for debunking theses myths ! I'm sick of my friend performing full discharges. It actually hurt the battery. One myth you could add, more directed at laptops users : pleaaaasse for the love of technologies, don't remove your battery when you're on the power cord.

  • Another tip for li-ion batteries. u must keep a small amount of energy inside the battery, no energy inside li-ion batteries ruins those so badly.

  • It's actually bad for your battery to drain it 0% al lot.

  • keep in mind the overcharge protection circuit needs to be there, cheap chinese batteries tend to not have them, hell i kno people who's chinese cellphone exploded while charging ...

  • Right but wrong too... It is very important to fully discharge your battery before charge so not to wear out portions of the battery, also tho incorrect 100% charges are software issues, the "Double Battery Charge" technique, is done to properly charge all cells in the lithium ION battery.

so... you do want to charge your phone completely and discharge completely ITS ACTUALLY VERY IMPORTANT!!! not just for better and longer battery life, but also better phone performance

  • So glad I subbed your channel! Really enjoy your vids!

Excellent content and info and it's obvious that you really care about the finished video.

Keep up the excellent work, man! It IS appreciated!

    peace

  • you know something about the macbook air batterie ? i like to have it conected to the charger all the time when im working at home, even if its fully charged ... i scared because i cant change it that easy :D

  • good stuff man, just subscribed =D

  • You really only need to calibrate a battery when you flash a new rom. Other than that, it should be good to go.

  • is it bad for your battery if you put in your phone when you have 30% left and take it out when it's 40%

  • @arnoutza Nope! That's just fine.

  • @arnoutza you can plug it in and unplug it as many times as you would like. it may not be good for the phone's port, but the battery will be fine.

  • thank you sooooooooooo much! hours saved, along with much guilt thinking i was breaking my devices. Nice performance from the nexus to.

  • Wow, I used to wake up quite early just to unplug my charging phone because I though it would wear the battery / overcharge. Thanks for clearing that up :)

  • @Pantiesonmyhead I think we have a deal.

  • High Five ohh i smashed my screen....

  • @RandomStuffSOS I owe you one. lol

  • I was wondering why the video quality wasn't too good...

  • what about the myth about unplugging your phone from your charger before it's fully charged?

  • @MrEugenexYew It doesn't harm your phone at all.

  • @marquesbrownlee are there any battery myths that are actually true??

  • @Avranius ... well then it wouldn't be a myth, would it?

  • 1: got an battery powered thingey for chrismas

2: discharge your device to 10% and leave it for night.it should be 0% for the morning

  • @TheDraver48 Why would you want to do that?

  • @marquesbrownlee owch,for calibrating these guys

  • @TheDraver48 Well... watch the video. ;]

  • You're extremely helpful! I've been waiting for someone to say that those batteries don't over charge. I'm sooooo subbing!!!

  • @iMaxieman I'm glad this helped - Thanks for subscribing!

  • Great Video!

  • 2:31 thumbs up? and he points down LOL

  • @qazwsxedcrfvg123 I think he meant thumbs up as in liking this video

  • @qazwsxedcrfvg123 ya cuz the thumbs up button is below the video...

  • @TheBeastFilipino dude, what ever the reason is (which is obvious), it is just funny body language that he **points down** saying 'thumbs up'.

  • Thanks for the info! I knew some of this but you put it all succinctly! Very well done. I forwarded this video to several friends. TY again.

  • nice

  • Why don't we have LiPo batteries on phones

  • Thanks man. Hive five!

  • Comment removed

  • i thought all of these were true... thank you!

  • so if i charge my IPod when it doesn't have 100% battery i'm not actually damaging the battery ? or in danger of burning it out ? thanks for the video btw :]

  • @boiiazz That is correct!

  • I was getting ready for some serious high fiving there:( no worries I'll give you a thumbs up:)

  • This kid goes BEAST MODE on his gadget videos. Best on the interwebz.

  • My phone battery is lithium ion and when its fully charged it tells my to unplug the charger, If it is a myth, why does it tell me to unplug it?

  • Very informative video man thanks!! but i still don't get why my laptops battery is DEAD.. i mean as soon as i unplug the charger, my laptop shuts down! And i always thought its because i almost never use it with the battery, its always plugged in, can you tell me more about this problem?

  • helpful. thnks

  • I broke my monitor high fiving you... You totally owe me a new one.

  • @xtremegamer4696 I didn't mean it, I swear! Haha

  • Marques, when will we be seeing a Galaxy Nexus Review video?

  • @samueljakeoneill Very soon! Stay tuned for that :]

  • Duncann333 said that the calibration was true

  • IM GOING TO FORCE MY MOM TO WATCH THIS!

  • u earned a new subscriber

  • I tried giving you a high five but now you owe me a new computer monitor.

    :D

  • very good indeed

  • Can you explain why the performance of the battery diminishes the more times that it is charged?

  • Thanks for these very useful mythbusters. I'll let others know to watch this vid and thumbs up/sub to you.

    YOU'RE THE BEST BRO!

  • TIP: Get some more things surrounding you when you talk. It looks empty. Other than that...I love your videos. You're doing great.

  • @jacobheifetzlicht Well, I agree with this, but if he put to much extra in the background, then a lot of people would be distracted by that. And I think the point is to have the focus on him :)

  • @supertouch101 He normally has a microwave in the background and because of the shutter speed on the camera it looks like the lights on it flicker, and it sometimes distracts me. I am just fascinated by how the shutter speed captures things like that.

  • Great video + you're so cute!!

  • Dude, this was the most informative video ever lol great job!

  • if u have a mac, can u please do a "whats on my dock" video(s)..i just got my mac 2 months ago..im used to it but i really need some useful tools/software etc.. the title explains it all, but most people stopped making these videos for some reason and the programs in the video are either outdated or not free anymore. i hope u have time making these videos, thanks for the info on this video though, its really helpful :)

  • The outro is amazing. How'd you do it?

  • @ShakeAndBakeGuy Thanks! That was created with Adobe After Effects.

  • Awesome video man.

  • 1001 liker !

  • @btakaz6 Amazing!!

  • I just calibrated my phone when I was watching this video! Haha. Thanks so much Marques! This video really helped me!

  • the dislike button is like a ninja, you cant see it, you just know its there.

  • "this whole video was recorded with a samsung galaxy nexus"

o_o i'ma try out my nexus camera more now....

  • nice......thanks for the info. :)

  • does this count on other stuff, like a 3ds? etc

  • @PatrickWillShowYou This applies to everything that uses a lithium ion battery, including the 3DS!

  • @marquesbrownlee What's the outro song?

  • How do u pause while recording?

  • Well researched and good quality video, subscribed.

  • That sure helped me about charging my phone, though ill admit i never thought that charging after 100% can cause overcharging and I always kept it charged xD still, Thanks. Subscribed. :)

  • Really really helpful ... I just showed it to my sister and she insisted me on thanking you for it . She got rid from all the wrong believes that she had. Thanx bro ...

  • guys, if you want to watch realy good teck reviews, subscribe to gadget university now!

  • Is iPhone also using lithium ion battery?

  • @AbsoluteMi yes

  • @AbsoluteMi Yep every iPhone uses Lithium ion batteries.

  • in the olden days there was only Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) and Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-Mh)

Ni-Cd batteries have a very poor energy retention and very low capacity. the Ni-Mh was to address the low capacity and the retention. until the newer one like sanyo's eneloop or gp's recyko batteries have an even better energy retention which is even better.

  • been telling to all my douche friends about it and they don't fuckin believe it. your video show that it is the true fact. great job!

  • Wow, I've actually been wondering about the 2nd and 3rd myths today! Really helpful video, Marques :)

  • Thx a lot , got a new phone and have been worrying :) Worries now put to rest :D

  • Hey i sent u frnd request in facebook plz accept it.....

    My name is Awais Yousaf.

  • Nice, detailed review!! Man, I really believed the first one ever since I got my first iPod!! The second one, I noticed it this year when I left my iPad to overcharge through out the night and realized that the power adapter wasn't flaring with heat which it does when it is charging :)

  • I ought to say, that my HTC Desire HD (MIUI ROM) has to be calibrated from time to time. The other day I managed to have 1% for 3 hours, make 6 phone calls and text 10 times. My friends were quite impressed indeed x)

  • I'm showing this to my man. He still thinks all of those things. Thanks for dispelling the myths!

  • Great video Mark! Greetings from Norway!

  • Comment removed

  • Is the music at the end deadmau5? do you own a copyright licence or something if it is?

  • Thanks for this video! Now I don't feel like I'm ruining my iPod if I overcharge it. =D

  • Subscribed brother!

  • nice android widget figure in the backround :)

  • The little buggers are effectively liquid metal fire under pressure, and it's not a good idea to let it out. YouTube is a good source for videos of the consequences.

  • Great video, Marquez. I have always wondered why, when charging my phone, it fluctuates between 100% and 97 or 98%. Thanks for clearing that up. Glad to know there's nothing wrong with my dock or my charging port.

I've actually heard it said that excessive "calibrating" or "power cycling" can accelerate degradation in Li-ion batteries, though I can't confirm this.

  • I slapped my iPod screen.

  • Hi five broh

  • VERY USEFUL INFORMATION THAT DEBUNKED ALL THOSE "BATTERY MYTHS" !

  • you are allright

  • Can you explain why the performance of the battery diminishes the more times that it is charged?

  • This info will come in handy :) Happy holidays.

  • awesome video man!

  • I actually followed that overcharging myth !!!! Thanks man you are awesome !

  • Nice video

  • well thank you sir. i will now be a bit more relaxed when it comes to my battery ;)

btw i'm rocking my Galaxy Nexus on Verizon !

  • Very interesting, i havn't really heard of these myths before, but its good to know that they are just myths and aren't true :D

  • Awesome information and Great quality video, Thanks for the information.

  • :D nice myths, thx for info

  • Informative, thanks! :>

  • Thank goodness, now I can leave my phone charging for weeks with a clear conscience.

  • I'm so glad that you uncovered the myth about leaving in chargers. Thank you so much :)

  • @thetechnoexpert

yeah i always do that and sometimes worry about my stuff :-P

  • @thetechnoexpert However, it still does use energy as long as it is plugged into the wall so if you want to be environment conscious , you can still unplug the charger from the wall.

  • Thx for the help. Happy new year

  • Good vid... one thing I have noticed with laptop batteries is if you never let them go dead or always leave them plugged in the life seems to be greatly diminished. I have heard you should run them dead once a week or so. Thoughts?

  • Terrific video, Marques! I feel a lot better about the Galaxy Nexus after your last few videos. Thank you! I wonder if playing around with lighting will make the shot look better. Also, a question: is the sound also from the Galaxy Nexus? Or is it from the mic beside you?

  • I tried to high five, needless to say, I have a smudge on the screen lol

  • Thanks! Always, stupidly, thought of these as facts instead of myths :p

  • Really informative even though I never believed any of the myths myself.

  • Hey Marques, #2 explains why sometimes I wake up and my iPhone says 97-99% charged when I left it charging all night.

  • For all the battery info you could possibly want, a site I've referred to for many years, check out batteryuniversitydotcom.

Thanks for your help in dispelling these myths. I wish people would just do some research and these myths would finally die.

  • @marquesbrownlee PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO ME!!

  • @Marquesbrownlee this video is awesome! I'm glad I subscribed to you

  • Good quality video subscribed.

  • @Miseslibertarian Thanks!

  • So are most laptops lithium ion? And if so, why does their charge deplete?

  • @honson7 Yep pretty much every laptop is lithium ion. Batteries get old and suffer from the same wear and tear as any other heardware. There is no magical healing process to return it to the life you got when it was new.

  • helpful,subscribed

  • @WOWREALLY9 Awesome, thanks!

  • Thank you so much!

  • @TrueReload14 You are welcome :]

  • @marquesbrownlee Definitely subscribing!

  • thanks. I subscribed

  • @jugglerdan2 Thank YOU! :D

  • I used to laugh at my brother when he unplug his laptop every time it's fully recharged. Now I can laugh at him knowing I'm %100 right. Hell to the yes!!!

Thank you Marques, very helpful as always. Keep on brickin'.

  • @hellknighter You win, sir! Haha thanks for viewing :]

  • Subbed! thanks this is a great video!

  • @som1young Thanks for subscribing!

  • IDK what happen, but I left my phone charging over night and when I woke up, my phone was under my pillow. It was super hot it was like overheated to the max. And now, when I try to charge my phone it says its charging but the phone doesnt turn on. Help please. :D

  • @tasigogue Yeah you don't want to put a charging device under your pillow. That's going to basically leave the heat nowhere to escape lol. Take the battery out and let it cool down!

  • @tasigogue The battery overheat, And this lets the battery without really charging, like it dont saves the energy but us actually connected, so yeah, you got to buy another battery, no way to solve that with a trick or something

  • @RaphaniacZX Oo, I seee. Thank youuu :D

  • Thanks! I was really worried about my battery life bexause I never calibrate my battery :P

  • @RaphaniacZX Yeah you'll be fine lol

  • Thanks! Im subbed

  • @mattnanokid Thank YOU! :]

  • I like the Android guy in the background.

  • @crawford714 Gotta love it lol

  • But my old lithium battery Sony Ericsson battery nearly exploded from over charging?

  • @graphicgiraffe You sure you don't mean over heating!

  • @marquesbrownlee No it was because of damaged connectors which didn't cut it short which caused it to over charge, sadly.

  • Thanks for this video! Helps a lot. :)

  • @RedoneTech2 Glad it helped ya :]

  • Thanks for the tips !!! Just Subb'd ! :D

  • @stationdesmith1234 Thanks for subscribing!

  • Nice video. Lamarr sent me :)

  • @GodSubscriber This I must rewatch lol

  • Hey Marque! Can you make a video explaining why android is better than iPhone or the other way around because my 2 year contract ends in 5 weeks and I want to know which smartphone to get. Please!

  • @Instinct869 That would be really hard to explain lol but I can do my best in a video :]
