  • Now how the hell is the lightning move upwards and around to its location.. Why didn't the surge just go straight to it.. Spooky aha

  • thats insane!

  • Wauw! Awesome(:

  • it's a pity electricity cannot be made of this

  • @Zhmenka thats pure electricity, konju

  • i blinked and missed it

  • And that is why i do not go in tall building during a thunderstorm.

  • nice music in the car :D

  • I am doing some research on electricity. With my novice mind, I have observed electricity must have something to connect to if is to travel.A Tesla coil sparks out but is totally uncontrollable. This lightening bolt makes it clear the energy can be directed but must have an end point. hmmm...

  • @NinjightNationCorp

It's very simple, electricity covers the least resistive path (e.g. a tall lightning conductor). Nature is highly efficient.

  • Are lightning suicides common in Chicago?

  • Like inside a bulb.

  • God wanted to touch Chicago and HE was shocked by her beauty.

  • 避雷針凄すぎww

  • Ahhh I love Chicago !

  • Lightning is created when god is angry!!

  • @UTube4588 Then he must be angry at Chicago!

  • @UTube4588 nope.avi

  • COOOOOOOLL!!!

  • KEWL!

  • Wahoo! Picachuuuuuu just owned Chicago!

  • very impressive!

  • good music :D not lady gaga!!!

  • Damn nature you scary

  • is that lightnin strike drunk it misses and then turn back and hits top

  • i wonder if the sears tower's rods send the lightning to a power container :) thats what id do. one lightning bolt could power the city of new york for about 5/8 seconds...honestly thats alot of voltage LOL

  • stupid lighting always wants to hit from top

  • and thats where derrick rose came from

  • this is probably the best example showing why those rods are there.

  • Pause it at 0:01 and look how cool it is

  • wow

  • thats wicked brooooooo

  • Lightning rods were actually bunny ears

  • Like a giant taser in reverse!

  • Illani1000: Actually, the tower more than likely has a lightning rod , beginning at that point at the top, and, through a long cable or cord, directing the electricity to the ground. This is used to prevent electrical equipment inside from messing up, and also to prevent fires. Benjamin Franklin invented this device.

  • Zeus hates Sears.

  • I bet the Sears Tower is ALL too familiar with this

  • Pretty amazing. You get hit by that it takes less than a second to kill you.

  • PIKACHU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @invertigo9867 No.Zekrom!:)

  • i love living in Chicago :]

i bet every light in there went full blast, like everyone was like "im blind!!"

  • Wow this is really well done how you slowed it down frame by frame :)

  • Awesome!

  • Incredible lightning strike on the Willits!

  • They get electricity for free for a week haha

  • Looks like the lightning gets "hurt" when it strikes the tower, so It gets brighter as a "shriek" of pain XD

  • damn this are the best 31 seconds of a video in my life

    thanks!! ^_^

  • thats pretty badass. ive never actually seen lightning strike twice espesially with it still striking from the last one lol

  • i once saw a lightning bolt in LBI and me and my mom said it looked like a head. it did! (so freaky)

  • @pop5princess thats alien

  • @MegaFighterful alien? whats that...is it like a kind of lightning

  • @MegaFighterful watch spielbergs tom cruis move war of wordl aliens come to earth by lightning

  • whoa what is with the horizontal lighting strike? I've never seen anything like that before.

  • those antennas on the Sears Tower Are Lighting Rods they conduct electricity from the lightning and attempts to carry the electricity away from the tower and into the ground no harm done =)

  • coolieo! we went to chicago for a trip but it wasnt raining that hard...coolieo!!

  • that looked kinda like spidermans web xD

  • This looks like Rocket Lightning= One channel flashes up while the other channel flashes across the sky. Making it hard to take a picture of.

  • are those things on top of the building supposed to get hit by lighting or what?

  • @hellkosu yes ,there ligtning rods

  • Chicago is not just the windy city!

Lightning does strike the Sear Tower a lot

  • @hexdrill God had nothing to do with it. Sorry

  • What happens tp the building?

  • @420Hemlock Those metal things at the top of the tower are lightning rods, they conduct the electricity from the lightning and attempts to carry the harmful electrical current away from the building and safely to ground. Therefore, nothing happens to it : )

  • easy and free way to electricity

  • ITS ALIVE!!!

    sorry couldnt resist

  • amazing!

  • i just love watching lightning strike something its just so cool so cool indeed...

  • i know itas so cool and the coller part is it looks huge but the bolt itself is no bigger then the width of a pen

  • i guess that kills the "lightning never strikes the same place twice" theory. :) it will find the fastest way to the ground, which is naturally a tall building.

  • ya, the space needle gets hit over and over again. It is not a "shocking" thing to see here. LOL LOL

  • @mdknutson LOL.

  • @mdknutson the space needle is in seattle... that there is America's tallest building, the sears tower (recently renamed willis)

  • yah he has the master lightning switch lol

  • WOW O.O'

  • wow great footage!

  • i lived in Chicago back in the '80's.. the incredible storms we experienced! It was WONDERFUL!!

  • well they did an experiment in space with a satellites and a 13 mile cable cuz of our earths magnetism just outside of our atmosphere the cable was being charged with electricity and took soo much in the cable snapped so they are trying to figure out how to use that much electricity to power things it will save so much money

  • They're lucky they have lightning rods on the sears tower

  • lol

  • wow, for frame by frame, the lightining stayed attached for a long time! good thing they invented those pole to set the lightning off or else i think the sears tower would be on fire.

  • the Sears gets hit a lot, doesn't it?

  • we have good bolts out our way. they only hit the ground though. that was a pretty good bolt

  • Yeah, this happens alot during storms. I've seen the sears tower hit twice during the same storm, I think it happens about 50 times a year.Always cool though

  • we are surrounded by electricity why do we have to pay for it ????????

  • what music are you listening to in the car?

  • a Mozart piano concerto, perhaps #20 or #25.

Unable to do better from the brief sound fragment.

  • @sfpiv HAHA. dude u sound so sophisticated.

  • @eecuk ya it TOTALLY fits the scene :P

  • Every time someone puts a stupid comment on youtube, there is a bolt of lightning somewhere in the world. Arrrgh!

  • LOL people have made small thunders by dumpings liquid nitrogen on really hot watter and it makes the loud boom noice

  • dude thunder is caused by air being separated by the head or something like that as for lighthing i got no clue

  • @Armin600

Lightning is created from the kinetic energy of darwin spinning in his grave.

  • @threedninja hahahahah. so right!

  • Still don't know what causes thunder and lightning??

A difference in potential between the Cloud and teh gound, whcih cause electricity to flow between to remove the potential difference, lighting up whatever is in the air as it goes, that what causes Lightning.

  • wow you can tell its a good conductor if it makes the lightng curve like that

  • NICE!!!

  • tralalalala gonna go hit the ground OO a nice anttena!

  • you know people.. A month ago, I had a dream that i was on TOP of the sears tower. Meaning wear the antennas are. I was standing where the antennas would connect to the building. and it was a THUNDERSTORM. And lightning struck the rode just like this. IMAGINE HOW SCARED I WAS IN MY DREAM TO BE ON TOP LIKE THAT AT NIGHT IN A THUNDERSTORM. but then I jumped off after that but i landed ok and stuff lol coz it was a dream so i didnt die in my dream.. but just imagine having that dream.

  • lol, i might put some batteries in series with that bolt! hahaha, all of a sudden the whole city lights up because the power grid is fed off lightning. 8)

  • tesla did a process that did harness this natural energy! isnt it amazing 100 years ago nikola tesla harnessed this power for world wide wirless power transfer using his specialized tesla coils. i put up videos of how the large tower works check it out , power and internet for everyone 100 years ago.

  • if u wonderin why the bulding had little towers on top of them i know and i dont live there ok ill tell every kind of building like that has thos things and there called lightning rods they keep the lightning from hitting the building

  • This lightning was bigger then the Tower , wawa wiwa !!

  • An incredible shot of lightning. I enjoyed this alot. Thank you for posting this.

  • This video shows several neat things about lightning.

It is dimmer, then brighter, then dimmer again.

It is firstly seeking a path, then it discharges most of it, then tapers off.

Another amazing thing is that once a discharge path has been found & connected to, lightning from other directions may intersect the main bolt to discharge as well.

One discharge may act as a magnet, if you will, for other bolts nearby.

  • KOOL NICE SHOT!!

  • I wish I lived in Chicago

    i'm 15, when I'm 18 ill move there

  • Good for you. =]

Always happy to have more people move here. Chicago's a great place, a nice city with fun people. You'll love it.

  • you should move here haha it's the best city ever

    you'll love it

    everyone does.

    lol

  • OMG!

  • thats amazing
