  • no salt?

  • Love your video's. Just an FYI, check out the dangers of Canola Oil. Not something you want to have in your food. House hold pest control yes, but definitely not for cooking.

  • I could live off granola

  • I'm making another batch tonight to take to a sick friend. Good snack for him.

  • instead of me buying granola already made which are expensive I can make my own and it will last me for a long while. great job!!! on this video

  • I made this tonight and it turned out great! Thanks for sharing! This was totally awsome. I buy my oats in 50lb bags so now I can make batches of this stuff and put it in my freezer to have on hand.

  • BigFatBetty,

    Let us know!

    Rita

  • Oh my gosh if I don't land a man after this nothing will

  • Trying different sweeteners is good - that's what makes us all unique cooks. I've made granolas with honey and even agave syrup.

  • This looks delicious!

  • Would it not be better abd healthier to use honey instead of the maple syrup? Im new to health foods but that is what I thought I had read somewhere. Honey is the best form of sweetener as I recall. Am I wrong? Would it also be better to use olive oil rather than vegetable oil or is there a reason this wouldn't work?

  • you said to add canola oil however; did i miss you putting it in? I just wanted to make sure that i am supposed to add oil to the syrup.

  • Can't wait to try this granola recipe, can i add pure maple sugar instead of maple syrup?

  • @robsrelics1 Sorry I'm so late in replying. Try melting the sugar in 1/3 cup warm water and substitute that for the maple syrup. ~Rita from AboutEating com

  • @RecipeCook Thanks Rita, Rob

  • I'm having to make my own granola too, I can't put up with people putting raisins in cereals anymore.

  • If i wanted to make chocolate chip granola, how would i do it? Its granola with chocolate chips, but when i look at the type i've been eating, it looks like the chocolate is slightly melted.

  • @Hunterjumpereventer

Maybe you can get a chocolat bar and grate it. then you have little small pieces of it, put you can stil taste it.

  • Is this a granola cereal recipe? Can I put this in a bowl and add milk or soy milk?

    Thank you.

  • @Georgie1954 Yes, you can use it as a cereal. And some people like to put coconut in the oat mixture before or after baking. A handful or two is good. If you put the coconut in before baking, it gets nice and toasty; if after baking, it stays more moist.

  • Wheat germ doesn't have any Vitamin E in it....wheat germ oil on the other hand is probably the best source of it.

  • Great recipe and so healthy. Thank you!

  • granola:ne pariez jamais que vous n'en mangerais qu'un :p !!

  • I didnt quite understand 1 little thing, can you sudstitute cocanut for the fruit or do you add it with the fruit?

If it is for a substitute it how much do you add?

    Love the video!!

  • @Orkneygal0100 You can do either, depends on what you like. Rita at AboutEating.c

  • @RecipeCook Thanks!!! I am Defanetly gonna try this! ;)

  • Can't wait to try this; wonderful video, thank you! :)

  • I cooked this today...it is soooo good. thanks for the recipe!!!

  • Thanks.

  • I'm going to try this. I find that most of the ones in the shop have raisins in and I dislike raisins and never really thought of making my own. Thanks! :)

  • Yes, you can. I am actually eating a big bowl of granola with mel(honey) .

Cheers from the island of Florianopolis. Brasil

  • "full of in-complete proteins =)"

  • can i use honey instead of syrup?

  • Thank you for this. You are awsome I really appreciate you and all you do.

  • I just made this and burnt my tongue tasting it right out of the oven! Its delicious! this was super easy to make! THANKS

  • how can I make my own pickling spice mixture rather than buy it from the store? I can a lot of pickles.

  • vinegar or natural fermented?

  • Really nice videos, thank you!

  • Wow I just discovered your videos Rita and I love all the tips you add to them! There's always some surprises everytime I try a recipe. You do try to cover it all! Sticky fruit chopping, why we put fruits after. Finally someone who cares about the people who try these recipes. Thank you so much!

  • How nice of you to say. You made my day! We'll be putting together more videos this week, so keep an eye out - and if you're interested, stop by my web site and sign up for the newsletter. ~Rita

  • I made this and it's delicious

  • Wonderful! Thank you so much for letting us know.~ Rita

  • this looks really good. Going to try it out.

  • Please don't use canola oil. It's more and more genetically engineered, and thus no good for you.

  • Why does that make it "not good" for you?

  • I thought that my stating that canola oil is genetically engineered, or a form of frankenfood, would be a good enough explanation as to why it is not good for you. Since you seem to lack information on the subject, just look for various YouTube videos on the subject of Monsanto, or under the title "The Future of Food," and you will get a sense of the problem.

  • I'm not scared off by buzzwords. However, it seems you would rather not explain why "Franken-oil" is bad for you.

Could you explain, then, why net loss of minerals in soil - which organic farming causes - is a good thing?

And if climate change will have a negative impact on crops, wouldn't certain traits be beneficial to mankind?

  • Food that grows in nature is healthier than food created in a lab, duh!

  • blintz69, What kind of food is grown in a lab?

  • Net loss of mineral oils in soil, due to organis farming? Haha, wow that's classic.

Even if this is true, I doubt the effects of a loss in mineral oils is as devastating as nitrogen runoff, pesticides, cash crops and patent seeds.

And sure, maybe some crops may be resistant to climate change due to their engineered DNA, but soon as disease strikes, if all the genes of the plants are the same there's a nearly 100% loss of food.

Please, learn more on the subject before you go yapping about it.

  • Thank you Rita! I can't wait until I make it. I may never go back to store bought again.

  • I agree! I use Madagascar pure ground vanilla in mine with the dry ingredients. It is awesome!

  • great recipe. very informative and easy to follow directions. if i could rate this 6 stars i would.

  • i heard u is best not to heat the nuts and seed

  • Thank You Mam

I've always wanted to make granolas

  • I just made one today I used old fashioned oatmeal, almonds, walnuts, pecans, shredded coconut.- for the coat I used butter and honey.- fruit dried red cherries.- Its great.---

  • I just made some with 8 cups quick oats olive oil honey maple syrup raisin dates almonds pecans water just put it all in the bowl mixed it up and then cooked for 1 hour and mixed every 15 min. The nuts and fruit were all soft after cooking. The amounts are not that critical. The results were great. Soft like a granola bar but loose

  • QUESTION.

The ingridients I dislike are the canola oil and syrup. Can the granola be made without them ? any alternatives to roll the oats without oils?

  • Hey, my boyfriend and I just made this! We quadrupled the recipe and added organic shredded coconut, flax seeds, chia seeds, organic shredded almonds, organic Pure Brown Rice Syrup, organic canola oil, and organic dried cranberries and rasperries! WOW!

We really enjoyed your cooking show :) Keep em coming!

  • I'm so glad you liked it. Granola is totally 'customizable' and you made some great additions! ~Rita

  • I'm wanting to try Granola and Yogurt as a healthy breakfast meal. However, my question is that I have a whole box of Grape Nuts cereal and I was wondering if I could somehow use it to make granola?

  • Hi, If it's the cereal flakes you could substitute some of those for the oats but they make bake a bit quicker, so adjust your baking time. If they're the hard little Grape nuts, stir those in when you add the fruit, after everything is baked and cooled. Let me know how it turns out! ~Rita

  • awesome!

  • Whats its storage life?

  • You can plan on 2 weeks in a pantry away from heat; 1 month in frig; 3 months in

    freezer. ~R

  • Would this recipe keep well in a hand-thrown pottery container with lid or would I need to place it inside a bag then put the bagged oats into the containers? I'm thinking of this as Christmas gifts for our family. I make pottery on the wheel although I don't have a kiln so I'd have to get my prof. to fire it in his kiln.

  • I would put it in a freezer proof baggie and then put them into the pottery. That way, no moisture/air will get to the granola and it will stay really fresh for quite a while. Lucky them to get that nice "gift from the heart" from you!

    Rita

  • Thanks so much for the info. It helps tremendously. Hand-thrown pottery isn't Tupperware. No two pieces are truly the same even when throwing the same piece over & over to improve replication. Even with corks, I don't think I could seal inside so baggies will work perfectly. Wow, now I feel as if I've made a dent in Christmas gift ideas. This will be a nice change - something IN the pottery... Thx again. I really appreciate it. :)

  • Paysney, thanks for the info, I am a strong man.

She outta use an electric device in the kitchen, but it is your duty to tell her.

Realy, I did not deserve at this low, when I came into the US I have worked my years as a ladies garment worker.

  • Great!!!!

  • what a great place to come to thank you

  • nice job, thanks
