  • If i can get you to smile before i leave...

  • YEAH!!!!

  • This is at Central Park. I've got a still shot of it that has hung on my office wall everywhere I've worked since. On the back of the frame the photographer wrote June 12, 1982 - Central Park. Now it could be that they wore the same clothes to perform at Battery Park later.

Bruce had not been on the bill. When the NYT coverage the next day went with a headline about the size of the crowd, an acquaintance of mine said the correct headline was "Springsteen plays Central Park."

  • I do remember that bruce did play at the central park No Nukes for sure.

  • at least these musicians are DOING something- working for change, raising awareness for a cause they believe in-safe energy. And in their 60's and 70's today they are STILL making a bigger difference than the people arguing on the internet.

  • I was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is from "No Nukes" Battery Park

  • Still gives me the chills. The Boss is great, but Jackson Browne is a saint.

  • Who gives a shit! This song ROCKS!!!! Instead of back in 69 I was 21.. It's

Back in '09 I was 21!!!!! Love this song, love living my life listening to these type of tunes that never get old.. I blast this at school! Rock on Bruce and Mr.Browne!!

  • WOW Regan Must 've Really Had seconds thoughts after this concert LOL!!! Sarcasm.!!!

I'm sorry but people were so naive back then!!!

Nobody wanted a nuclear war (LEFT OR RIGHT) but we beat them (the Commies) by outspending them

  • The (Communist) Soviets famously used to refer to American leftists as "useful idiots." Why?

  • love this song

  • lol this isn't a political discussion just watch the video please?

  • I love both these guys.

Jackson Browne should have let Bruce Springsteen sing at least a verse. The Boss was mere back up here.

The other version Bruchee has posted is later and more raw but Browne split the verses a bit with Springsteen there.

  • that's so awesome

  • If you find a good way to safely put all that nuke waste I will advocate for nukes. $4 a gallon is still cheap compared to other countries. I think it should be $6. For me there is not such thing is winning a war. It is always a loss. USA doesn't care about other nations. It promised countries to help them out of a "communist hell" but left them all hanging.

  • It's all about the oil. What do you think got us into this mess in the Middle East? It's ironic that the US watches the Russian invasion of Georgia, the genocides in Darfur, the war in Somalia and on and on, and we sit back and wait to attack someone else we can bully. What about North Korea, Iran, Palestine etc? This war with Iraq is about oil. Rumsfeld and Cheney diverted our military resources to Iraq and today we are watching the insurgents gain strength in Afghanistan.

  • suicidalstan said, "This war with Iraq is about oil."

Really? How so? Explain how the U.S. has benefited, oil-wise, by invading Iraq. Be specific in your answer.

  • Comment removed

  • Beyond freeing supplies to capitalist investment, they blocked a hostile force in the Middle East. Should the US allow Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan to gain enough power and military capability to challenge American international hegemonic legitimacy then they could severely block oil supply. That being said, with one less hostile force in the oil rich Middle East, the US has benefited, oil-wise. first year political science, pick up a book.

  • Nice try, but I respecfully disagree with your premise that alleged American hegemony (I'm surprised you didn't use "imperialism") was the goal. Of all the countries the U.S. has fought in, liberated and defended in its history, we have NEVER permanently occupied a single one. You ascribe nefarious motives where none exist.

That said, removing madmen who could threaten the GLOBAL oil supply helps the civilized world, not just the U.S. In that sense, I suppose that would be a "benefit."

  • Having said that, America fought in Vietnam in the 60s & 70s, and they had no oil. It fought in Bosnia in the 90s, which had no oil. Ditto Grenada, Panama, Korea, and handfuls of others over the years.

Since the early 90s, American has imported ~2% of its oil annually from Iraq. For several years during the Clinton admin., we imported zero due to sanctions in place. We simply got a little more from other countries to compensate. We didn't go there to secure or steal their pittance of oil.

  • You're correct re the importance of Middle East oil, but not for the reasons you think.

America doesn't challenge the nutbags over there to secure or steal their oil -- we do it because they use oil to fund their terror and aggression. Hussein built his WMD with oil profits, and Iran is attempting the same. So yes, in that sense it's "about oil," but only because oil enables some evil people to fund evil deeds.

We get more oil from Canada from anywhere else but haven't attacked them.

  • @Ken5244 What WMD? They didn't find any.....last time he was trying to build one the Israelis just bombed it....

  • kelborn 24 said, " ... last time he was trying to build one the Israelis just bombed it...."

Huh? The incident you're referring to was a secretive Syrian nuclear reactor, not an Iraqi one. It was being built with the illegal assistance of N. Korea (in direct violation of international laws against nuclear proliferation). The Israelis (or us?) detected it via satellite and then took it out. Thank God they had the spine to do so.

  • Addendum: I just realized you may have been referring to the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osirak that the Israeli's bombed back in 1981. If so, you were correct about the incident (although that was a long time ago). Nevertheless, the Hussein regime produced a lot of WMD besides their failed attempt to create a nuclear bomb.

  • howd guys get into talking about oil? damn just listen to the song and comment on the song.

  • @macilak Why the hell "should" it be $6? You're saying it's cheap, COMPARED to other countries, other countries are just really expensive too, just more expensive, but a lot of that comes from extra taxes.

  • Wow! What an awesome performance!

  • And what a stupid political cause, as was so often the case in those years.

  • And what is so stupid about it?

  • What? This is about disarmement. The US actually cut down on nuclear weapons development hoping that the russians would follow their lead - it obviously was't the case.

The anti-nuclear side of things made sense at the time, as there was a partial meltdown of a reactor in america. It's been found there hasn't been any health effects though.

The oil industry basically controls America. It's well known you can run cars off of other fuels, but the oil businesses want their business.

  • your an idiot, why you watch it prick

  • rk4424...actually commies keep them exiled if they speak out. Libtard? Man is that the best you got little man? Please define patriotism for the rest of us...help me out. Bet you won't or can't..but TRY. I'll wait.

  • If you really think that the U.S. Govt. cares about any of its own people much less some other countries people you need to get a clue. The sanity inspector needs to inspect his or her brain.

  • wow, what a great video, always fun seeing JB dancing!!!

  • matter of fact...I think that is Wendy Wachtel behind Linda with the long black hair...a legendary background singer and Waddy's sister...

  • she comes in at about 2:40...Waddy is dying through the whole song...'cause you know he wants to play...one of the most underrated guitarist's ever...

  • East meets West! And what is created is the best!

  • the kick by both at 3:42 is what R&R is all about...great vid!

  • Linda Ronstadt is there at the end too...not singing vocals?

  • Where's Linda in the video?

  • look to the left at the end...Waddy is there for the whole song...Linda has a white shirt and Blue something...

  • heh...Waddy Wachtel is there...and not playing?...47 seconds in Stage left?....jesus...he would have rocked this out!

  • I remember in the mid 70's when there was...I think an Earth Day event at the Meadowlands...all the California musicians had no idea who Bruce was...so Bonnie Raitt thinks she's been boo'd...Jackson...James...same thing..finally they realize the Jersey/Philly crowd was screaming "Bruce"...not "Boo"...then he came on with the E-Street and showed them what was happening out East here!

  • Jackson Brown and the Boss..damn, what a combo!!

  • What an effin show that must have been!

  • In 1975 I left Ireland for Tucson Az. I was introduced to Jackson and Bruce by my good friend Jeanie. My all time life changing favourites.

  • Right on, brother. Welcome to American...belatedly.

  • I think that is Sid McGinnis from the Letterman Show on slide guitar. I know he has played with Jackson Browne and this would be two years before he joined Paul Shaffer's band so the timing is right. Pretty cool.

  • Two of America`s best

  • if you wanna hear someone great that's kinda like these guys, get 'STREETS OF NEW YORK' BY willie nile, amazing lp from 2006, a masterpiece.

  • Awesome!

  • My 2 favorite men in the world!! What could be better??

  • Jackson Browne beat Daryl Hanna.

  • daryl hanna needed a beating for how ugly she is anyways but jackson is much a better person than that

  • looks like Jackson and the boys got a sponsorship deal from nike, at least Bruce has got his boots on

  • That is really funny, RnRnaimal. Well done

  • The best song Bruce never wrote.

  • so true....i would always think of bruce when listenin to this, and it almost doen't surprise me that i found this viedo

  • I wish I was there...

  • Wow, literally my two favourite singer-songwriters on the same stage! And I'm only 15!

  • at 15.. you are way ahead of many. Keep your eyes open. Check out Nina Simone and Joan Armatrading.

  • I already have...I love both! But neither compare to Jackson...

  • i am 16 and there two of my all time favs

  • Neither of these men have stopped fighting for our freedom...it's been years since this video and the power to change the world still pulsates from it.

Wow...aren't we all running on empty?

  • No, with these people we are runnin' on half full!

  • The chick in the background in the white t-shirt has big knockers.

    That's all I've got.

  • I agree.

  • Wow! This was my favorite band that Jackson Browne toured & recorded with. That's Rick Vito playing the slide guitar on this song and one of my all time heroes, Danny Korchmar playing the other lead. I wish we had a concert released on DVD from that tour!

  • Mr. Dave was probably doing his solo stuff by then as he wasn't at Montreux '82 either. It's good to see Bruce getting Jackson to move!!!!

  • and..and where is Mr Dave ?

  • I thought the slide guitarist was rocking good. Anyone know who he was? Awesome performances alround.

  • OUTSTANDING!!!

  • dude...this shit is amazing...jackson and bruce, who could ask for more?

  • I would also love to see Stay. Jackson and Bruce did a fantastic version of that song on one of the No nukes shows. I wish someone could put it here as well.

  • none of the crap fake music today can compare to songs like this, Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Cochrane, Tom Petty, Elvis, all those guys, thanks so much for your music, i would like to see timberlake match that

  • Had to come back to this. Can ye tell me about these

No Nukes shows and what film please. Really interested.

  • This show was in Central Park and was separate from the No Nukes shows that they filmed for the movie. I was there fairly close and have had two black and white photos from the Jackson Browne set on my office wall for years. Bruce was not on the bill; Jackson brought him out during his set. The next day the NYT had a headline that said something like "800,000 at Central Park rally" but the friend who I stayed with in NJ said the Times got it wrong: The head should have been "Boss shows up."

  • Great to see these two brilliant songwriters together. Made me smile today and I was

about to go to work!!!!Now that is a achievement. Thanks to whoever sent this in. These guys are

    as good as it gets.

  • i love both of these guys! I am glad this video was posted thank you.

  • Pretty certain that this video is from Battery Park in NYC in September 1979 as that was the outdoor rally associated with the 4 No-Nukes shows at the Garden. I know that Bruce and Jackson played Running on Empty and an acoustic Promised Land at that venue.

  • This video is from 12-6-1982. They played those songs and according to brucebase this show was broadcast live on WNEW radio in NYC and televised on Cable TV.

If you see the video it's clearly that bruce is not the same that the 1979 no nukes shows.

  • @bruchee - i was at the no nukes rally in central park & it was during nice spring weather, see the shirt sleeves everyone is wearing. i think it was June 12, 1982 & that person who put together brucebase or the place where brucebase got their info simply wrote the date in the european style, which is day/month/year as opposed to the u.s. style which is month/day/year. then again, i can be totally wrong:)

  • @1950BobbyF I think you are right bobby I was there also and I remember warmish weather and it was central park NY.

  • @1246pop - thanks for your comment. anyway, this is one nice looking unoffical video.

  • @1246pop Thanks for your comment & agreement. Whenever it was, it's one fine show!

  • @moomannj This is not No Nukes.... not even close.

  • 10 stars!

  • What a kick-ass performance, two giants rockin' out!

    Thanx for posting.

    Peace,

    Jim

  • they have really fun out there. great vid.!!!

  • Great to see them both enjoying the song.....

  • was Russ Kunkel playing drums on this?

  • what a performance here...awesome...thanks for uploading it.

  • Awesome clip! So cool to see a young Bruce & Jackson performing one of Jackson's biggest & best hits! Thanks for posting this!

  • Agreed! Fantastic. They look as if they are really enjoying it too!
