When you moved how quickly did it take you to find new professionals? When i moved from the town i had been living in to Swansea (for university) it's taking me a long time. i moved in September and I've finally got an appointment for the 9th of December (under a week before i return to my parents place for the holidays). And so i'm wondering if you've been made to wait such long gaps yourself?
I'm very iffy about visiting psychiatrists. The next professional you talk to, you should ask them how much money they get out of prescribing less-than-effective medication. Medication that dulls the senses and creates a myriad of complex problems, while dealing with one to several issues that could often be solved by means of therapy and informing. I'm not saying that some people don't need meds, but a lot get unnecessary meds. I was on a bunch of different ones.
oh sorry i meant to say i am a boy with lots of cuts on his arm and i use long sleeves shirts alot even in the summer my family know and they sent me to the hospital to ive been in there four days. I saw your video on how to make arm warmmers i just want to know if it would look okay for a guy to wear them. I dress like a emo/punker don't know why i say that but i just confuess i really need a better way to hide them i stop doing it. well i am trying really hard but i just need help to hide them
i meant to say it that i have lots of cuts on my arm and i wanted to know if guys should were arm warmers to cover the scars i cut like crazy well i am trying real hard to stop. and i love your videos the really help alot
so for the first question my experience when i was a minor was that as long as i wasn't planing on hurting myself, as in i didn't have a set plan of this is when where and how im going to hurt myself, they kept it confidential. i'm not sure if that's how it work everywhere but that was how it worked for me.
For question one (this is personal experience): The private therapist I saw as a minor kept self-injury confidential unless it became extremely frequent or severe. The school psychologist I saw as a minor was required to disclose any self-harm. For my first year of college, as a minor, the counseling service would not disclose any kind of self harm. So I'd say it varies dramatically.
the first question is a toss up.. if the kid wants it to be kept between them and their dr then it should, but if the kid is in need of major help, then the parent shold be involved
i would like the question answered; "what form of treatment do they recomend for self injury? therapy, meds, both, other? and who would they most likely recomend, counsellors, psychologist, psychietrists, do they have to have the high qualification to be helpful?"
So mine is kind of like evanesceneAngel22'S question, but basicly I am just wondering my rights as a patient when I am in a psych ward and If I have the right to change my doctor while I am in the psych ward.
Your rights will vary depending on the kind of ward you're in and also where it's located (country wise) and your status (voluntary, involuntary) at the time. You should have the right to change doctors. Most hospitals have a patient advocate, who can elaborate further.
i would love to know in the next series if a client is allowed to change psycologists even if there psycologist wont let them, and no others at the service will take them
@idranktheseawater unfortunetly its a free service that im kind of ordered to attend otherwise i get locked in the mental health unit. i've tried many alternate times thank you :)
From my understanding, if a minor approaches a psychiatrist about issues that the doctor considers life threatening, the doctor is obligated by law to disclose this information to the minor's parents. Doctor-patient confidentiality gets sketchy when minors are involved. Minors are not legally considered able to make adult decisions, and so their parents are usually contacted about issues that require legal documents to be read and signed (such as admition or discharge papers in a hospital).
it doesnt really count cause it was at a school but social workers have to tell....well i dont know if it was really a have to but she strongly encouraged it and kept nagging until you agree to tell.....baka!
you should ask about the criteria for holding some one for psychological observation, i know a few people that would like to ask a doctor for help but do not want to be locked up.
From personal experience, I can tell you that the rules vary widely. In Germany, merely having thoughts of suicide or homicide could get you put on a hold. The therapist I see here in Florida will not put people on a hold unless there is a very likely threat to life, which usually means that the suicidal/homicidal person has a plan and the means to carry something out. But he also said that even that can vary, based on the person's history, mental state at the time, etc.
First, and I'm aware this is probably the most superficial comment possible, and I'm sorry about that, but I felt I had to mention that you're looking really well in this video, I mean maybe it's your makeup or the lighting, but you look really good here in this video I thought~
Secondly, I dig this back & forth you have going, and the information is good to have out there, so thumbs up & keep it up~
One of your viewers should ask their dr the question about treating minors without notifying the parents. I'm almost positive in the US they won't. In any treatment you must sign permission to treat and a minor cannot do that (even in emergency situations they try if possible to get the parents to sign for the child). It would open them to liability that their insurance wouldn't cover as they bypassed valid consent to treat. But i could be wrong.

If youre paying for it you are definitely allowed to change psychologists. You hire them. They work for you.
But if it's a free service, then it really depends on the program.

With my previous comment I mean treatment that would involve any use of medications. Purely psychological treatment might be very different.

The fact that they never have an answer about the minor thing is very upsetting.
It's one of my biggest fears that my parents find out that i never stopped SI'ing.
