  • Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! My rat Sabine does this also and I was convinced she was having seizures. I even rushed her to the vet.

  • omg thats so funny my rat looks just like yours so funny to bad she wont look at yje screen she is on my shoulder cleaning herself haha oh i never iknew that when they wave there heads they are scared well mine is like it looks like she is shifting her wieght is that the same thing?

  • Yeah shifting it looks like they are shifting their weight when they are scared. they can't see very well so they are trying to figure out if it's safe or if they should run.

  • omg thats so funny my rat looks just like yours so funny to bad she wont look at yje screen she is on my shoulder cleaning herself haha

  • They sway their heads side to side to get a better perception of their surroundings, especially if red-eyed. Things in foreground move faster, things further away move slower.

  • even though my rats are well past the age to go into heat theyve never stood still long enoughto let me pet them ever and so ive never seen them do that

  • i have a naked rat and her name is Clover!!! your rat is soooooo cute!!!! there so funny when there in heat however mine are spayed now so they dont do this anymore :( oh well, no tumors for my little ratties (: and i have videos of it so thats good enough hahaha

  • Also -- arching the back is called "lordosis behavior" in technical terms. :)

And I thought that waving the head from side to side was actually used to see better. Rats have poor vision and see better when the world is moving. At least, that's the reasoning I've heard behind the head movements. Rats with red eyes tend to do it more, presumably because their vision is worse.

  • The ear wiggling is the funniest thing ever. Hahaha. My rats do that too. :D

  • THIS FUCKING SONG IS EVERYWHERE : |

  • she is adorable!! i hope you are enjoying clover, you will find that rats are great companions.

  • thanks so much i thought it was because i was doing something wrong, ty

  • she is so pretty! i love the color of her fur.

  • i dint know that i have not seen my rats shaking but thanks that can help me alot in the future

  • So ive been researching this because i just got two female rats. Ive been rubbing their backs and havent gotten any ear wiggling or arching, but they are both super hyper right now and are chewing everything and running everywhere. they werent this hyper a couple days ago but i dont see any other signs of them being in heat but im not sure. any advice?

  • if you just got two female rats then they may still be too young to go into heat, mine didn't start shaking until about 5 months after I had her. It was sudden so it surprised me, but when they get to the age where they do go into heat they come into heat every four days and will shake like that (mostly at night) for one night/day

  • my rat georgie does that too! it is so funny!!!

  • i use to own 4 males yrs ago and never noticed or knew about that omg kool information and thanks!

  • only the females will shake like that

  • uhh that just saved me the urgent trip to the vet..:D

    thanks :)

[first time she came in heat i took her to the vet and they said she had epilepsy,so i got rly scared now :D ]

  • yeah I freaked out the first time too, and wasn't sure what to do, they come into heat about every four days. Mine doesn't shake as much anymore like she used to.

  • @Tainex007 I also took mine to the vet and he didn't even suggest that she might have been in heat. People in the Yahoo rat group that I went to though said she might be in heat.

  • Hamsters have a nubby tail and are usually more fluffy, and prefer to live alone. Mice and rats both have long tails, and like to live in pairs or groups, but rats are much bigger than mice, though I don't know about rats being ugly, unless you got a hairless rat. I have seen some very cute rats, and they are more intelligent and more trainable than mice and hamsters. But other than rats, mice and hamsters there are also gerbils which look like tiny kangaroos and also have a long tail.

  • beautiful girlie :) but like has already been mentioned, rats need to be kept in at least pairs.

  • Is she all alone? You seem to know about rats so are you going to get her some friends?

  • I have a friend with another rat so I am hoping they can be buddies =). My friend didn't know about the ear buzzing that they do, so I had to figure it out on my own.

  • Best of luck then getting them to be friends although rats do need pretty much constant company its best to have buddies to live with but a now and again friend is alot better than nothing.

  • Cute Rat !
