  • Ken Watanabe = awesome actor

  • I only disapprove because these men killed themselves. They should have taken one or two enemy with them. Every enemy who falls or is wounded is one who will not invade the homeland to kill your Mom, Father or family. Killing yourself is foolish and selfish.

I had relatives fighting the Japanese.

The Japanese were brave foes, fanatic and ruthless. Such qualities give more power to each soldier. Too bad that the Government squandered them too cheaply.

  • 天皇陛下万歳!!!

  • Americans were so noble treating the jap soldiers while those propably murdered and raped their way trough other countries....

  • @sm0keshell well actually for the most part the american soldiers hated the japanese and tried to kill most of them. its true that they tried to help them but they usually showed no mercy because they didnt receive any

  • Japanese back then had courage and loved their country, enough to die for it. What kills me is 95% of Americans dont give a fuck and would never even fight for their country.

  • @MrTomstatube Nationalism leads to racism and war, hence this video.

  • @MrTomstatube why would they fight for a country that forces themselves to get into every conflict that happens? If someone invaded America I'd pick up the nearest stick and fight to the death, however if they told me to pick up the nearest stick and invade some far off country I've never heard of, Fuck that.

  • @MrTomstatube

That still leaves 5 % to do the dirty work. More than enough.

  • i dont know chinese

  • really was part of life men if that war didnt freaking happened or no war was declared wed sure be over populated by now... @_@

  • the japanese imperial army is the best, they're willing to die for thier country, and do great sacrifices like kamikaze attacks or banzai charge.they're not commiting a suidcide, they're making a brave sacrifice

  • @TheKamikazepilot they lost you nimrod . the idea is to kill the enemy not yourself.

  • @MrStewart149 duh I know that but some of thier tatict mean u have to die in order to kill the enemy

  • do they still yell "Banzai!" in the Japanese army. just being curious:)

  • @boyformurder045

They don't really fight these days. Been under US protection since the end of WWII and are obliged by treaty not to fight offensively in war. They haven't gone into battle in ages and a day.

  • This movie still makes me shed tears....great movie ;)

  • Every year, I hear the Japanese killed more Chinese. By 2030, I predict I'll be hearing that during WWII, the Japanese actually killed about 350 million Chinese. There's too much propaganda bullshit from all Asians. The region is too tainted to get any real facts, though the irony is that it is where the killings occurred. My guess for the truth is this formula: take what the Japanese say + take what the Chinese say, and then divide that sum by 2, and you should get a decent answer.

  • y did i say 100s?

    millions

  • the Japanese killed 100s of chinese

when are they gonna do it the chinese perspective?

  • Tenno Heika Banzai x3 times!!!

  • (Tennouheika) Banzai used by japanese soldier means long life to the emperor, banzai is a generic enthusiastic exclamation word like "hurray!" but literally is "Then thousand years of life", so "long life"

  • what does bonzai mean?

  • Attack i think

  • @tortillaandbeans, banzai means ten thousand years

  • charge

  • great loyalty for communist china

but i am bored to read your propaganda

Say hello to your boss, Lǐ Chángchūn.

  • >>>Skullchaser8

    don't make me laugh.

How can i prove something that never happened?

It's the same fiction as UFO.

Many people says "I saw UFO. I was kidnapped by alien",but nothing has been proved ever.

Communist china fabricated it like that.

  • Did you Know, Mao killed 7x more Chinese then Japan did. but its irrelevant to this, why is it, on every WW2 Japanese related video, people always bring out Nanking, why can't it just stay on the subject of the video

  • Massacre of nanjing is a total propaganda by communist china.

it was fabricated to threaten japan for money and political advantage.

Communist china uses all kinds of nasty

    ways to diminish other countries.

i hope people don't beleive their propaganda at face value.

  • I fully agree with you.

We should learn history from facts, not from propaganda.

  • are you saying this fact or are you saying this is propaganda?

  • Ihr liebt das Leben doch wir lieben den Tod.

  • Schön das du auch hier bist.

  • 13??? They killed over 17 millon chinese...

  • Comment removed

  • LOL WHY DON'T U FOCUS ON HOW USA USED UNIT 731 DATAS AND SAVED TRUE CRIMINAL's ASS???

  • LOL? why would you laugh at that

  • Hem...there were Russian SS, Tartar SS, Albanese SS, Romanian SS, Finnish SS, Indian SS, Italian SS...

Don't believe the fuc***' school books or angloamerican "documentaries". He was fighting for Europe.

  • cute, where did the number come from. i think thats old info.

    this is the summary.

    1945 -Union army report: 1.3milion

    1945 -Chiang Kai-shek report: 1.3 milion

    1948 -Chiang Kai-shek report: 4.4 milion

1950 -Communist party of china: about 10million

1970 -Communist party of china: 18milion

    1985 -by chinese government: 21milion

    1998 -by chinese goverment: 35milion.

    2005 -by china communist: 50milion

  • so 1.3milion to 50milion in 60 years, from that data.

the average annual rate of increase.....6.3%

If it's gonna be maintained for a number of years

    2017 -breakthrough in 100 milion

    2029 - breakthrough in 200 milion

The 22nd beginning of century - 12.8 billion people

    what a funny:)

    this is chinese quality.

  • @mikerunoumi cha thats the new name of the war doktrine "the human wave" isn´t it :D

  • Comment removed

  • no i mean Hitler focused on 'religious group' not particular race. they not only killed chinese but killed korean as well.

  • wat does banzai actually mean????

  • banzai means 'hooray' - it has no meaning- it's just cheering words like yay! but it usually is used as ....patriotic means

  • hey wait a sec banzai means;

    Ban(means 10,000 )

    Zai (means the age)

meaning long live japan, like for 10,000 years! but even we use it in now days just for banzai! like horray!

  • I really have to admire the determination and self-sacrifice of Japanese soldiers, like the banzai charge and sepuku. However, the violation of the Geneva Convention Rules, like the deliberate killing of unarmed medics and the Bataan Death March are quite frightening. War to the Japanese was incredibly black-and-white. In the words of Sun Tzu, "All warfare is based on deception..."

  • the violation of the geneva convention rules and the bataan death march dont compare to dropping the atomic bombs and the internment of innocent japanese civilians. yet, most americans associate the japanese as the brutal, violent ones.

  • I never said the Americans were not guilty of war crimes. I simply mentioned those instances because they are illustrated in this film. Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as the interment camps for Japanese civilians in the United States were horrible atrocities of which I don't think many Americans are proud of. I simply didn't mention them because those events do not take place in this movie. I don't see Japanese soldiers as brutal, I see them as valant soldiers who died for their country.

  • The most bravest soldiers in history are Japanese :D

  • The Japanese soldiers were no better than the Nazi's. They slaughtered thousands of innocent civilians and POWS.

  • And the AMericans.Brithis and Russians also didnt slaugthered thousands of Civilians and POWS?

  • actually, the russians did slaughter thousands of Civilians and POWs.

  • Of course that was what I say dont know why 2 things down looks like people dont like to know the true.

  • that comment made no sense

  • Why it doesnt make sense?

  • dunno i cant understand wut ur trying to say thats all

  • what cant you understant? It was said in this comments that japanese were no better that germans in WWII but I just respond that british american and russians also comited atrocidies so whats difference? We can not labbeled one has good guys and the other bad guys because that simply doesnt exist.

  • they were the same shit that the japanese and germans, they al soldiers and the only things they whant is to kill

  • Comment removed

  • sorry i was telling about britain and americans and not about world domination.

  • Well, Japan did seize Korea and a very large portion of China, right? They were in alliance with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, so their goals were somewhat similar. Given they didn't preach racial superiority like Hitler did, but their goals were similar to Germany's in some regards. I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass, I just thought you would like to know.

  • oh they did. they invaded parts of asia.

also brutally killing many innocent citizens, except japan did not focus on some particular groups like Hitler did.

  • この映画まだ観てないんだよなぁ。今度借りて観ようかな

  • ooops nvm i watched the wrong video

  • ok this part wenr from part 2 where at the end he was talking about evacuating civilians to him encouraging and having some last words with his men?

  • It is considered the highest honor to die serving your country. That is what makes the Japanese have such an indomitable will.

  • Its not a "Suicide"

its a sacrifice for home-country. I'll likely to do it, but not like killing my self. If those motherfuckers from east (red army) attacks, i'll fight till the last breath i take.

You know word patriotic and courage?

  • @Easyway1 What Red Army? There's no Red Army anymore :P

  • @Easyway1 No dude, by about Tarawa they had to beg soldiers to DO sacrifice and not just blow themselves up: sacrifice is when you die like the defenders on Okinawa and Tarawa did: suicide accurately describes the early battles where Japanese forces had guns and ammo and food left, and still decided to leave Marines unharmed by killing themselves. Sacrifice is what Germans did- they didn't believe in suicide, and made it clear suicide was never an option, but they also fought to the last man.

  • @Easyway1

Saying you're a patriot is saying you're arrogant.

  • @LemurDeCatta

Saying that arrogant and patriot is same thing makes you idiot.

  • @Easyway1

    Go to hell.

  • @LemurDeCatta

And that proves how idiot you are.

  • @Easyway1

    What?

  • @Easyway1

    China:

    economically, America has already lost.

    Japan:

The Japanese mainland was untouchable for the Americans.

Economically, it was too expensive. They would have to negotiate a peace with Japan.

But they did not want peace. They wanted a total victory!

The atomic bomb was cheap and there are still more children born with genetic defects through the bombs without some form of compensation.

  • @Easyway1 Fight any enemy to the death. If your prepared to die and they are not, you win.

  • @Easyway1 well rather stupidity fighting for a land that is more standing for the rich people than for all people. dying for a land thats history is red of the blood of other countries that suffered under it is in my oppinion no patriotism but wrong. anyway respect to your will to die for your fatherland.

  • @Easyway1 Soviets been dead for a while, where have you been?

  • @187nydala ? What is that question..? Yeah i know soviets been gone for a while, but why yo are tellin it to me?

  • @Easyway1 Ok vilka är de röda för dig? VIlket är det Röda hotet?

  • @187nydala Sorry, I dont speak your pathetic gay language (a langue, what speaks people from country who didint do ANYTHING and shitted their pants in WW2)

  • @Easyway1 you're suposed to talk Swedish you little PUPPET now dance hahahahaa Dance puppet dance. Well good thing we didnt interact with WWII since after that to rebuild Europe they needed our iron, we sold it and became rich hahaa, We are so advanced and so FLYYY, that you finns are bitter. Even Åland which is finnish wants to become Swedish ;)

  • @187nydala Lol you can take that little piece of wasted lands if you want to, lol.

Your puppets.. sure, id surely like to see a war between us and show you what you are.. cus u aint nothing. And you rich? Hahahaha dont even start.

  • @Easyway1 yes. Sweden is Richer than Finland in every way. And wasted land, lets not talk about Finland. The whole country is wasted land haha. First puppet of Sweden in OUR control , then in Russian control, feel bad for you. You want to talk about war? Well Swedens been in way more wars than Finland and won more than you can imagen. Have FInland won against Russia? No, theyve fought hard, but they didnt win the winter war nor the continuation war. Have Sweden, Yes. Look up Battle of Narva.

  • @187nydala War with swords. :D

I wont even use my time with you, you dont deserve it. Everything you say is bullshit and i dont have time to correct em because you talk a LOT of shit.

  • @Easyway1 swords? wow, you really ARE stupid.

  • @Easyway1 Well thats rather stupid cause the sovietunion doesnt exsist anymore and the real american heroes died in vietnam and lost the war there. Be the patriot of your own backyard. you will never be able to achieve what japanese men have. because your nation is too young to have its own culture besides maybe slaughtering indians. The japanese culture is valuable and strong, the american is full of fat, wars and oil.

and the USA now have depths at china they will have to pay for long time.

  • @jamestaylor94b I dont know but did you realise that Im from finland..

I respect Japan as its perhaps only country with finland who havent ruin their culture.

  • @jamestaylor94b And i know Soviet Union aint real anymore but Finland and Russia have allways been in little tension.

  • japanese are peaceful and are the smart ones

  • Hmm, so lets fuck 90% of the world.

  • lol thats a lot of dicks to go around xD lol jk

  • screw u.

  • Can I ask u wat ur nationality is?

  • lol im japanese... and secondly, you americans use FUCK and SCREW, but YOU obviously dont understand that FUCK and SCREW are sexual terms and used when having sex? yea im american/japanese.

  • or about sex....

  • Like many words in the english language, fuck can have a variety of meanings. To be honest, it is clearly the most versatile word in the entire language.

  • what about screw then... IM GONNA SCREWDRIVER YOU! i dont get that one..

  • even if the body dies, the soul keeps being effective.

    this is japanese culture.

  • finaly, the action of Japan influenced all over the world.

independence movement happened in all of the world.

    they express gratitude to japan.

    only loser whites got angry.

  • britan, america, netherland, and spain had colony

    entire of the earth.

only japan was againt to them.

japanese thinks that if japan destroy by them,

we will never see peaceful world.

then never surrender to the all race.

  • american still conseal own bad history.

  • this movies words are lie.

"for the mainland, for our homeland"

    he was never say this.

"for the peculiar territory to race"

    this is true words.

america and britain had clony a lot.

  • The whole problem of the japanese military in ww2 was that the army was the tradional force while the Navy was the modern force. Most Navy officers knew that a war with the USA would lead to defeat while most of the army officers thought that they can win just like in the Russo-japo war.

  • yead but soviet and japan war was one of great war.

    it was chivalry vs bushido.

  • do u mean ww2 or are u talkin bout the russo-jappo war cause if u are it was between the new modernized imperial japan and Imperial Russia (1905)

  • Oddly enough, although heavy german tanks are often assumed erroneously to have been diesel powered, it was light Japanese tanks which often were actually diesels.

  • It is surprising that Japanese infantry never adopted a sub MG, but Im not sure if their eventual gradual defeat can be put down to this, as it did not prevent their phenomenal success in 1st year of the war.

The tanks were flimsy compared even to western tanks of the early war , but how much of the Pacific war or even China turned on tanks? Tanks making a difference was only patchy here and there small scale.

  • Japan was Provoked into a War of Self Defense

Synopsis of Arguments by Lawyers for the Defense

International Military Tribunal for the Far East

    By C. W. Porter

  • When you come to understand the motivs of the men who are fighting a war all wars are sad and tragic.

  • great film

  • A failure to develop a good SMG for close quarter work added to the minimum use of the SMGs already adopted was one stunning failure of the Japs. Their armor really sucked!! The arisaka cartridge was puny. Human wave attacks, charging attacks do not work when your enemy possesses MGs of all calibers with lots of ammo. Bravery is not equal to winning. If you want to die, die constructively. The Japanese failure in planning led to a defeat of a good army.Oh, and they had no air support.

  • I think one of the factor that caused so many US marines casualties is because US intelligence at that time kept on Under estimating the number of troops that japanese had on specific island, i might be wrong but thats what i heard on history channel about the battle for Iwo Jima. =/

  • *Our rifles (Italians) were shitty, LOL.

  • The Italians had good weapons. The quality and caliber of the average Italian soldier was rather poor. An uninspired soldier will not win a war.

  • Rifles from the first World War were good weapons?Uhm..

Anyway, the storm troops "Arditi" were low quality? Better than the best Marine, I think.

  • My friend. Only the American army started the war with new rifles, the garand-even the us marines made do with ww1 vintage springfields for some time. The mk 4 british smle was essentially a ww1 weapon, so was the karabiner 98k, so was the mosin nagant, and the arisaka and so on.

  • it was the best allied country of germany

but at least its good that germany lost the war

we would have been all nazis today

  • The japanese were possibly one of the best fighting forces in world war II. The only problem was that they lacked resources in Japan itself so they were forced to expand. The japanese samurai warrior culture regarded surrender as dishonour so they would not surrender and they treated allied prisoners harshly

  • far off being the best .. more like 2nd rate .. well behind the germans and russians

  • the germans were good except they made a mistake in attacking russia. The russian army on the other hand they had a good 30 million soldiers but they werent equiped well and not led well. They had about 15 million casualties

  • not so .. at the start of the war yes the russians were not fully equiped towards the end they were very well equiped thier generals were also very very good .. infact zhukov is hailed as the best of the war

  • true

  • At the start of the war, the Japanese Navy and Naval Air Force were among the best in the world but they got wore down as the war progressed.

As far as the army is concermed, while the soldiers were brave, they lagged behind in terms of quality and quantity of equipment such as rifles and tanks.

  • The Japanese army was fighting in a way and in terrain where it was difficult to use tanks and stuff. Their rifles and stuff were quite good and all but they lacked resources as i already said

  • Japanese army rifles and equipment were inferior. I'm no expert but their rifles lacked power to knock down or badly hurt a man if they didn't kill the target. They were used to fighting the Chinese, who had worse equipment than they did. Go to Wikipedia and search for Battle of Khalkhin Gol. It was in 1939 and the Soviets mauled the Japanese. You're right that island fighting is not the best terrain for armor but what they had didn't match what the Americans had, who fought on the same terrain.

  • it was more of a guerilla warfare on the islands

  • It might end up that way but it doesn't start that way. Guerillas don't have tanks or artillery pieces. These were soldiers who fought a conventional battle and when they are just about wiped out, they switch to guerilla tactics. The Japanese army in China never used guerilla tactics because they were beating the Chinese.

  • in this particular battle they started off not as guerillas but then they switched guerilla tactics. It all depends on the circumstances

  • I am not trying to put down the japanese army at all- but you were wrong about having good equiptment. Their rifles were shit.

  • they had good equipment at the beginning but towards the end they faced ammunition shortages and they lacked naval and air superiority.

  • You're right about the shortages...but incorrect on the equipment. Their rifles were shit from the get-go.

  • if you're so sure about the rifles, then how come the americans sustained about 6000 casualties on iwo jima and another 12000 on okinawa, even when the japanese had ammo shortages

  • ..... because even bad rifles can still kill people? What the hell kind of question is that? Do you really want to get in to specifics? I promise you I'm correct. I've herd it multiple times on the history channel, and read it in a number of books.

  • you've convinced me man, the japanese had shitty rifles but they however had rocket guns and you cant deny that they were good weapons

  • I wouldn't know about rocket guns...but you're probably right : )

  • yeah, they were a really vital weapon to the japanese when they were fighting in the pacific war and another reason why the japanese inflicted so many casualties on the americans on iwo jima and okinawa

  • Their rifles were shitty(I think worse than USA rifles, not shitty),but you say "because even bad rifles can still kill people".True.And a very well made defence plan, thanks to Kuribayashi.

    The rockets (70 units)were minimum 203 mllimeters(90kg weight).

  • wrong statistic, i meant 6000 and 12000 deaths, many more were wounded

  • I don't know about the rockets that the Japanese Army had, but their equipment from rifles to artillery to digging equipment was not up to the Allies, esp the Americans. If you watch the movie, the Japanese are digging beforehand. If they were Americans do you think they'd be digging with shovels & picks? They'd be using bulldozers & earthmovers. The Japanese Army lacked all of that. They were used to fighting Chinese, who were worse off. The Navy was top notch; it just couldn't replace losses.

  • the only good weps the japs had were the nambu the woodpecker and the 81 mm that owned completely

  • 20 million

  • Not All Japanese soldiers were bad. Some did not commit atrocities. I have no hate for the Japanese as far as im concerned They did there duty for there homeland as we Americans.

I think of all the atrocities have commited the Holocaust commited by the nazis were wrost then any crime the Japanese commited.

  • It's not what you think, it's what you know and don't know, or worse, what you chose to turn a blind eye to. Just to name one instance: Massacre and rape of Nanjing.

  • I know about Japanese war crimes they were horrific unspeakable acts. But Not all Japanese soldiers did this crap. Same goes for the Germans. Not of them were Nazi fanatics.

  • I agree with you on this point.

  • i like em in this movie but i hate japs in nankin

  • i love this scene...

they all go screaming banzai and then the next moment everyone becomes silent. It's as if the hesitation is really shown here

  • "For some reason, althogh I understand that the Japanese committed horrendous acts of cruelty, I feel sympathy and a strange admiration for these Japanese soldiers. I wonder if the US army really knew what kind of army the Japanese were "

It isn't like every one of them committed atrocities, this late in the war alot of them were Draftees.

I feel very much respect and admiration for them.

    Tennoheika BANZAI!

  • Hideki Tojo's Prison Diary

This was not translated till 2004 Interesting read in the least and very blunt and honest.

Hail all honest and brave men who love their people and soil!

  • Estuarchaos0,

you were just not there. You didn't have the luxary of fighting them. There is no downplaying what the Japanese did.

I feel absolutely no respect or admiration for them.

  • Great Moive

  • Does anyone know where I can find the whole movie??

  • The Japanese soldier was told during training that his life was worth less than the emperor's. Therefore, his enemy's life was worth even less than that, so he was licensed to commit such atrocities.

Don't forget that the Americans and the British are responsibly for similar atrocities. The Japanese military expansion campaign was more or less the same as the American Manifest Destiny

  • For some reason, althogh I understand that the Japanese committed horrendous acts of cruelty, I feel sympathy and a strange admiration for these Japanese soldiers. I wonder if the US army really knew what kind of army the Japanese were

  • scary thought knowing u r going off to war and not coming home for sure, and if u do it would be considered dishonor.

  • But it was part of the Japanese belief, to fight until the death or kamikaze to honor their country.
