  • that feel when my name is iain stewart

  • why he speake decent here, but in his programs, who he is a narrator. he takes it soooo far. its fucking redicilous

  • LOL worst narrator ever!!! learn to speak you scottish impisil

  • The problem is that us humans can't come to terms with how insignificant we are. it's like trying to stop the seasons from changing, we should just let the universe run it's course and enjoy it.

  • He makes brilliant tv programmes but I have to disagree with him here.

there has been at least five ice ages in the history of the earth. there was no cars or planes around to bring the end of the other ice ages. all these gases and chemicals such as co2's are native to this planet and the universe and so are us humans who are supposedly to blame. We are all the same, we are all made from stardust. the universe is constantly changing and one day the earth and the sun will die, that's a fact. Th

  • climate change is caused by the sun and it's a natural process. why a geologist buys into this scare mongering is beyond me. he should know better.

the climate has been changing for billions of years - that's how we got here.

pollution is another matter. i think many people confuse the two.

  • @Giantcrabb The sun has slightly cooled since the 1960s but the temperature has increased despite this. Go to the website "Skeptical Science" and look up the argument "It's the Sun" for more info.

  • 2 years later and nothing has been done, CO2 concentrations have been rising in an increasing rate (exponential grow). I don't get it... What else is needed to be done?

  • I am not sure about HIS CREDIBILITY as a source.

By doing some background research i found that the past decade his research has been funded by the IRCHSS. This is incidentally a government establish research council. Given that governments have an interest in CO2 taxation, his research might be geared in that direction as well.

Basically, im not to sure he is unbiased enough to be critical of his own research.

Just my opinion... never met the guy ;)

  • Just had a lecture with him @ Plymouth Uni! He put on one of his videos about the sea. He was really good.

  • Iain stewart is the best!!!! i was at his lecture today!!! at Colston hall in bristol! we all sang him happy birthday!!! happy birthday Iain!!!

  • thx so much for uploading this talk!

I find him so inspiring and I hope to meet him once :-)

  • @Garciamrcool - Why do say that. What is it, that you dislike. I actually like his vids, Docu's.

  • Hes is incredibly hot.. just been to a lecture of his..so interesting!

and he has a scottish accent! ;) amazing man.

  • yes, very hot!!

  • i watched the programs on the bbc and what doesn't sit right with me is that if they studied ice core samples and it shows big changes in climate every thousand years or so in times when there were very few people around and no cars etc, then surely that proves its not man made and if its going to change there is nothing we can do about it ?

  • @integra1able yes, but what you have to realise is that its proof that climate change is directly linked to increases in Co2 in the Atmosphere, therefore the fact that modern humans are kicking out 1000s of tonnes more can only mean that we will increase/speed up/worsen the effects of NATURAL climate change into an UN-NATURAL cycle which will have catastrophic effects for us (bye bye Bangladesh)

  • @nc2503 Well that is not entirely true

Ice core sampling (the same data Gore presents in "an inconvenient truth") actually shows that CO2 levels lags approximately 800 years after temperature levels A correlation is not the same as causation

Ask ur, if you were doing a linear comparison of 2 lines (CO2 and Temp) Would u present 2 lines in two different diagrams one above the other (like Gore did in his film) Or would you use 1 diagram with both lines overlapping

  • @integra1able Dr Edward Teller in the Fifties warned that the burning of fossil fuels would lead to the melting of the ice caps on Earth. He was a darling of the right wing due to his advocacy of MAD and Reagan's star wars, which the fore mentioned right wingers choose to forget.

  • Just seen this guys show on bbc2, in which he states that the climate models were proven to be accurate because one predicated that a vocanic event would lower the tempreture... ARE YOU KIDDING!!!...

I build computer models, not climate but for thermoset plastic mould flow analysis.. this is the equlivent of me writing on a peice of toilet paper... plastic hot.

It just goes to show how far we are from decent climate models and computers anywhere near powerful enough to predict climate change

  • Professor Iain Stewart's field is vulncanology. Its commonly known that large scale eruptions will lower the temperature. This is because the dust/ash.etc.. eminated from large scale eruptions spread through our atmosphere and reduce the effect of the suns heating effect. This theory is widely known and accepted.

  • Exactly! we already know that a volcanic event will cause this to happen.. which is precisely why I compared it to saying molten plastic is hot.. its obvious, its a given, so it does nothing to prove that a climate model is any good.

  • He admits he's abandoned the data & now just preaches !

He taps into emotions & people's concerns rather than discuss's science & the facts.

He's become a preacher of the religion of Man Made Global Warming (MMGW.)

  • 95% of greenhouse gas is water vapour that has nothing to do with burning fossil fuel. The warmest year was 1998.

One therefore could base a rash argument on this we are heading towards the next ice age. At least that's what one should say if one is of the same mindset as proponents of MMGW in taking a snap shot of a relatively short term trend in a natural cycle, then making wild extrapolations from it.

  • The troposphere should be warming if greenhouse gases are trapping the suns heat. It isnt. The current period of global warming started 150 years ago, 40 years before cars and planes were invented. Global temperature actually dropped between 1940 and 1975 at a time when CO2 levels continued to rise. However during that period levels of solar eruptions fell. Graphs of solar activity correlate better with global temperatures than graphs of levels of CO2

  • The geological record going back 600m years shows rises in CO2 levels lag global temperature rises by 800yrs as it takes aprox 800yrs to warm the oceans.Warmer oceans emit more CO2. Yet number one preacher of MMGW Al Gore on film points to long term graphs of CO2 levels versus ocean temperature claiming more CO2 means means higher temperatures whilst conveniently overlooking the fact that rising CO2 levels lag rising ocean temperatures so are an effect of global warming not a cause

  • He talks for 15 mins all emotion but no facts to support MMGW !

    Scientist !?

The warmest time was 200 years during the medieval period. There were no cars or planes then. CO2 is only 0.038% of the atmosphere. Man's contribution is a tiny proportion of that. Copenhagen proposal is a tiny proportion of that tiny proportion of that tiny proportion.

  • Woah woah, what's with those hating comments!!!

I will have you know clockworknaranjax, that Iain Stewart is not only a brilliant lecturer, but a brilliant guy to get along with as well.

Am so pleased to have this guy as my lecturer! He's so nice!!!!!

  • lol, my name is Iain Stewart.

  • i absolutley love this guy! i love his accent, his opinions, his programmes everything! he makes science fun! love you iain!

  • i love this guy! konw him from the documentary BBC EARTH-the power of the planet. he is excellent despite his strange accent.

  • iv seen and been wiv dis guy for real i didnt get his autograph but i had a chat wiv him on this trip!!!

  • you are totaly out of order to iain! omg. you're so mean to scottish people!

  • Guess what! Iain's daugter is Cara Stewart, and IM Cara's BEST FRIEND! I KNOW IAIN STEWART!

  • @Yorkie980 is this a joke?

  • @BlaithinXO nooope.

  • He came to our school - snazzyyyy (;

    x

  • Iain Stewart is neither qualified nor objective enough to present climate change science to the public. The University of Plymouth should be ashamed at the way he has helped to discredit a balanced portrayal in the media of climate issues. The current investigation by Ofcom following all the complaints of "The Climate Wars" is justified as would be the BBC ending their abysmal campaign of climate change bias. See Bob Carter on youtube to at least see some real scientific facts.

  • I love Dr. Iain Stewart...he makes geology interesting for me (no easy task, I might add). Is it just me, or doesn't he begin to look a bit like Wallace from Wallace and Gromit, tho? :P

  • well done ,must do better!

the video and BBC shown tonight are what is needed to shake a few politician's and money markets.

we need to link the financial institution's to climate change.

We need to scrap all taxes, and introduce a carbon tax, to really make a difference globally.

we need to shake the young generation into real debate to show it is in their interest to have responsible, smart, controlled recession.

  • The trouble is with this guy is that he comes across as smug, he might not be his fault though and there might well be something in global warming, the thing is he is saying we can't risk wrecking the planet but at the same time other scientists in other areas have built a particle particle accelerator which has a chance of creating a black hole. Do scientists want to save the planet or not?

  • Iain has contradicted himself with tonights show about global warming. he told the story once about how the planet melted snowball earth, now claims humans are warming the planet up that will harm future generations.

Is it the case, that the more ice melts, the more clouds will form, the less the sun will keep us warm?

In England, this has been the coldest year i can ever remember, by a mile the worst summer.

  • Watch his latest series about global warming. It gets pretty political, and he starts to get angry!

  • i just love this he is so cute and his accent is so aduarable especially in the BBC's documentary "earth"

  • PLease don't say that, he's one of my lecturers!

  • you are so lucky :)

  • he is a hottie but hes got a point.

  • I LOVE Iain Stewart...what a hottie!!
