  • Does 1000h work with 1x4 gb ddr2 ?

  • where do you get the RAM mods?

  • this procedure so scary. LOL!

  • Thanks for the video I will have a go when my RAM arrives I was toying with the idea of using an angle grinder to create a panel on the bottom. This looks less messy LOL.

  • Great video

I just upgraded the eee 4 g with 2 gigs rams and it works!

    Thanks!

  • Sweet! Thanks so much for this tutorial. It was a pain to do this upgrade but I was successful thanks to your video.

  • Excuse me, I saw the title of this video, but I just can'it believe it. Is it really working for Eee PC 900? I mean with anything on this device? Oh and can I put it into the Asus Eee PC 901?

  • thanks

  • thanks for this tutorial i really liked it my eee pc is the same it dont have hatch and i was very woried that its not upgrateble thanx alot its not so hard as it seems i'll try it :) andd i want to ask you how do i can add webcam my eee pc haven't got one :(
  • my eee is way different...i only had un screw 2 screws, didnt have to remove keyboard...jus get a better cp so u dont have to do this

  • this is WAY too complicated!!! my Acer and Toshiba had a simple port where you unscrewed some plastic and took the plastic thing off, took out old ram and put in new ram, put the nails back in the plastic thing, then screwed them back in and done.

    jesus, this is messed up.

  • thanx dude. i already thought that mine eee pc is not upgradable. is it possible to buy the back cover with the hatch ?

  • wow Xbox 360 controller!!!

  • if any one wants an invite pm me ill send it as soon as possible

  • all that just 2 add 1 ram module !? u should of got a laptop instead coz all u need 2 do is lunscrew a plastic cover, take out the old ram, insert the new one and screw the lid back on - easy as that

  • No shit genius, that is a laptop, this is a netbook.

  • Nope not really ... 2GB is alright for typing stuffs but if it is able to tuned to 4GB . I will rather go for 4GB because of the graphic card in it... its only a GMA950 with very low FPS and if you have your 2GB used up by processes you will lag like a turtle.

  • 2gb is enough for a laptop like this

  • Newer models have a hatch, people

What's the sauce on the music?

  • LOL do you need to take every eeepc like this apart? I didn't need to do it with mine.

  • Hi, I'm thinking of buying one of these second hand. What exactly is the benefit of more RAM ? (total rookie here ^^)

  • Random Access Memory (RAM) provides space for your computer to read and write data to be accessed by the CPU (central processing unit). When people refer to a computer's memory, they usually mean its RAM. If you add more RAM to your computer, you reduce the number of times your CPU must read data from your hard disk. This usually allows your computer to work considerably faster, as RAM is many times faster than a hard disk.

  • increase speed of the pc

  • Glad this video helped people out, sorry the title wasn't too clear. To clear things up...I wasn't installing 4GB of Ram only 2GB. The model is the 4G Surf (Which stands for the internal SSD memory)

  • i did all of that, then i realized my eee had a hatch on the back, so i opened the hatch, two screws or even one, and the memory was just behind that hatch, and i was like the music in this vid

but its a good video anyway, i should have looked closer at model name perphaps

  • Wow, lol, I was like: IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE...4GB!!!

  • hi, i have a question, do you know what kind of a ram should i get? do you think that is this okay?

    2GB DDR2 667 SO DIMM-Micron

can you please tell me asap??

  • You should change the title of this video to "Eee 4G Surf Ram Upgrade".

The model is called the 4G model... not the 4GB model... And it's people who have non-surf models will thing you're crazy for taking it apart when their models have the hatch (my initial thoughts until i read all the comments and figured out what was going on).

  • Please mention that this is for 901 models ONLY. My 4gb 701 has a little hatch that makes the process very easy.

  • this works for the 701s as well except the white ones dont have a hatch but the black ones do.

  • yeah, I was about to salavate until i realized that he was installing 4GB RAM in there, and went through all the trouble :)

The tune is Ferry Corsten - Punk (Dub mix) If you want a regulat one, just google Ferry Corsten - Punk and you'll have the lyrics as well :)

  • Whats the name of the tune? Had it here on my hdd for a few months, get back to me soon ;)

  • Nice surgery, thanks to show it publicly. No blood, no tears, and a happy end.

  • you need remember people that this video only for 901 models, because i have the 701 model and i just need open a box under him and change the ram. sorry for my bad english (brazilian)

  • I NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO

why cant i see the video cb

  • talk to me honey:P

  • LMFAO

  • ily

  • great job PLmikePL these days i'm goind 2 buy a 2gb ram...soo god help me:D i'm a lil bit scared by the ideea of taking apart the whole eee... for now i bought a 16Gb SDHC from silicon power...enough in my oopinion it does the job well.

  • Great instruction video !

However at time of writing the 4GB SODIMM's aren't available in shops, only for pre-order.

It seems the Eee's arn't yet able to detect 4GB so any attempt to install/use the full capacity (once you get hold of this chip) will be useless until there's a BIOS to support it (also unclear if there are other HW constraints ?) But again; the video is great also if you install the widely available 2GB size.

Luckily many models have hatches so installation are easier there.

  • This is excellent, thank you for taking the time and trouble to make the video. If I may, I would like to ask two questions:

    1) What speed / type / type / etc of RAM is required in the ASUS?

    2) If I were to install a 4GB block, would it be recognised by linux? I would like to think it would, but I am not so familiar with the ASUS yet.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Martin

  • Shut up Picatrix , the 4g model(mine its the blue version) doesn't have the ram door(hatch) so its difficult to replace the ram.

  • What's the use for 4GB of RAM when one only have one neuron??? This guy states he's using the 701 (4G) model, right? He could do the same thing in 15 seconds!!!

  • thanks for advice !!!

  • can you install more gig on the 1000h?

and also whats the song called its amazing!

  • Not entirely sure...but the song title is at the end of the video.

  • lol your making us watch the entire video to get the song name

  • hey u kno theres 2 screes on the back that lets u put in the ram u retart

  • he has the surf version, it hasn't that screws

  • GHMike...explain what screes are? and whats a retart? If you mean screws...mine doesn't have a hatch at the back....retard.

  • markii63 IS RIGHT, THE MAN HAS THE SURF VERSION. I BET YOU MUST FEEL LIKE A GINIUS!!!

  • am one slot so im guessing a single 4gb stick of ram wtf doesnt that cost more than the eee pc itself lol, gr8 video if its the real deal very convincing if its not lol :P

  • It works on ASUS EEE 4GB green Surf? I think i have some stuff like black and white asus eee...

  • ┏┫ ┏┓ ┏┓ ┣┓ ┃┃

    ┗┫ ┃ ┣┛ ┏━━┻┃ ┃ ┗━━━┛ ┃ ┣━━ ┃ ┗━━━┳━━━┛ ┣━━ ┃ ┏━━▇▇▇━━━━━┻━━━┛

  • You must be completely retarded....look at 0:42....there arent any screws on the back side...its a different model. Thanks for coming out. Watch a video before commenting on it...retard.

  • i dont get it, there was onli 1 slot, and can u upgrade the ssd on it?

  • So could you in theory

take the ram out of any computer

and replace it we more memory

    without installing anything?

  • Great job. Finally some usable eee information. Thanks.

  • Will this work on 1000h?

  • I have a green, I want a white! Nice vid and music. Though, Smart me, I did almost all of the stuff in the video, till I realized all I have to do was remove a little hatch on the backside and pull out and put in the memories xD.

  • im doing mine soon lucky for me i have a memory door

  • hey man i just wanna tell you how much you helped me i got the eee 900 but still used ur tactics to rip it open thanx alot man btw the clips at the back are hard to unclip i ended up with a nail in it and fourced it 45degreez and it finaly worked btw (DONT FORGET TO UNCLIP THE FAN AND SPEAKERZ befor taking out motherboard)

  • Glad it helped you out and yea those back clips were really annoying to unclip haha. Cheers

  • lmfao @ first i thoguht this was a guide on how 2 destroy your laptop :) goodwork on foolin me :P

    5/5 on this tutorial tho

  • omfg sorry man now i know why you did it that way.

  • 4G has a door for ram access.... 4G Surf has no door... comes with 512k ram which must be removed to install 1GB or 2GB card... If you install 2GB pack and run Linux, you must recompile the kernel to accept 2GB otherwise it will only see 1GB of your 2GB installed... For Linux, 1GB is more than sufficient... With 1GB you really don't pick up much speed with Linux but you will with WinXP.

  • what is type of ram needed? what is the highest number of GB's can you get?

  • DDR2 type, size depends on model

  • which eee pc do you have? why does is not have a ram backdoor?

  • I think its an older model! And the newest ones now have larger screen and 16GB inbuilt memory (1GB ram)

  • This was exactly what I was looking for, after receiving a blue 4G eee pc 701 that I bought on ebay and discovering it did not have the RAM access door. Oh nooooo! But your video gives me hope. Very nicely done, very clear. By any chance is there a written document (read along instead of sing along) of this procedure? thanks.

  • Sorry to say...I actually don't have a written document guiding the procedure...all I've got is the sing along. Hope it helps though. You could still pause it at the specific parts you want to read and the at the pictures you want to view.

  • Mike.

Thanks once again. I received my extra ram today and took the plunge. The 5 hidden locks were the most testing part but with the help of your Vid I was able to locate them - I would never have figured how to get the thing apart without it.

Buy yourself a beer on me!

    TedW

  • Glad the video helped you out...and I'll agree finding those locks was a pain haha. Took me a bit of time....I knew something was holding it shut. Good Stuff.

    -Cheers

  • hi, im brazillian so sorry by my english, but i have a question: the asus eee pc suport 4gb memory just with 1 slot? many "real" notebooks dont suport 4gb in each slot... and the windows xp just recognize 3gb memory... can you explain to me? thank you

  • The 4GB in the title refers to the model number of the Eee PC...not the actual RAM size. If you watch the video I clearly state and show pictures of the 2GB's of ram.

  • yo just open the ram hatch at the back of the pc and do it that way....don't know why you went the long route

  • My Eee PC doesn't have a RAM door...look at the pictures. Thanks for coming out.

  • it's a surf-model

  • Oh, sorry - didn't know you were putting the name into the credits. Silly me.

  • Only one question - what song is that?

  • its not a song, its noise 0o

  • Don't all songs consist of noise...aren't all songs noise? wow...lmao No Noise/Sound = No Song

  • Thanks a lot for the video. I have just got a 4gb surf and didn't realise/know about the ram door. I have searched message boards all over the web on how to get at the ram in order to change it without success - and it's all here! It has given me the confidence to do the business as soon as my new 1gb ram arrives!

    TedW

  • Yea not a problem...and really don't stress about taking it apart. It's fairly simple...people panic when they see that you have to take it apart but you should have no problems installing the RAM. I did this in about 20 minutes first try....it was annoying to get the non visible pins to pop up. I then decided to put this video together to help people out.

  • whats the song please

  • Punk- Ferry Corsten

  • exactly

  • thanks m8

  • Hi..is the 4Gb version good??should i buy black or white??appreciate if u could reply asap..thanks!

  • I would get the black version, I think it looks a lot better and would last a lot longer. White electronics tend to change colour(yellowing). So far mines alright I try to keep it clean as possible...but black would definately be the better option.

  • where did u buy the 4gb ram at? please respond

  • How much does 4 GB of ram cost?

  • The 4GB in the title refers to the 4GB Asus Eee Model.

  • Okay.

  • Okay... the title says 4 GB ram install. At the beginning of the video it says 2 GB DDR2.

  • The 4GB actually refers to the 4GB Asus Eee Model.

  • does it work on Asus eee 900? pls answer.. thanks!

    btw great video!

  • I'm not completely sure if it works with the 900's. Sorry and thank you. I decided to put the video together since I realized later that my EEE didn't have a ram door. Glad its helping people.

  • screw all that, i would cut a back door into that thing

  • my God.. why didnt ASUS just put a door on that thing ;)

  • Thanks PLmikePL.

It was really easy with your instructions. It took me approx 15 minutes for first time opening.

  • Glad it helped you out.

  • oooh i get it.. its not installing 4 gigs of ram its installing ram on the 4gig version of the eee...

  • yep

  • does it work on 4gb surf please pm me someone with the answer

  • Yes it does.

  • can anyone tell me if thats all what you need to do when you upgrade your ram or do i need to install anything?

  • That is all you need to do.

  • Why not just buy the regular 4G with the hatch for $50 more, and get the upgraded battery (5200 mAh/3.5 hour vs. 4400 mAh/2.75 hour life)? This is a lot of work to save $50 and have a worse battery. Otherwise, thanks for the upload to show others how to do it. :-)

  • This was one of the original Asus Eee....and the one with the hatch cost more than $50 more. It really isnt all that complicated to open up the Eee. I did it in about 8 minutes.

  • whats the song?

  • Ferry Corsten - Punk....its in the credits.

  • Thanks man, yeah sorry i saw it at the end :D

  • hey dude btw.. this was has nothing to do with the video.. but i wonder if you did also add extra gb with a SDHC? I bought a 8gb one.. but linux is not detecting it.. I mean the hard drive appears the original 4gb. it does not change.. why is this?

  • I'm not entirly sure why it doesnt detect your memory card. It should since it does support SDHC.

  • no i mean.. it detect the sdhc but as separate.. when i click to check my hard drive space, it shows the original 4gb.. i mean does not include the 8gb of the adhc

  • It shows you like a separate drive, because it IS a separate drive :P

If you want to, you can install the SO (Xandros, for example) in the 8Gb SDHC and use the internal 4Gb SSD for music or something.

If you've thinked that you'll got a single 12Gb drive with that, you was wrong :P

  • this is a lot of hassle just to change the ram...

but i dont think that 512mb of ram will be enough for me...

plus, theres always the chance of accidentally breaking the motherboard...

  • Breaking the motherboard is very unlikely.

  • I'm so fucking glad i found this video lol you're a saint!!!!

  • Glad it helps! haha

  • another question, sorry... how is the max of ram you can install? just 2gb? and it may support ddr3? or just ddr2?

  • It does not support DDR 3 and the maximum ram it supports is definately 2GB.

  • max ram (for XP 32-bit) would probably be 2gb.

If you try 4gb of ram, XP allocates 2GB for user-mode processes, and 2GB to kernel-mode processes. This allocation only becomes a problem when you start using close to 2GB of RAM. If you get close to that, you can put the /3GB switch in your BOOT.INI. That will change your allocation to 3GB/1GB user/kernel (but this is not always the best way :D)

  • Hello, I have the 4gb surf model but with 512 of ram... I think this is a great guide, but for heavy programs I use my laptop, I feel 512 is enough for the eee.. where did you note the difference after installing? i dont think it will boot faster.. maybe one you use multiple programs? it is really a lot of difference? please let me know.. thanks

  • You won't notice a great difference in boot time, but you will notice that when you open many applications they do respond and open up a lot faster. 512 RAM is definately sufficient, but for an extra $40...why not just go all out? haha Just my personal opinion. Hope that answers your question, if you have anymore feel free to ask!

  • You'll need 2GB if you ever want to 1.) have many applications open at one time, 2.) plan to edit large files (ie: videos, etc.), 3.) plan to install and play a large game (ie: Oblivion, LOTRO, newest FPSes, etc.).

  • after watching that i am glad i got a hatch on my eee! , I would not feel good about doing that to my precious. Im gonna take him out tommorow and see if some japanese girls will be so impressed that they will let me touch them,

    :-/

  • Ha ha ha its stupid. You just dismantle your eee pc. just watch NCIXCom Video. Guys dont try this at home

  • afaik the EEE-4g SURF-Edition has no cover on the back you can simple disamble.

You must dismantle this version (I've got one, too...)

P.s.: THX 4 the vid. Helped me pretty much :)

  • Not a problem...I'm guessing marvixb is retarded since in one of the pictures you can clearly see there is no ram door. lmao....glad it helped you. :) haha

  • do u no whatcpu it has and if its upgradeable? plus can u install vista on it?

  • I don't think the CPU is upgradable and Vista would be very slugish on the machine...even though it is possible.

  • Thank you man!

Very detailed and nice video! Totally useful. I just changed my RAM (4g surf green modell, without hatch).

  • Not a problem! Glad the video helped!

  • Thanks, for posting this. I just replaced my 4G surf memory. Very simple and clear instructions.

  • Glad the instructions helped you out! I tryed my best to make it as simple and as clear as possible.

  • its the hard way to make it

on the bottom of the asus eee pc is a cap and under the cap is the ram lot more easy to do as this one

  • daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

  • You must be completely retarded. Some of the models of the Eee do not have ram slots on the bottom. Wow. Idiots.

  • Thanks, for posting this. I just replaced my 4G surf memory. Very simple and clear instructions.

  • can u post the model of ram pls?

  • Kingston 2GB PC2 - 5300 CL5 200 Pin SODIMM

    (DDR2 667MHz)

  • thanks:)

  • Thanks, for posting this. I just replaced my 4G surf memory. Very simple and clear instructions.

  • Thank you man!

Very detailed and nice video! Totally useful. I just changed my RAM (4g surf green modell, without hatch).

  • what model of ram u use?

  • 2GB, Kingmax, DDR2, 667 Mhz, SO-DIMM

  • man, theres another method of doing this and it dosnt involve in removing anything except the ram cover. no need to remove the keyboard, touchpad, screen. it dosnt void the warranty. flip the eee pc over, remove the two screws. you will see a waranty sticker but asus said that it wont void any waranty as long you only change the ram which asus have said that it is totally legal.

  • ZYXELP600 the eeepc in video is the "surf" model and it has no ram door

  • it ll be very helpfull for ppl who upgrade their ram to post model of ram here.i know that most of 2gb - 200pin-so dimm ddr2-667 mhz work but....

    cas latency isnt a subject?

  • I'll post the model of RAM later today or tommorow if you would like.

  • cl 5 is the right cas latency

  • im having a surf 4g black in 1 or 2 weeks n i need info so i buy a stick of ram (2gb)that has been tested,so it ll be very helpfull .thanks

  • just installed the 2gb ram on my asus eee pc701 4gb surf!works perfect!nice tutorial!!

  • Glad the tutorial helped!

  • It works, thank you

  • Not a problem...glad it worked for you as well.

  • how much ram can you upgrade on the 2gig version?

  • I'd say max 2GB.

  • doesn't your eee pc have a door on the back?

  • My Model Has A RAM Door So It Was A Lot More Easy

  • Update: This only works on some models. It worked for my 701 model...

  • here i thought this was a 4GB RAM UPGRADE for the asus eee pc BUT was just a ram upgrade on the 4gb hard drive version lol.. confusing title...

  • Yea the 4GB in the title refers to the model with the 4GB hard drive. It is a 2GB RAM installation.

  • How much RAM can the MB handle? Since there's 2gb SO-DIMM sticks. Also what's the speed for the RAM ?

  • I'm going to say at max 2GB. There wouldn't really be a use for more.

  • I'm going to buy Eee PC. Can I follow your ram installation with Eee PC 4G (without "surf")? or the ram installation only works with 4G Surf only? Your answer is appreciated. Thank you very much.

  • If it is the model with the web cam...it may actually feature a ram door. Asus has made it very confusing to tell which features the ram door. My tutorial will not work with the 2GB models...mainly because the ram is sodered in.

  • hey najs vid. what is the name of that song? tnx! :)

  • The song is Ferry Corsten - Punk...I did indicate this in the credits.

  • O please for the love of god. you need to be doing this for all the mod tutorials

touch screen, blue tooth, usb hub, 2x16 32Gb of flash mem, gps???

anyone agree with me? people mod these things like crazy

I just started ordering parts for a project of my own with my own secret bells and whistles

  • lol...wish I could...only other mod I may consider doing later on would be the touch screen. I don't want to put to much money into this laptop since I have a nice gaming PC. Thanks for the positive comment though! Hope this video helps!

  • This was *So* helpful. I was trying to follow a text description which omitted the step of using the pin to release the locks, and gave up until I watched the video.

20 minutes later, I have upgraded from 512 to 1GB of RAM. Thanks!

  • I'm glad you managed to unlock them. Those pins are frustrating to unlock...it's easy once you know were they are though...so I did my best to show the exact spot in the video. Glad it worked for you.

  • does only the 2gb model have the hatch? because if thats the only one that has it ill just buy a 2g and get a sd card xD

  • Nope the with the 2GB model you cant upgrade the ram.
