  • Great playing! Sounds just like the original

    Welldone!

  • @VintageAudioSounds, take a look at this one: watch?v=glTxO3zytM0

    I think it's better!

  • What effects if any are you running?

The bass is everything in this song and you nailed bro.

  • @skinnyernie, I used no effects (I actually very rarely use effects). This is an old video: if you have time, take a look at this

    v=glTxO3zytM0

    I think it's quite better!

  • exelente, es impresionante como la tocas....

  • @mauriliq85, thanks so much but I think the last version I uploaded some weeks ago is better!

  • The recording does not do your playing justice!

  • sir can u give me a tab for this

    you are great

  • @toriowaw, you're too kind!

As regards tab/notation I'm sorry but I play by ear...

  • haha, we forgive you for 2:58

  • @whatsthebigfndeal, phew... thanks!

  • @whatsthebigfndeal youtu.be/hrKHf_x1OQE?t=2m54s

  • awesome man

  • Very slick, and I'd wager that that's a Bububand t-shirt!

  • @satchelpooch01, yep! That's the limited edition: only 25 embroided t-shirts - in blue or light grey - for the band members and our greatest fans! We're kinda weird guys!

  • Epic. Nailed. Subscribed.

  • je dirait que c'est un "sans faute", excellent travail !

  • you play really cool

  • .

As someone once said-- "You should FEEL the Bass , not hear it.... "

  • Looks effortless, clearly a very talented player.

  • esse baixo mata muito

  • Great job, man!

  • Awesome interpretation of one of my all times ever bass line.

  • CAN THIS B PLAYED AS SMOOTH ON A FRETTED BASS?

  • @830OUTLAW, I'd say it can't

  • @830OUTLAW -Definitely not.

  • @830OUTLAW - Of course it can, but it won't have anywhere near the expression of the fretless bass.

  • AWESOME JOB!!! KILLER bassline

  • sure they are Palladino at his best.....bty how is your bass´action ?

    thnks

  • @Sanson101: well, I'd say all my basses' action is low on straight necks (the lowest I can get without making the strings buzz: my right hand touch is quite light).

  • This bass line is awesome! I love it, man!

Speaking of bass lines, I'm a bass player myself in the midst of writing my first solo CD (I used to be in a couple of bands, two I became dissatisfied with & the third faded into obscurity just as I was getting it all together!) I play a Squier P-Bass which I am using to write the basslines to some of my own songs I'm putting together.

  • insisto te paraces a tony stark

  • great!

  • This is absolutely amazing...my dad is playing a bass guitar to and i have been learning...greetings from Croatia!

  • WOW A M.M Sabre!!!! Crazy as soon as production stopped everyone wanted one. It's taken a few years for M.M to catch up. You can now buy them with the extra pick-ups. Took long enough! I know there bloody rareto find here in U.K, I'd love one to go with my Stingray 4 & 5 stringers. I raise my hat to you sir an amazing job at being Pino. You may guessl I'm a huge fan of his and all his style/technique. I would/will raise a pint to you my friend. Excellent!

  • Y the fuk would we wanna' watch this? Seriously - what kind of mental disability makes N E 1 think 'play along' krap is entertaining? U R not even doing something new - just repeating exactly what's on the record. OMFG how lame.

  • @DuralastTurbo

All I can say is, ur a prick mate. I typed in 'Fretless Bass' in the search bar and this is exactly the sort of thing I wanted to see. This guy is majorly talented. Everyone but you seems to be enjoyin' it. Fuq knows what your problem is.

  • @thelonesoldier All U should say is "This guy should do his own damn material instead of lameazz playalong BS."

  • @DuralastTurbo

    Well look, if that were true. People like me, who were specifically looking for Pino Palladino / Paul Young Fretless Bass covers, wouldn't have this great vid to watch. The guys good, very good in fact and it's a brilliant interpretation of the Bass Line, as for it just being 'lameazz playalong BS';

He actually does stuff in this that are unique from the original. Uses his own creativity.

  • @thelonesoldier Stupid Troll-Tard, everything I said is true & U know it. I am not your 'chat buddy', & this isn't a debate. Get a life.

  • @DuralastTurbo

    Hahahahahaha, yer fuqin' loser.

U just gave me a right laff. 'Ave a fuqin' word wiv urself Qunt-Features.

East Bowling, Bratford, West Yorkshire. Anytime u litte TW(-)T!

    Cheers Chat Buddy :) LMFAO

  • @thelonesoldier Your Troll-Tard dance doesn't change the fact it is extra-lame 2 post 'play-along' krap like this video, & that he should do his own material instead - even a krappy improv =) Get a life, clown.

  • Hey this is great! Always loved this bass line and now I can easily learn it. I play a fretless gibson ripper, Thanx bro!

  • @tindoor38: happy my videos can be of some use!

  • I've always loved the jet sound going from right to left at the end. hehe

  • as a guitar player, i always aspired to be the BASS MAN-i think we strummers need to re think our intentions-great take on a beautifull song!- love the fret less!

  • I love fretless bass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • musicman rocks!

  • Well done.

  • cool!!!!

  • Excellent!

  • Perfect.

    No other words.

  • LOOOOOOOOVE THIS SONG

why didn't you let it play out? (I mean the song hadn't finished when you stopped playing) None the less, EXCELLENT

  • no words... this bass line is absolutely amazing... takes my heart to another level.. congratssss.. makes me remember many girlfriends that have gone away.. jajaja..

  • Very nicely done!

  • I am not sure why my comment are not being posted. I just tried to let you know that I did the entire song on guitar including the bass (nothing like a real bass but still a try). have a listen and feel free to comment too. search for yahiamaglad on youtube.

  • God bless you my friend. That's just brilliant!

  • see...this guy knows what he is doing...for some they see jaco as the fretless player..and good he was but he was before my time..in 84 pino played don henlys sunset grill..and then on paul young's no parlez he played this song(everytime you go away) and the other stand out song was(come back in stay)...that was the year i took up bass and cello..i was 12 years old that summer..im 37 this year..still playing bass..so many things in life i get bored with but for me bass is a giving tree

  • @sprintbass Do you remember Paul Youngs I'm gonna tear your play house down ??? or Then there's pino on Dave Gilmoure":s 2nd solo album a tune called Murder !!I Just put a lace bass bar pick up in my M.T.D. fretless 5 Ripper sound Now I have to nail this song like this guy did !!! I hope MUSIC IS MAGIC ...THAT STUFF OF SYNCOPATION...

  • @zappaz1 hey

yeah ive got all that too...but i didnt recall hearing (playhouse) in usa...in summer 84 i was in UK and i heard it then and i had somne one mail me the (record) lol i see it charted in usa but i grew up in a little tiny town so that could be part of that...i moved to a bigger one thank god lol

    D

  • Great job!!

    Five stars!!

  • great!

  • Good! Sounds so much better on fretless

  • Good, good!

  • wow, nice, fretless just sounds so 'creamy' PIno is a bass god, your cover is great

  • I play the guitar but this video has made me appreciate (1) the bass; (2) Pino; and (3) your playing. Must have heard this song a hundred times, but never paid attention to what was going on underneath before. Fantastic.

  • sick, dude. Pino kills it and so do you.

  • incredible

  • Yeah, I have flats on my Squire VM and it' s not sounding great. I' m afraid to use anything else for it might ruin the fretboard.

I was also told to use a halfrounds so I can have the growl I want.

  • Yep, I think it's a reasonable choice.

On the 6 strings I use rounds but it's got a phenol resin fretboard so I'm not worried to carve it.

  • I felt the same way at oen time

but I realized that tone will always win over protecting my fingerboard so I went to Rotosound rounds on my fretless. Rotosounds are probably the most unforgiving strings on frets let alone fretless boards but the sound is amazing.Fretless fingerboards are going to get marks no matter what unless you get them professionally epoxied

  • The ebanol can stand up to roundwounds pretty well. And if the time comes, just lacquer the fretboard. Easy process, pretty cheap, and it helps a lot.

  • You know what? The bass is still 100% original so I want to preserve it as long as possible.

  • I was referring the the person asking about the Squier fretless. Definitely dont go and do anything to this Sabre! Its too perfect! Sorry for the miscommunication!

Great cover, by the way. Like always.

  • Great playing and great bass guitar. Thanks for posting this song. :)

What kind of strings you got on?

  • Thanks mate (as regards rhe bass I definitely agree)!

I'm using D'Addario Half Rounds to be less aggressive towards the fretboard (I don't like how the flats feel under my fingers).

  • The half rounds aren't chewing-up the fretboard too much? Also, think they'd sound okay on a jazz bass?

  • To tell you the truth, this is not the bass I play the more so I can't say what would happen with an intensive activity. I still think they're a good compromise between sound, feel and care.

  • Sei bravissimo: you're very good!

  • Excellent stuff! I've always loved this version of the song. Pino is amazing, his phrasing and soul make this a truly unique bass line. Your technique is great.

  • As regards Pino you 're absolutely right. As for me, thank you for the apreciation.

  • Well , YOU ARE Pino Palladino :)

  • Sono italiano!!! Ti ringrazio ma non vorrei che il vero Pino Palladino si offendesse di questi paragoni!

  • Potevi anche dirmelo prima, avrei evitato di sfoggiare il mio inglese... eheheh. Comunque davvero complimenti!

  • Nice job ato71! Your playing sounds good and I dig your frettless bass!

  • hey bro are you using a different tuning??

  • Nope... why?

  • idk just seems like you play it different cause i have a frettless book and it has this song on there idk i think i just might be tripping ha ha but good job dude you rock :)

  • does anyone have a tab for this song?? .. i cant find its bass tab in the net...^^

  • respect!

  • Nice, from a bass player.

  • Dude, you absolutely rock! It takes amazing talent to play a fretless bass!

  • So you are human (2:56) lol. Seriously though I enjoy your work. Wonderful.

  • Thanks my friend for the apreciation!

  • Very nice but you need to play with more vigor and tightness.

  • bella!

  • Nice stuff, friend, love your axe!!!!!!

  • Ok that was amazing.

  • incredible song...incredible bassline...incredible player :)

one of my most fave songs of the 80's and i always admired its bassline (being a drummer myself)

  • thnx man i learnd a lot from this vid

  • Wow, thanks to you my friend: that makes me happy!

  • Applause.Applause.Applause!

    Amacingly well playd.

  • Fretless sounds so great!!! I love to bottom. Well done mate.

  • Sounds fantastic, I actually first heard of Pino on the track "ghetto heaven" by Common, his line on there is very cool. Have you heard it?

  • sorry, it's "ghetto heaven part 2", part one is not as good!

  • Wow!! That´s not Bass playing!!! Pure emotions...that´s it!!! Great!!! :-)

  • Thanks mate! Very much apreciated.

  • nice

  • I never practiced Give Blood but it's a really interesting line: think I'll give it a try.

  • Imo the results is more than excellent!! That's a nice attitude you have there.

Keep on your good work. I love watching you play :)

  • Thanks rath72, I apreciate.

  • Wow, it looks so easy....

  • It only looks: I've been practicing this song for more than 20 years and I'm not satisfied with the results yet!

  • Great fretless control.

  • ohhh i see that your bass don't have frets, now i understand the special sound of your interpretation.

    best regards bro!

  • i see this video and i enjoy every time, thanks for the class M A S S S S S S S T E R

  • A big thanks to you for the apreciation!

  • I've been watching your vids for about a half-hour now. You are sick. POST MORE! That Kajagoogoo vid was insane. Ever thought about joining an on-line band? I have some tunes that could use your expertise.

  • My job doesn't leave me enough time to record and post lots of videos... anyway, thanks a lot, even though maybe you're overestimating me a bit!

  • And you're being modest. Cut it out.

  • Bravo! Pulito e fedele alla bassline del grande Pino Palladino. Complimenti :)

  • Grazie Arde (finalmente un po' di italiano)!

    CHeers from Lima - Peru

  • Thanksm mate!

    Greetings from Genoa - Italy

  • Great work dude!

Great sound and touch. (Pino rules!)

    Well Done!,

    Greetings,

  • Thanks, I apreciate!

  • PINOTASTIC !!

  • Alessio,

Once again, YOU NAILED IT! This song I know well. I still have my Fender Fretless P bass but it's shot. I haven't played this song in years, though. GREAT JOB man. GREAT JOB! Pino is probably THEE finest bass player in Rock and Roll and one of the most prolific too!

  • Thanks again for the apreciation! I adore Pino Palladino, most of all his early lines because they got me started playing the fretless in the mid 80s.... but I'm starting to feel like studying the John Mayer Trio stuff.

  • Jaco gave me all my inspiration for fretless in the 70's and 80's. I've since stopped playing the fretless - going to pick it up again as soon as I could afford a decent fretless! Anyway, I didn't stumble upon Pino until the mid 80's when I heard that song "Lady in Red" from Chris DeBurgh. Another UNBELIEVABLE bassline! Once again, you're awesome, bro!

  • For me the sparkle has been the intro of Wherever I Lay my Hat (it still gives me the goose pimples).

  • hi guys , anyone has tabs on this song?

  • I used to have a fretless stingray, watching these amazing videos makes me want to buy one all over again!

  • You mean you had a pre ernie fretless stingray and you sold it?!?

  • Nah, mine was an Ernie Ball, still had that beautiful 'mwah' sound though. I just never played it enough, I have a Custom Classic Jazz now which i live to bits. Would really like a double bass but dont know where to start.

  • Excellent!! Even with that bum note before the solo, it only proves that you were really playing it. I suppose you worked out the lines by ear and not from tab. Keep up the good work.

  • Thank you, also for your consideration about the mistake! Yep, all by ear (I'm quite trained 'cause I hardly read tabs). Anyway, I never found any tab by Palladino

  • Maybe you should start by making the tabs yourself :-). I'd like to be in a band with you

  • Wow Really Nice cover !

    Need the tab too :p

  • I say again...nice intonation^^

  • hey sir i need the chords for the song, would you happen to know it? thanks!

  • Hi miko,

actually I play by heart so I never wrote them down.

  • Hi,

Sorry. I pushed on the 3 stars and not on the 5 stars. I would like to vote with 5 stars :-((.

Well, I am trying to play this song seeing your video and is very difficult. I think tha one day I will play it ;-).

Thanks a lot for yours videos, great job!!! and sory for my bad English.

  • No problem!

I try to do my best playing the lines I like (especially Pino Palladino's, my myth).

  • god i love that sound!

  • Nice job. I never realized how intricate some of those fretless runs are in that song!

  • excellent job!! sounds sooooo smooth. awesome looking (and sounding) bass too!

  • Sounds great, always loved the basslines of Pino...

  • It's great!Bravo!

  • great, just great

  • Grandissimo!!!!

  • you are a master!!!

  • Nice job on the fretless! Sounds great! Manson

  • Looks fun.

  • Is that a fretless bass.

  • thanks mate! on my way to learning this song :)

  • sir what effects are you using? i heard some Chorus there is it?

  • Actually no effects. I think the impression comes from the sound of the original line in the background (even if you cut the lows you can't eliminate it) but I can tell you that the sound of the bass is really like you hear it in the video.

  • Thanks for posting this. I have been wanting to play this song myself for a long time, but never got around to it. Now you've got me started, great!

  • good job. this is a very underated bass line. pino is a monster.
