@pntztz It's more of an illusion, because I grinded the Olives before starting to record my run. Usually, when we begin the game, the hero comes is not already on the floor, but I was already on the floor. All I had to do was to make sure I'd start playing and recording when music restarts and that's how I made that illusion look as if I started with 99 Olives. ;)
@HalDanGhor you know there's a little part of you that's kicking yourself because it was so close to being a perfect run, but good job! You must eat live and breath this game
@tobo86 Ha! Ha! No, I am not eating live. Just remember that I did every 12 parts separatedly. So, I could practice each of them and make sure to do a run I was satisfied with, because I don't like being hit too much by monsters. ;)
@HalDanGhor thanks for the clear up, punctuation police. If you're a fan of these sidescrollers like I am, you probably also like Zelda 2 and Faxanadu. Gold, silver and bronze order? I couldn't decide
yeah best game ever it was so fuckin unbelievable hard game especially 4 me bcause i am from germany yeah i´ll gona play it rigth now with maxxx sound´s on just need to configure my fuckn gamepad!!!!!wohho!!!!i´´ll have to get the gameboy version on real gameboy ...man this would be imba!!!!so long happy playing yeah NES ROXXX´s°!!!!°sry 4 my bäääd english grezz from upper swabian!!!!or smth like that^^!!!xDDx iks deh
I remember seeing the commercials for this before it came out. I remember paying $50 for it at the K.B. toy store in the lehigh valley mall. I remember bringing it home, playing it for 10 minutes and having a horrible pit in my stomach for the next 20 years because the game is so hard and I just wanted to cry.
intresting looking pretty much a mixture of zelda II and simon's quest i think this game would be a worthy auddition to the wii virtual console catalouge
I never played this game, but it reminds me a lot of Zelda II, Faxandu, and Simon's Quest. :D I am such a sucker for these types of games, but they really are terrific! Metroid and Symphony of the Night are also great none linear side scrollers, but you're always inside a single giant Castle, or alone in a savage planet with no towns and people to encounter.
Hey Cool one of the Greatest Games me & my friends always love to this Day! ..I Subbed feeling the Playthrough never could Beat it. Always got to the End Level but, would fall short of the Ending . Thanks for the Tips!
holy shit, nostalgasm, played it at the age of 6-8 or so. and because im from germany i coulden't understand anything (like many other games i played), but i love this game! did you ever considered a speedrun? because there isn't one on SDA :>
@kouron Never considered a speed run though. It's mainly because I don't believe in speed runs. I prefer playing at a good and normal speed, but it is not interesting to me to try to make every move almost perfect not to lose any time here and there. My main goal with games is to finish them and have fun too. ;)
@HalDanGhor Just One Question how did you get 99 olives so often? You pick them up after each upload or use code for them? Regardless I love this game very nostalgic and you are amazing at it :)
@TheCrow2165 No need for codes, really. That's not my style. Everything you see in my vids is legit. I grinded them between some of my vids, so the viewers would have a complete game in less time, not having to endure repeatable fights with "no name" monsters. Ha! Ha! If you ever see my Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest run, you'll notice that I also did the same trick between my vids, and organized the day time to be at my advantage, so I would not wait daylight to enter doors in towns. ;)
@TheCrow2165 Thank you very much by the way! Also, there is 2-3 good places to get Olives. I go in the Salamanders Nest, or near the fountains in Attica, or in Laconia in the lower right part. When olives become rarer, just leave town and come back. It kinda seems to increase the drops once you get back! Grinding 99 Olives is very easy and quick. If you know about Lineage 2, it can take you a few weeks to level up from level 79 to 80 if you play 5 hours a day... So, 99 Olives is nothing. ;)
This is awesome! I like when people just run throught the game and don't talk and ruin the soundtrack. I just wished we could have seen the intro. But still this is awesome! Nice work!
malathis0. It looks like Zelda for a reason - it's built on the same engine, it was so expensive to develop stuff back then. Today any high school kid with a pc can do it
Great game, My fith favorate game on the NES. and thanks, I did need help eith beating that damn snake lady thing, none of the walkthroughs I tried helped.
@HalDanGhor war doch nur spaß ^^ das spiel war sogar eines meiner ersten NES games :D der urvater von god of war sozusagen ^^ aber sehr cooles game :D
I don't remember a single thing about this game except borrowing from a friend when I was like 9 and loving it...then I gave it back to him and I moved to a new state and never thought about it again...it's awesome to relive it haha
I fought before beginning to record this run. I got 99 Olives and 20 Salamander Skins in order to save time for the viewers to enjoy more my non-stop action. ;)
One time I did that as well and my sister, little as she was, put a knife in our electric toaster which caust a short circuit shutting all the power down in our house including the NES I was playing before I saved my 99 olives haha. Boy was I an angry kid back then. My sister got a shock but she was all right :).
I just bought this on Ebay in near mint for 6$....oddly i've never played it, but heard from a couple folks it's an disregarded gem for the fact it looks a little like a zelda rip-off.
That's only because they didn't have the patience to get them. It's really easy to get 99. BUT: There is a trick for this one! I just discovered it with luck! i used to play this all the time when i was a kid... i tried it twice on an emulator yesterday and today, and still remember exactly what to do, but by the time i reach pythia and need 70 olives for the damn sword, i get frustrated cuz it's too fu**in hard to save up and NOT die and lose HALF your damn olives before getting there.
Since i was only able to beat this game once in my life, i figured i'd just see a playthrough...
Another thing. If you keep dying often when getting Olives... You just have to go see a God and talk to him to somehow "save" your (for exemple) 50 olives . So, if you die with 60 Olives, just use "Retry". So, instead of starting back with (60/2) 30 Olives, you'll start with your previous "saved! 50 olives! dude, you're maxed out on olives at the onset of the game, and twice more upon entering a new township.

That's only because they didn't have the patience to get them. It's really easy to get 99. BUT: There is a trick for this one! I just discovered it with luck! I usually get my Olives in Attica, near the fountain that restores our HP, usinf the Staff of Fenneland its Fire Magic. As soon as I get 60-70 Olives, at the point they bocome very rare, I just leave the town and come back, and they will drop at an excellent rate! It's real fast and really easy! I cut the grinding, and people love it! ;)
