@enigma19833 If you've read the book. If you haven't finished it, it might actually be a little confusing, which was the case for me. When i've finished the book, I could recognize almost all scenes from the trailer.
I watched the original sweedish version with subs, then i watched this one locally and imo this one was a lot better, personal preference either way i enjoyed both movies and i will watch the trilogy=)
If Noomi Rapace was any better than Rooney Mara's portrayal of Lisbeth Salander then she would have gotten the Oscar nomination for best actress, which by the way, the Oscars do recognise foreign actors if and only if they are good. Congratulations Rooney!
--- Quite annoying that there allready EXIST a Swedish film - or actually three - and then the Americans couldn't show that in the US with dubbing as they usually do - but had to make ANOTHER trilogy, filmed here in Uppsala and other places in Sweden, with a lot of swedish actors talking english! Ridiculous!!
@groovygavin254 - Haven't seen it yet, so I cannot comment on how good (or bad) it is - I just think it is ridiculous! Can I possible have a personal opinion before someone tells me I'm bitching??
I love love loved this movie!! Rooney Mara for oscar worthy performance. The storyline, the intensity and just every detail of this film is amazing. Daniel craig is also hands down amazing. I don't know why people didn't find this movie appealing, maybe since it was too violent and intense for them, but if they had read the books which depicts it, they'd understand it without criticizing the movie.
Watched it earlier tonight. It was bloody brilliant! I haven't seen the Swedish ones, but I honestly can't imagine them being any better than this. Tremendous movie.
Daniel Craig plays this role well but this is not the original character. He plays Daniel Craig, the same badass from 007 and i just don't like it in this particular situation.
I'm no guru when it comes to movies, but if there's one thing my friends have taught me is good movies are built on the foundation of great directors. David Fincher, personally, makes a lot of movies who's stories don't appeal to me. But every film I've watched by him, most of the time not knowing he directed them, draws me in. Zodiac didn't appeal to me. Saw the 1st 2 minutes, 2 hours later I was angry for not seeing it in the theater. GWTDT is another masterpiece.
@cain2335 I thought this was way better than the original, even though the original was excellent. This had much better character development, much more intense and climactic, and Oscar-worthy acting (especially from Rooney Mara).
Movie is good....but...very LOOOOOOONNNNGGG! Music by Reznor is gimmicky and a rip off of Led Zep. Expected better from the EX rocker. Lisbeth's motorcycle is a lame primer coated Honda 350 scrambler...she should be riding a 400 Four instead....a much better choice for her character or ideally a Triumph 650 or Norton 750, but she probably couldn't handle either one. Lisbeth's are everywhere, just go to NYC "village" or San Francisco....no big deal.
@3117ss The opening song was a COVER of Led Zep. Not a "rip off". That's the only instance that Reznor's score even remotely resembled LZ's music. And, as stated in the book, she bought that bike because it's all she could afford, not because it suited her personality.
@aznpimp911 Dude its incredible. I didnt think much of it or the previews when i first saw them, but when i went to see it last night I freekin loved it. One of the best movies ive ever seen
@aznpimp911 I saw it twice, and I'm gunna see it a third time next week. It's EXCELLENT!!!!!! Oscar-worthy acting, great and deep story, intense and suspenseful....the best film of the year, hands down.
once again, this is not a remake. both the swedish film and the american film were green-lit at the same time, this one just took longer to make for various reasons. be grateful that we get two great interpretations of the same story.
@GothEvilButterfly91 Haha! You're right. I did realize that. But, you know, he said that she disappeared after 40 years. So that's something we DO know that doesn't spoil the plot...
@GothEvilButterfly91 I just saw the movie up close and personal in NYC. For a while I thought she even was Harriet. Of course, she is not but that realization as I was watching the movie made me that much more intrigued with Rooney Mara's entire performance throughout, even with the end where she plays the socialite in Switzerland. I loved her nuanced punk nerdy genius. It was utterly captivating and I loved everything about her, especially her tharted ardor for Michael. I will see it again.
@GothEvilButterfly91 : That, I think, was just another mind trick by David Fincher (like in Fight Club, you subliminally see Tyller Durten appear in mili-seconds during the film, indicating well... you know what).
Actually, while looking at the movie, my friends and I thought Lisabeth was Harriet for more than half of it; then we noticed that the real Harriet should be much older and finally were mindblown by the ending.
I'll say this again: NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO WATCH THIS! Get that dick out your ass and chill out. Seriously. It's a movie. Yeah, I've read the books and have seen the Swedish versions on Netflix and they're good, no doubt. But that doesn't mean you guys have to slam this movie. So far, it's one of the best reviewed movies of 2011, so give it a chance if you're gonna watch the trailer and cry like a 12 year-old on here.
I've never read the book or seen the original film, but I feel like this trailer pretty much tells the plot of the movie... more so than other trailers. That being said, I still want to see the movie : )
Why is it called 'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' instead of the original title 'Men Who Hate Women'? A huge disservice to Stig Larssons book. That and the fake Swedish accents.
This is not a trailer: this is a digest of the entire story. Too much information. Imagine you were new to this and wanted to see Fincher's film cold.
Plus, the Swedish films were made by a competent but pedestrian director: not Ingmar Bergman. Fincher is a GREAT director: The Social Network and Zodiac have proved that.
Went to the screening in LA last night. BRILLIANT FILM!!! It followed the book so well, and was far more dark, grittier, graphic, etc. than the Swedish film. Loved it!
More of Hollywood's plagiarized lame ass crap. No wonder ticket sales decline by almost 3% year after year. The original was pretty good and Noomi Rapace is a brilliant young actress.
I'm so damn excited to see this one.....When i imagined my version of Mikael Blomkvist while reading the books, ironically I always thought of Daniel Craig....
is david fincher trying to give the whole movie away with this trailer. I mean really trailers these days. I miss the old trailer when they started in a world there was a man who met a woman something like that. I understand that some people are wondering what they are getting now a days because movies suck but I am very dissapointed in the length of the trailer not good. That being said I hope this is the movie that gets david fincher what he deserves which is a oscar he was robbed last year
Halfway done with the last book in the trilogy. The series is amazing, and I'm really excited to see lisbeth in this version. David Fincher did an outstanding job with The Social Network, and this looks very promising
The Swedish movies were ok -- but they left out lots of major stuff which made the nuances of the story in the books - it was the stuff that kept you reading through about 1500 pages -- I hope this version has more of the character developments than the Swedish one -- I also hope they go ahead and get all three movies in the can and don't do the once a year release thing -- that will make for a long wait for those that have been following this the last 6 or 7 years
Im a 15 year old male teen im reading it now but everybody says this book is a girl book and only for girls is it? If its not can someone tell me so i can explain to them.
I haven't seen the original (Swedish) verision of the film with Naomi Rapace but from the few tidbits I've seen of it I thought she was way too pretty and put together looking and Mara looks like the been-through-the-ringer version of lisbeth I had in my head and Blomkvist was, frankly, too old and unattractive. I'm not saying he has to been totally hot but with all the action the character gets he's got to have something going for him.
I'll definitely see this and maybe rent the original...
@wompasdub Panic Room wasn't as sappy or contrived as Benjamin Button. I liked it, and I just got back from Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's easily one of his best.
this lisbeth doesn't look as good, character-wise.. just doesnt do it for me. she was such a major part of the books/movies for me, i dont know if i can watch this.
The problem with all of you who say over and over that it couldn't possibly be better than the book-of course it can't. The fact is nothing can be better than the images deep within your mind as your reading word for word, page by page but what you must understand is that while a great deal of novels made into film have been turned into complete bull it solely depends on the director and Fincher, with the help of his screenwriters know exactly how to bring a story to the silver screen :]
I have never read the book but saw the original movie. Didn't care for it. It left me kind of sitting there bored and confused. As if it were the original Hulk movie. Not enough back story. You're just suppose to know all about it, like you know the whole history.
The Swedish version is awful. The story is rather decent and easy translatable to film. But the directing. . the look of it. . the acting. . the music. It was all rather bad.
But I'm looking forward to this from a purely aesthetic standpoint. I've read the novel and found it rather good even though the mystery and it's revelations I found to be a bit eh. So I'm looking forward to this
after you watched the original movie which is btw ten times better, this looks like a Chinese forgery. Hollywood is just a shit producing, copycat idea lacking conveyor . Nuff said
@thegateoftruth3 Fincher has a serious lack of imagination. He doesn't even write his own scripts. And the projects he does direct now are conventional to say the least. A movie about Facebook, and now a movie about a movie that was based on a book. Wow. Fincher is a fucking hack.
The Swedish version was not true to the book. Fincher tried to stay as true to the book as possible. Therefor the American version is not a remake of the Swedish film. There. Done. Now everyone can shut the fuck up and wait for the film to come out. I'm sure there won't be much debate on which is the better film then.
@somewherealongtheway The original was as true to the book as it could be without being 9 hours long. This trailer shows Salander as some kind of nymphomaniac, and that is not Salander. Also, he is probably going to use the Anita/Harriet plot aspect, instead of Cecilia, because in the book Harriet's hair is black.
@Morphindel The Swedish version wasn't true to the book at all! They changed hella lot! I don't know what is wrong with you people who claimed they read the book and say that the film was "totally true" to the book. Firstly, Noomi doesn't fit the description of Lisbeth who is suppose to look pale anorexic teenager, not a healthy sexy woman-ish looks. And this trailer had shown lots of scenes from the book that weren't even in the Swedish film. Even Stieg's partner Eva dislike the Swedish movie!
@LoraineMillie Like i said, without being really long the original as as close as it can be. They had to sacrifice the backstory of the family to fit in the crime-solving side of it, and that is the essence of the book. I don't want to see half an hour of Mikail investigating Wernnstrom, or Vanger running Millenium; i want the meat of the story, which it delivered. Noomi looks fine, and its only her physical size that makes her inaccurate. She isn't described as looking like a lobotomy patient
@LoraineMillie I am interested in Finchers take though, there is a lot of territory unexplored in the original, and i will like to see Fincher come at it from a different angle. So long as Salander isn't destroyed by being too 'sexual' i'll be happy. Rapace was definitely not quite angry enough for the character.
@somewherealongtheway The Swedish version is the authentic one. I know subtitles can be annoying for English speakers, but the original books and movies, in their original language are not adulterated like the block buster versions tend to be.
@somewherealongtheway : From what I've read Fincher made a dramatic change to an important plot element in the book (the article didn't specify what element). I loved the books and liked the original movies. I also love Fincher's stuff and I can't wait for this. The books were good, but they weren't perfect. If the book needed changes (and what book doesn't, if only to adjust to the film medium?), I trust Fincher made intelligent choices.
@somewherealongtheway The Swedish version was as true to the book as any film adaptation of a six hundred page book could reasonably be expected to be, and you're only basing that assertion on what you've heard about the movie. It looks like an especially ridiculous claim given that the trailer contains at least one line (the "he pleasures her" one) which isn't in the book and which the character would never say.
@ebolamunkee you have absolutely no idea what the character would or wouldn't say...they aren't real and you don't personally know them. the quality of a movie isn't defined by how much of a carbon copy it is of a book...that is the absolute worst way to judge a movie. i don' t give a shit about the books or the swedish film...remaking a story is no different than doing a cover for a song...and there are plenty of covers that have their own style and are better than the original
I am so excited for this to come out. I saw the original and fell in love with everything about the story, the actors, the tragedy. I hope David Fincher will do justice to the story, or even better, make it even more phenomenal. Regardless, I don't think they could of picked a better actress to try to fill the shoes Noomi Rapace. I'm sure Rooney Mara will be outstanding and nominated for plenty of awards just by what I have seen in the trailer. I am sure, this will be life changing.
I like how people are saying she's "too tall for the role . . . Rapace was a better fit" Last I checked, Lisbeth Salander was just under 5 ft, Noomi Rapace is 5'4 1/2, and Rooney Mara is 5'3. Wonder who fits better? Not that it matters anyway. I'm just excited to see my favorite character come back to life on the big screen :D
This looks so good. I'm reading the book.

If its not can someone tell me so i can explain to them.
iverthy30 3 months ago
@iverthy30 It's not at all :) It's a great mystery thriller, and if you're reading it at 15 then your friends should be impressed!!

@pblyth09 I thought so lol but im almost done with the book im on page 396 but its amazing!!! Cant wait to see the movie.

No, you people are right, David Fincher doesn't know what he's doing.

It wasn't a bad movie, just not in the same category as the others I think.

@zofspade You forgot The Curious Case of Benjamin Button!

@zofspade
You forgot 'Benjamin Button', 'The Game' and even 'Alien 3'. All good films. 'Panic Room' is his one film that actually sucks.
KillSwitch2 2 months ago
@zofspade panic room sucked ass
wompasdub 2 months ago
@wompasdub Panic Room wasn't as sappy or contrived as Benjamin Button. I liked it, and I just got back from Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's easily one of his best.
zofspade 2 months ago
@zofspade or...perhaps there's a pattern to his films and he's trying to make a message with all the films...but what's the message?....
Seven will Fight in a Panic Room when the Zodiac symbols match with the numbers of the people who use the Social Network?

This movie's in good hands. Quit your bitching

Ya'll are fighting over which is better...
First of all none of you have seen this "American" version so stfu saying it "won't be good".
Secondly what is original? Does it matter?
If you don't think you will like this film then don't watch it! Simple as that.

Whats with these 4 minute long trailers? They show condensed versions of every damn scene.

@achaserofrocks the movie is over 150 minutes long, I'm pretty sure it doesn't spoil anything.

I'm Swedish and thought the originals were bad. I think this will come out better, mostly due to Fincher.

As much as I'm looking forward to the movie, I still prefer Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth Salander. But let's see :)

Much like the Tron sequel. If you have not seen the original you are kind of lost.
gnatsue01 3 months ago
I have never read the book but saw the original movie. Didn't care for it. It left me kind of sitting there bored and confused. As if it were the original Hulk movie. Not enough back story. You're just suppose to know all about it, like you know the whole history.

David Fincher said the movie will be 3 hours! I can't wait, looks really close to the book!
Dumuify 3 months ago
The Swedish version is awful. The story is rather decent and easy translatable to film. But the directing. . the look of it. . the acting. . the music. It was all rather bad.
But I'm looking forward to this from a purely aesthetic standpoint. I've read the novel and found it rather good even though the mystery and it's revelations I found to be a bit eh. So I'm looking forward to this

after you watched the original movie which is btw ten times better, this looks like a Chinese forgery. Hollywood is just a shit producing, copycat idea lacking conveyor . Nuff said

thegateoftruth3 4 months ago
@thegateoftruth3 Fincher has a serious lack of imagination. He doesn't even write his own scripts. And the projects he does direct now are conventional to say the least. A movie about Facebook, and now a movie about a movie that was based on a book. Wow. Fincher is a fucking hack.
peteagassi 4 months ago
Thank god Fincher has a new movie this year...
Rowenet 4 months ago 3
The Swedish version was not true to the book. Fincher tried to stay as true to the book as possible. Therefor the American version is not a remake of the Swedish film. There. Done. Now everyone can shut the fuck up and wait for the film to come out. I'm sure there won't be much debate on which is the better film then.
somewherealongtheway 4 months ago 53
@somewherealongtheway The original was as true to the book as it could be without being 9 hours long. This trailer shows Salander as some kind of nymphomaniac, and that is not Salander. Also, he is probably going to use the Anita/Harriet plot aspect, instead of Cecilia, because in the book Harriet's hair is black.
Morphindel 3 months ago
@Morphindel The Swedish version wasn't true to the book at all! They changed hella lot! I don't know what is wrong with you people who claimed they read the book and say that the film was "totally true" to the book. Firstly, Noomi doesn't fit the description of Lisbeth who is suppose to look pale anorexic teenager, not a healthy sexy woman-ish looks. And this trailer had shown lots of scenes from the book that weren't even in the Swedish film. Even Stieg's partner Eva dislike the Swedish movie!
LoraineMillie 3 months ago
@LoraineMillie Like i said, without being really long the original as as close as it can be. They had to sacrifice the backstory of the family to fit in the crime-solving side of it, and that is the essence of the book. I don't want to see half an hour of Mikail investigating Wernnstrom, or Vanger running Millenium; i want the meat of the story, which it delivered. Noomi looks fine, and its only her physical size that makes her inaccurate. She isn't described as looking like a lobotomy patient
Morphindel 3 months ago
@LoraineMillie I am interested in Finchers take though, there is a lot of territory unexplored in the original, and i will like to see Fincher come at it from a different angle. So long as Salander isn't destroyed by being too 'sexual' i'll be happy. Rapace was definitely not quite angry enough for the character.
Morphindel 3 months ago
@somewherealongtheway I've never read the book, but I am considering reading it. That is a funny quote. I like your brashness.
So you are saying that the American remake actually will be necessary?
Divers1990 3 months ago
@somewherealongtheway completely agree-I don't like to give my hopes up but with Fincher, I know I'm not.
aarobinson89 3 months ago
@somewherealongtheway The Swedish version is the authentic one. I know subtitles can be annoying for English speakers, but the original books and movies, in their original language are not adulterated like the block buster versions tend to be.
megstertex 3 months ago
@somewherealongtheway : From what I've read Fincher made a dramatic change to an important plot element in the book (the article didn't specify what element). I loved the books and liked the original movies. I also love Fincher's stuff and I can't wait for this. The books were good, but they weren't perfect. If the book needed changes (and what book doesn't, if only to adjust to the film medium?), I trust Fincher made intelligent choices.
matthb63 3 months ago
@somewherealongtheway The Swedish version was as true to the book as any film adaptation of a six hundred page book could reasonably be expected to be, and you're only basing that assertion on what you've heard about the movie. It looks like an especially ridiculous claim given that the trailer contains at least one line (the "he pleasures her" one) which isn't in the book and which the character would never say.
ebolamunkee 2 months ago
