Oscar = lean mean eating machine. If it fits in their mouth they WILL eat it. Plus when they get about the size of a football their nice black/orange coloring turns to an ugly green/orange. Get ready for a very dirty tank if you keep oscars. African cichlids are much better in my opinion.

Oscars are extremely voracious eaters. They will eat pretty much anything that they can fit in their mouths. So... if you are thinking of putting fish in with an Oscar, you have to be very careful in your selections. Plecos are safe, but any fish which does not grow big will become food. I'm pretty sure you can put convicts in with oscars, and some other types of cichlids. However, best bet is to pick fish which are aggressive, not docile. Oscars are great though. Very intelligent and fun fish.

ALso i was thinking of putting tiger cray fish in there with him. The crayfish get 12- 14" big. As long as they have a place when they molt... do you think it would work or will he just be fish food. LOL let me kno what you think???

Hi, Sorry I dont get on Much, and i was surprised how many hits this video had. I have no idea, but honestly i dont think its a good idea, i had angelfish, tiger barbs, all types of fish with this oscar when he was a baby, then when it grew up one day all the other fish except my pleco was gone! Try to Google an Oscar Club Forum, theres tons of info on forums and online clubs!

@JeePnoY1 i had 2 oscars around 25+cm they where a couple, in a 900 liter aqa. i could had small other fish, mostly ciclides because they dont scare ass easy. no problem no eating. when i put new fish in around 2cm, these 2 oscars would go very near the fish just to look at it.. so funny. i even had one of those fresh water bubblefish, 3-4 cm, that would go and pick from the crawfish sticking out of the oscars mouth but i moved and one of the os died. then the other wouldnt eat for 3 mo and died

trust me a oscar fish can go a whole week without eating but if you dont feed him for a day or 2 he will eat whatever u put in there i do that when my fish get spoiled ..

you should watch out because when yor oscar refuses fish food its being stuborn because your giving him to much protein only feed him once a day and and feed him pellets only feed him fish and big shrimps and toads once a week i had to learn the hard way r.i.p squirt ..swim bladder is a bitch for oscars but the ones in my video i still have and are very healthy

oh man, thanks for the heads up. Hes stopped eating pellets/fish food after his 1st year.  for 2 years hes been eating nothing but these huge meal worms. Pet shop told me to starve him until he will eat pellets, i tried but I didnt follow through i spoiled him. Imma try again.

oh and it gets beaten up because there in a small enviorment depending on the size of tank if there alot of room the oscar wont be territorial but in a smaller tank hes going to fight for what little space he has i had 2 of my oscars in a 55 gallon and they were fighting on a daily basis moved them up to 75 gallon they were cool.

well actually what i did was build my tank i didnt have money to buy a 130 gallon tank so i went to the window store had them cut the glass measure correctly of course and bought aquarium silicone and waited 48 hours to let the silicone get hard been happy with my tank ever since..
