I love how this version includes more of the lyrics than most recordings: the verse, and alternative words to the chorus. It's a tremendously difficult song to sing, simply because it modulates all over the place, who can remember where it's headed next! (Well, Johnny Mathis for one, he's terrific!) But that quality of surprise also makes it so very appealing. Anyone who wants to sing it will have to work hard at learning the sequence of notes, but how richly rewarding. Thank you for posting it.
@GuinnevereB - thank you for this interesting information about the song- I will go back through it slowly and listen for the changes. Johnny is master at using the range and moderation of his voice- and more. You're very welcome. Enjoy.
@Puzzler4879 - Thank you for commenting! Interesting- I was just recalling creating this video a few days ago when my son was remarking on how beautiful Autumn is in NY. Enjoy:)
You're welcome. I don't think this song has been digitally remastered- yet-- although it might be on one of the new CDs re-issued this past year- i'll check it out. You'll find these on Johnny's website- they are LPs that have been paired into CDs. Worth owning.
Johnny Mathis was always such a daper dresser in the mid 50's and 60's the man was a real fashion plate, so empecable, on this album covers he is decked out in all black pants and black sweater.......cool always.
He has wonderful taste in clothes- whether it's suits, tuxes, or casual. Love his sense of style- so smooth and comfortable. Relates to his personality!
I'm really glad you like it- and that it 'soothes' the soul ~ I like the images that I imagine of New York in the early 60's: this recording, 'Breakfast at Tiffanys', etc.
Now you got me started......I have to pull out this LP and play it. Romantically.....I have not played this album in years! A great song from this LP.....The Sound of Music....I dont know how to put things on U tube..........so someone please put it on!
I found this through music someone downloaded for me. I will see if there is more from that LP on the site. I saw some comment on the web criticizing or chastising Sony for not recognizing Johnny's talents enough to re-release all these to CDs. Can someone help me understand if John owns JonMat records- doesn't that make him able to create these as well? I know Sony distributes them.
Thanks- so glad you like it! I've always loved this song- and this is the first time I"ve heard Johnny sing it. Although most of my passion is with his post 50's-60's work- (although all of that is wonderful as well)- I wanted to share this one in particular. Looking for the photos- both of John and related scenery is a 'labor of love'- I'm up to the wee hours- but never notice the clock.
Oh Lenore, this is one of my favorite songs and what a treat to hear my favorite singer do it. Those pictures you put up are fantastic, that man is so good looking. I'm glad we are getting to enjoy all of his charisma as a singer instead of an athlete. You do such a great job of timing the pics with the music, thanks for this. Great job there gal!!!
