  • The headphones are for previewing the next song your going to play, while one track is playing you can hear the next one your going to play privately without the crowd hearing it.

  • you are a mint teacher

i bought myself some decks today and your videos have helped massively

this is the first time i've watched this video and i realised that disco babes from outer space was my first record :D

  • your videos are an essential learning tool in getting down these basics... you've done an awesome job mate! p.s. i really want to know the name of the track on the right deck... has a funky vocal hook :P care to share?

  • SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! everytime i mix dnb i do what you say with the decreasing the tempo thing but i can never find the precise point where the records will stay at the same speed, so i have to keep adjustng the tempo. How do i know where that precise point is?

  • Keep practicing and you will get better and better.

  • im still having some lil trouble on that matching im on cdj 800 and a djm 800 thanks

  • i like the car explanation, i'm sure that will help me out, thanks dude

  • hi, just like to say i have ordered my decks and mixers:P and i think with ur help it will be much easyer:P many thanks

  • so basically, its a challenge to try and get the contradicting speeds to match?

  • Will you make a video for PC's to mix with?

  • Man i`m mixxing like 2 years but your vids helped me alot .... didn`t knew that u as a dj can mix 2 song onli with the pitch without + , - (the buttons underneath the pitch)

  • 27 times you sayd ok!!!

  • cant get my beat right because i dnt know witch ones going faster or slower

  • try using compleatly different beats like 1 snare and 1 with a bass?

  • Excellent stuff. I used to mix by recueing the record and pissing about with the platter; slowing it and stopping it. I picked up your method well, which is a lot better. Thanks.

  • you have hair ?

    haha

  • thanks bro this videos is amazing and it helped me a lot thanks once again

  • If I slept at your house, would have to use all those vinyls to keep warm lol?

  • is this true for cdj's too?

  • to braddahreid, basicaly the same principals apply to vinyl, cd and pc mixing, it's all about timing!

  • i cee

ya these vids are the best

if it wasn't for these vids i wouldn't ever learn how to mix

    thanks man

  • You are awesome...

I have never seen instruction vids who are so good explained like these ones.

This really helped me a lot and finally, I understand the basics of mixing music. Other vids show how to scratch and stuff, but these ones are perfect.

    Thank you very much!!!!

  • to rubvos3, thanks !! comments like this and people like you make me want to continue!! peace! j

  • I just invested a significant amount of money in to my equipment because I have always had a passion for music and DJing. I was so confused and thought that I made the worst investment of my life when I got my equipment. These videos have helped me dramatically its only been 3 hours since I watched your first video for beginners and I have already been able to actually make something sound good.

  • I cannot thank you enough for your hard work and dedication towards helping new DJ's get started along their musical paths. Again I would just like to say thank you and please continue your magnificent work. Very well dune and thank you so much.

  • thanks for all the tips much appreciated!

  • ok! m8.

  • can you tell me wht type of music is that and any good websites where i can prder sum from? wb plz

  • can't post urls, but search for juno or htfr (if you're in UK)

though i normally buy mine from ebay, you can get some nice collections of records that end up being really cheap. only trouble is you can end up with 2 of the same record...

  • to thetallguy123, it's known as funky house , try any good on line shop and ask! all the best j

  • ur one damn good instructor

  • poop

  • Superb tutorial mate..Thank you very much ..you've been a great help..cheers

  • Awesome tutorial ! Thanks a lot ;)

  • you are really helpful as usual, you make it seems so easy but indeed it`s quiet hard to get this sense of time and as you used to say the practice will do the rest.thanks johnathan you are truly a gifted dj...just and idea could you do a video in which you mix trance material...I`m into this kind of music and I`ll love to see you mastering and teaching how to create nice mixes in that particular style.

thanks again and stay safe and cool.

    cheers !!!!

  • I read the "car" explanation of beat-matching a while back. Your instruction is much more usefull. = )

  • tbh i actually rekon he could qualify to be a pro tutor lol if i woz as gud as that i wud use it to get munneeee, gr8 tutorin ;)

  • your talking bollocks mate! hahaha

  • WoW mad props to u sir for explaining things so well!!!! :) matt

  • OMG. DJ tutor!

man, you're the best. this just solved all my problems. i have successfully made my first mix. before watching your videos i was totaly lost. i watched this video and now it all came to me.

    thank you.

    you're the best.

  • Nice one!!! thanks for the gr8 comment!! johnathan dj tutor

  • riding the pitch

  • i mix hardcore and makina which plays up to 180bpm so this may be why. if u used your method the tunes would be all over the place with double beats. also for mixing makina you often have to start a tune and have it in the mix from the first push so theres no time to beat match using your method otherwise every1 who is listening could hear how bad it sounds.

  • i find its faster to get the tunes pitched if u give it a push or pull right at the beginning instead of moving the pitch up and down and having to wait for it to get in line.

  • i found the vids interesting and an alternative way to mix but ive never used this method until i already get the beats close.

  • Thanks for your comments!!!, I find through my experience that if you practice using any method you will get good at it, you seem to know your method very well so keep it up!! all the best Johnathan

  • Custo808... what kind of tables do you have?

  • Hey, technics mk 5, on deck one the cartridge is dragging slightly on the records, can that slow the platter down that much? My needles are bustid! Any recommendations on a good pair of needles? Nice 1

  • try altering ya weight & put ya tone arm higher to bout 3 nhalf ,,, it wouldnt slow down ya record tho,, stanton 500s are good n affordable iv been skratchin with mine for over a yr n there still goin on strong,,

  • Tried that, its worked. Nice 1 ;) What needles are you using on yr stantons? I watched the bpm vid earlier and that'll help me wivma pitch situation, am gonna spend the next couple of days counting bpms :P

  • iv got technics hedshells with stanton 500 carts n needle

  • cool. i heard the shure m447s r supposed to be the sh*t. may need to rely on christmas funds to get me some of those though!! thanks for responding a hepling out a fellow deej. must ask though, why looney as a name??

  • yer they are good but stantons are only bout 20 pound each most clubs iv played in have had them ,,, lol thats not my dj name i jus called it me on a pi**ed up day baffeld me self :D

  • Great vids! What happens with me is the tunes will be synced for a good few bars, after the breakdown they go slightly out again, to rectify, i'll make finer adjustments (which usually go out) or over compensate on the pitch at the beginning of the mix and the mix goes out at the beginning ARGGGH!!!

Is there a place on the pitch where both tunes will sync together perfectly throughout the mix? Can you possibly do a small film on fine tuning? It would be a great help!!!

    Keep up the good work!!

  • u gotta be jokin! iadvise u not to listen to this crap n learn ya self!

  • are you good enough to do a mix of michael jackson's thriller and billy jean or is this beyond your skills?

  • i asked this on another video. but im new here and dont know how to go back and check out the answer. But, can you post a video on dropping on the 1. i am confused about this

    thanks

  • AWESOME HELPED GREATLY!!! Couldnt agree more with *Renonymous*. You are like the MUSIC PROFFESSOR of YOUTUBE! "the car method" was explained so perfectly that when my mix goes off beat i say to myself, "damn the car must have passed me!"

    keep it up man!!

  • i cant wait to get my turntables to try this stuff out !!! again, great new movies !

  • Your method on beatmatching using ONLY the pitch control makes so much sense, i was able to beat match right away! Pushing the record and dragging the platter may look cool but it is not nearly as efficient. I feel like I have gained more experience in one day from watching your videos than in the entire 6 months I have been spinning! thank you!

  • ALL i CAN SAY IS THANKS!!

  • no no... thank you!

  • another informative video!!
