Wow, thank you for the positive comments! I'm surprised to hear Oakland has a lame scene, a lot of my favourite rappers are based there, not least of all Doseone, who I believe teaches a class at an Oakland uni on freestyle and battle rapping... i forgot how i came across black lantern's website, but thank god i did. and texture's stuff is mindblowing, and inspirational to say the least. really is the direction hip hop should be going. a synthesis of everything good about music and lyrics. people listen to shite hip hop in Oakland now, and if they were exposed to this raw outpouring of creativity like i've been lucky enough to have been, they wouldn't tolerate the shit they bump in there cars. thanks so much for "keepng shit real yo"

In addition to Scroobius and Saul Williams, I gotta ask have you checked out Riz MC, Akala, Lowkey, Mic Righteous...? Some fucking amazing underground hiphop out there, took me a while to realise but now I discover a cool artist on YouTube nearly every day :D

Some people prefer that kind of hip-hop - hence the success of Sage Francis, Saul Williams, Scroobius Pip etc internationally. So, thanks for your opinions, but frankly your attempt to belittle me with perjorative attacks on my education and background are fairly transparent. Are you a rapper? Lets see yours then.

I'm inspired by a tradition of (very good, sometimes successful) hip-hop from Edinburgh: Penpushers, Eaters, Yush2K, Underling, Profisee... the list goes on. These bands all have 'art' leanings, which I think is no bad thing.

I did not go to art school, nor did I go to public school. I attended a state school in Edinburgh after growing up in Buckingham, and did a degree in literature. I have always written poetry, and that poetry has always been *influenced* by hip-hop, although I would be unlikely to call myself a rapper - I don't freestyle, and I never battle.

Why the hand posturing? I'm sorry, but this is really embarrassing to true rap & hip-hop. It's public schoolboys trying too hard & this is why Edinburgh MC's can never be taken seriously. Thanks for that. There are actually some people in this town who are excellent artists, and it's shit like this that is holding them back by giving the city a bad name
