first cara, this dude is really good. and there are methods to producing such effect's. I can assure it is not the only you explained it. and good magic such as this is always based on performance. do you think for one moment that ppl think he is doing real magic. ppl know there is a method of doing it. but it's that suspension of disbelief that ppl love. anyways, that's all I got.
Id never heard of this man till tonight. Probably because I dont have a great knowledge of the greats and his language is not english. He is a brilliant magician.
@sixpence2011 Every time he puts it in the pocket, he simply brings it back out in finger palm and then adds it back into the cup with the second ball. Nothing too magical here! He's using 4 balls in total.
@sykregen784 What is beautiful about this? He just keeps dropping an extra ball back from his fingers with the second ball. The same thing every time.
It's so obvious, it is not magic and it is not beautiful.
Don't fall into the trap that because it is performed as magic it must be good. Magic is meant to mystify. There is good magic and poor magic.
@CaraBrimleyRules And you should be careful not to fall into to the trap that because you can figure it out, it's poor magic, because magic is more then just the method.
And what might be obvious to you isn't that obvious to most people, so please stop trying to get an ego boost in the comments of a youtubevideo. I'm sure you smarter then that.
And you make it sound like there's actually real magic....
@sykregen784 You're falling into the trap of the crowd when the Emperor came out with new clothes. Don't get carried along by the hype. Think laterally. Magicians have a habit of praising up anything that masquerades as a magical performance. You can be a better magician than that. Be discerning in what you praise.
You talk about the method being secondary in an effect which I agree 100% But the presentation was not good either. It is a public service to expose this sham... not an ego boost.
@CaraBrimleyRules Well I agree with you entirely when you say that you should be discerning in what you praise but that doesn't change the fact that I really enjoy most of René Lavands magic especially this piece, because it's simple, direct well done
That you view it differently I can do nothing about...(to be continued)
However, you do say that it is a public service to expose this sham, I cannot understand that someone who is interested in magic would express such an opinion. It is not a sham, it is the works of a great magician and to reveal some of it is an insult to the magician and to magic in general.
If you really like magic, then ignore the things you don't like and focus on the things you like.
@sykregen784 Well I prefer to be honest to myself. If I don't like it I say so. I don't beat around the bush to follow some brainwashing or invisible protocol. Say it as you feel it. Don't be told.
You clearly have a good knowledge in magic and probably perform quite well. But don't worry too much about exposure. It is a non issue, especially in these kind of comments where mostly magicians post anyway.
I have had many young magic students message me to thank me for helping with their magic.
@CaraBrimleyRules I agree with you that following some invisible protocol would be foolish, but the way I see it, I'm not, because even thought mainly magicians write on these pages, then writing something that exposes it will perhaps ruin for someone does not know the secret, that was my only quarrel with your comment.
Because I simply believe that magic talk should be contained to magic forums.
@sykregen784 Interesting comment about magic forums. Even there, the discussion tends to be limited, mostly because of the greed associated with currently marketed effects. These are old principles rebadged but there is a wish to hawk them to young magicians who may not know all this. Buying effects just to find the secret is a very bad idea, but a lot of it goes on.
If a layman reads my comments, I don't care. They are unlikely to be interested, understand, or even remember.
@maximilianitoaguirre Yes the art stands or falls on the art and elegance of the presentation I agree. I never disagreed with that or challenged that premise. I'm just explaining the method as a service to interested magic students watching and wanting to learn.
the simplicity of the trick's difficulty would be a demeaning factor, yet his own performance of such a simple trick is what is appealing about it and doesn't make it simple even tho theres a simplicity to it.....all of which is a concept he talks about in his trick ...lol this is what i like about the trick :)
@OpusMagnoCards Every time he puts it in the pocket, he simply brings it back out in finger palm and then adds it back into the cup with the second ball. Nothing too magical here! For the last phase he just pretends to add the balls to the cup while keeping them in finger palm to dump in his pocket. I can't believe you were taken in by this old routine!
@FreeCultureGuy His performance on World's Greatest Magic is good indeed. I still think Wonder and Rene are still the best, with Carney's routine deserving an honorable mention.
@sohailrahiq did you realise that every round is diferent no? by the way that video is from a magicians congress, in your way of thinking they all are retarded...
@ItsTurningGreen002 notice how he shows one ball in the cup to the camera, but never 2? also, notice how much closer his hand is to the cup when he's putting the 2nd ball in? when he's putting the 2nd ball in he also drops in the 3rd. and then tosses away the 3rd. also, it is known with this trick, that you have to have several balls or crumbs or whatever. not just 3. but he's so fast you can barely tell. very very good.
@joaoelchico but the ending is also simple, yet I could never do it with 1 hand. Rene is magic. He takes it from being just an art, to being real. Rene, I salute you!
@vladoz13 Since he throws a number of them away, he must also have had a little conveyor belt of many spare crumbs ready to be delivered, one at a time, multiple times. Where can I get one of those??
WOW...the Master himself...Mr. Lavand. His skill, naturalness and smoothness, is pure MAGICAL POETRY. Even though I perform this myself, I still LOVE to watch Mr. Lavand do it. NO one does it like him. Simple simple props, but POWERFUL MAGIC. A true MASTERPIECE! And if you liked this, then don't miss his "It Can't Be Done Any Slower".
@Freshman000000 that's what I figured, but them instead of the "third" one going in his pocket he throws them away....that's where I get amazed all over again.
holy crap! wasn't expecting you to respond.....umm idk you said it was OBVIOUS how he does it (i thoguht you meant he did a bad performance taht's why you could tell)... thats all. sry if i misunderstood :S
Lol. No, Lavand is awesome and I like his illusions very much. What I meant in the first place was that if you keep yourself focused you can tell how he's doing it. Either way it's still very impressive.
@mornegroth Maybe is obvious for magicians, but for lay people is just a miracle. I watched this, once with my family and once with friends, and no one had a clue. They were amazed.
