Some people are so ignorant. Being obese is a disease. Anyone who thinks you can eat yourself that big just is not educated enough to know that everybody is different and therefore the bodies are different in the way it processes food. Some obese people don't eat enough and this causes your body to maintain weight instead of losing it. I think it is great that this family is getting help. Not everything is about the almighty dollar.
I loved this show, I hope TLC brings it back instead of all the stupid stuff they have on right now. This was the sweetest family ever. I would love to see an update on how they're doing now.
400lbs for 2 people could be restricting to anybody, obese or not. Think about it, that's 200lbs per person. Depending on the height and age of the person, this could be a completely normal weight. I highly doubt this family is the only one that couldn't ride, and I'm sure there are couples that passed this weight restriction that were snickering at them that didn't bother looking at the sign because they figured they'd be fine.
This is horrible. How do people let themselves get that size. How do they let their CHILDREN get size? Norris a 41 year old male is 340 lbs weighs less than his 16 year old daughter. Am I the only one who sees a horrible problem with that?
Everyone bedridden and hospitalized from being overweight that wasn't caused by an outside factor should have 1 year to lose a substantial amount of weight. Otherwise they get the Gas Chamber.

The qualification for obesity begins around the late 100's depending on your height, so most people who qualify as obese aren't 600 pounds. The people you're railing against are in the extreme minority, even considering US obesity rates, which fits right in with your mentality of punishing minority groups, and they're typically very poor and uneducated, or they have some other condition compounding the issue...

Obesity of that magnitude is typically due to several factors working in unison, so you're punishing people based on an assumption that isn't even an educated one. If they didn't go to the hospital, they couldn't be diagnosed and treated, and I know you probably didn't have time to consider this with all this YOU going on, but treatment usually helps these people.

I watched the one episode where the girl broke the chair, it wasn't funny at all- it was just sad. So sad that my mom had to turn away from the channel, i say eat what you want to eat but dont over indulge. Ever once in a while eat a salad or a healthy dinner. my mom and i are on a diet challenge right now, we are both at good weight but just want to be healthier. for me its a bit hard cause i have mega sweet tooth but im still trying.

Just saw a video of this family on a TV show that was filmed about two weeks ago. Considering they filmed the reality show during the summer I did not see a whole lot of difference.
They were sitting up there claiming they had lost 50-60 pounds each but I just didn't believe it.
If you had been on a program of healtly foods and good exercise everyday (especially if you're in the 350 lb range) the weight loss in 6 mos should be dramatic.

The qualification for obesity begins around the late 100's depending on your height, so most people who qualify as obese aren't 600 pounds. The people you're railing against are in the extreme minority, even considering US obesity rates, which fits right in with your mentality of punishing minority groups, and they're typically very poor and uneducated, or they have some other condition compounding the issue...

Obesity of that magnitude is typically due to several factors working in unison, so you're punishing people based on an assumption that isn't even an educated one. If they didn't go to the hospital, they couldn't be diagnosed and treated, and I know you probably didn't have time to consider this with all this YOU going on, but treatment usually helps these people.

I watched the one episode where the girl broke the chair, it wasn't funny at all- it was just sad. So sad that my mom had to turn away from the channel, i say eat what you want to eat but dont over indulge. You're perfectly fine, just remember to exercise about 1 hour a day and eat healthy. Don't exercise for weight loss, just exercise because it's good for you.
Your weight and your height rarely ever have anything to do with your health, unless you're extremely emaciated or extremely obese.

Just saw a video of this family on a TV show that was filmed about two weeks ago. Considering they filmed the reality show during the summer I did not see a whole lot of difference.
They were sitting up there claiming they had lost 50-60 pounds each but I just didn't believe it.
If you had been on a program of healtly foods and good exercise everyday (especially if you're in the 350 lb range) the weight loss in 6 mos should be dramatic.

narutosama9 - have you actually watched the show? They are walking 45 minutes a day now as well as attempting to do other forms of exercise. So yes, they are getting out and trying to undo the damage of what their unhealthy lifestyle has caused. More than some people can say!

I saw some of this show for the first time the other night. It's one of the more dangerous reality shows. People now will do anything to get on reality TV. Why not have 350 pound kids?
I'll be honest here. The parents can do what they like but allowing these kids to get that large is a form of child abuse.

Boulderdawg how is it dangerous? They are not on TV because they are overweight. They are trying to LOSE weight ... the message here is that being obese is dangerous, that people who are overweight are human beings too, and that their struggle is not an easy one, but that it can be done.

Wow. Back in the day when I was a teen I weighed 179 lbs at 16 yrs and at 5'4" and was made fun of ruthlessly. Couldnt get a date for prom, etc... Man I was skinny compared to the kids today. I now weigh at 39 yrs 175 and get hit on like some cougar!!! Go figure!!! I am happily married btw.
