Holy crap, Jerry Rice is 49 years old and, if he wanted to, he could still be a great receiver. I would pick him as a good 3rd or 4th target, maybe second if my other receivers were really bad.
The problem is that a wide receiver is almost always on the move in a certain direction. Thus he cannot cover behind him, straight up, or to his left or right in a dead sprint while running a route. that is why QB's miss, he has to put the ball out in front of the WR and not too far to his left or right due to momentum. A WR never stands still like Chad did in the test, so it basically isn't relevant to the game. The range is still insane, I'd choose an elephant in a game situation though.
Check out John Brenkus’s new book The Perfection Point as the host and creator of "Sport Science" unveils the extremes of human performance as only he can do. It answers the questions: What’s the highest someone can dunk a basketball? What’s the fastest a human can run 100 meters? How far can someone drive a golf ball? It’s a must-have book for anyone interested in sports and you can pre-order it today at Amazon.com!
wow. after watching 5 videos, I must say: these guys on sport science have no idea how to conduct thorough tests properly. They take only one base case and they assume it to be true in different situations.
(in this they should also consider that the displacement when jump straight up is greater than the displacement when jumping for something to the side)
not fair. Randy Moss is like 6'4. yes he jumps high. but 6'4 will bring him over. 6'1 is a pretty good height to check out his vertical. i agree with nate robinson.
I Love this Video and also I checked out your Channel. Very interesting! If you need any help getting this Video and your Channel exposed to were it is top in all the search I found this site called tubeviews.(net) that has took my breath away. I'm working on my 4th Channel now, this one I just made. My Videos are getting so many hits now. Check it out and keep in touch.
i remember during summer workouts before we were allowed to wear pads it felt so easy to catch the ball, we all take it for granted once we got our pads however haha
@CptBulldog i understand what you are saying but i think they did it without pads on Ocho because all other sports doesn't wear any sort of pads like football does.
@cgarizona yup ... Chad Johnson's Vertical leap from the combine was "only" 33''. However we should note that NFL players have on avg (&max) much better Vert leap numbers than NBA players. MUCH better!! for example. The max standing vert in 2011 NBA combine is 36.5'', The Max standing vert from 2011 NFL combine is 42. Avg of top 10 NBA 2011 was 34.5 Avg of top 10 NFL was 41.05 since 2006 avg of top 10 NBA = 35.95 avg of top 10 NFL = 43 NFL players are the best non track "athletes"!!!!
The only problem with this synopsis is rarely do you ever see a receiver standing still facing the QB waiting for a ball that the WR can leap in any direction to get.
Receivers are almost always moving in one direction...and moving very fast at that. This limits the physical reaction of the WR.
yeah...WR's are usually running hooks, streaks, or posts...or an option of the combination of the three...i'm just saying a hook is a common pattern for primary WR's...
