I agree. The song is definitely overplayed. My sister played it on her violin Gr. 1 exam. And many years ago a friend brought her son over with his keyboard playing this piece. The boy said the teacher wanted him to play it. Playing was nice and we gave our encore. Like Suzuki version of "Twinkle Little Star" or "Perpetual Motion". You do it because it is part of the lessons.
People do choose their own pieces in recitals, hopefully, not because "their teachers say so"...
Contrary to what many believed, this piece may not be written by Bach. A few hundred years ago when photocopying was not available, people used to copy music from each other. This was both a necessity and learning experience since you didn't have pieces in print.
Many suites (dance-like pieces) such as Musette, Minuet, Sarabande ended up in several notebooks in the Bach family. The most well-known is "Notebook of Anna Magdalena" (Bach's 2nd wife). Bach's published work have BWV #.
I hate this song. I learned it when I was young as well (not 4 though!) but man it's so overplayed ugh and when a little kid plays it it sounds even worse, it sounds like it's meant to be played by an infant. It's babyish. It's the bach version of Beethoven's Fur Elise, waay overplayed, especially by beginners. Ahh
ha ha! i can't remember how we started doing all that! but i remember giving him the marshmallow at the end of each lesson :) now, he is 7 and still keeps practicing.. not easy but he loves to perform at recital, competition, or just for family, relatives, friends, etc..
v impressive, infact im amazed at how he did that at his age... i have a 4 yr old n he has no interest in learning the piano no matter how much i would luv to teach him... any tips on how u got ur kid into it???
BEAUTIFUL it is wonderful eventhough i am 9 years old myself i enjoyed this piece and i also play piano very very well i compose my own music well this kid is good

Mikeisapro....if you were so smart, you would know that this isn't a "song." This is a piece. The word "song" implies to "sing."
