Firstly - this is him playing to a composed script, he is not meant to be doing improv.

Also, within many genres of music is it NOT a huge obvious change that makes its great, it's the subtle differences. Jojo has taken a whole load of similar themes but given them totally different feels which in honesty is more than 90% of the commercial drummers you see these days in 'popular' music could ever do.
