  • he is wearing the most horrorble t shirt, but still he looks cool he as a or about him,he spoke since and i love his books

  • @misteramerican650 you should feel that way every time you write

  • Since I'm an aspiring writer, If I was there, I would have asked him if there was a magic moment in which you know you've written something good. I always wonder if there is.

  • i have that moment every time i pick up twilight

  • @mzic666 You've picked it up more than once?

  • My hero. He saved my writing career with these words.

  • @StretchDouche Are you a joke? Have you ever heard Carrie, the Shining, Misery, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Pet Sematary, Salem's Lot, the Dead Zone, the Mist, Stand by Me, the Apt Pupil, Christine, Firestarter, Cujo, Hearts in Atlantis, Dreamcatcher, The Dark Half, Needful Things, the Mangler, Children of the Corn, Silver Bullet, Dolores Claiborne? Are you an elf living in a cave? Do you know Stephen King is officialy an author with the highest number of filmed books and stories?

  • @StretchDouche Just check the movie at the top of IMDB and you will understand who Stephen King is...

  • @StretchDouche Hmm.. Your ignorance is obnoxious.

  • @StretchDouche Oh hahahaha you really said that

  • @StretchDouche Have you not heard of The Shawshank Redemption? You know, the movie that, depending on who you ask, is considered either THE BEST (or second best) FILM EVER MADE IN THE KNOWN HISTORY OF PLANET EARTH?

  • @LightningLazer96

I've seen a bit of that film, it's so BORING. How can anyone like it? no thanks, I'm gonna watch some twlight, Jacob is so hotw wihtout his shirt *drools*

  • @StretchDouche Stephen King's novels have sold far more copies than Meyer's. And as someone who can't write a damned sentence without multiple spelling/grammar mistakes, you're in no position to be saying King doesn't know about writing. He's forgotten more about writing than you or Stephanie Meyer will ever know.

  • what a badass motherfucker

  • "This really sucks....I can do better than this...and this got published" lmao such a inspiring quote Hats off.

  • stephen king must end up thinking most books suck hahaha

  • Thank you, Mr. King.

I go to bed every night (well morning) after hours of pounding away on my keyboard, thinking to myself, "This story might suck, but it can't be as bad as Twilight!"

  • @TomMSTie1138 Same here man

  • @Tristen95gi :)

  • @TomMSTie1138 LOL:))

  • .......Anne Rice is the best.... As for the vampire stories :) Fullstop. End of story.

And yes, I agree. Stephen King is the best writter indeed. :) GENIOUS!

  • nice shirt! xD

  • The Dark Tower series alone is enough to obliterate any work that Meyer did and will EVER do.

  • thanks stephen now im gonna stop holding off writing my book

  • @MellowSquash go for it, hope you complete it

  • @unholychunk thanks

  • The scariest horror book ever published is 'Thirteen Volume One' by Andrew Hannon.

    Google it.

  • LOVE THIS GUY! lolz

  • There's really nothing in common between Stephenie Meyer (juvenile romance) and Stephen King's (horror/mystery) works, so it's actually stupid to compare them.

  • @Akcr1983 I agree...but wouldnt it be nice if they two collaborate ( like King and Straub ) to make a horror mystery for the juvenile love sick audience )?

  • @brockpierce1984 It sounds interesting, "horror mystery for the juvenile love sick audience" is the description of a book I'd read :)

  • @Akcr1983 You can't judge them on plot due to them being different audiences and genre but you can on things like style and language that kind of thing is where King comes on top. Like Poe is a better writer than King but King can tell a better story.

  • @nirvanak1234 of course, but that's not what every body is doing here

  • @Akcr1983 I think that people dislike something because somebody else dislikes it. People just seem a bit ignorant to me, they only judge on plot not other factors of the books.

  • @nirvanak1234 King has so much more experience and profesional studies, Meyer is a beginner. Besides that, if a story makes you feel or think about something (other than boredom, that is) is it really that bad? it's just like movies, there are zillions of popular movies that are completely forgettable, but if in that moment they entertained you and made you forget about daily problems and causes of stress, it was probably worth to watch.

  • @Akcr1983 who cares how stupid it is, it's the truth

  • @Akcr1983 i was literally just about to post that, im glad someone else did it for me. im not saying Meyer is a bad writer... but how the hell can you even compare the two? oh... they both have words in them? ....anything else they have in common? exactly. and dont even say the covers of the twilight series are better than stephen king's books... aha, stephenie meyer, "hm... i think ill just put a chess piece on this one"

  • lol

  • The King of amazing! He is a great inspiration!

  • Thumbs up for The King!

  • The importance of being self critical.

  • I LOVE STEPHEN KING!!

  • Twilight Vs Salems lot, Rip the fairys head off Barlow

  • I guess now we all had that magic moment since we read Twilight.

  • King is the Man.

  • Stephen King is an amazing author =) what would we do with out him?

  • I read the internet alot, alot. As much as a Barnes and Noble book worms read books off of shelves instead of buying them. Regarding the students question, I think the kids where looking for a magic formula . You could of said,"Sell your soul." That would of catapulted book sales even further. I would of said that. Never mind,I wouldn't of. I cant contrast and compare. Great quote though. You could of told em' to eat a fly and they would of thought you were great. Awesome~

  • i love stephen king

  • ron paul 2012, spam the web!

  • Whooaa, that's so weird... I had that moment after I finished reading Marked of the House of Night series.

  • I've had that magic moment reading just about every novel I've picked up in the last five years.

  • I didn't the humour in that question.

  • @guildfordrunner I don't think the crows was laughing at the question, more of King's delayed response. It's quite a big question to answer, it's hard to find where to start.

  • @PBandJeIIy Fair enough, it is sort of a broad question, but he did some it up with those two main ones.

  • @guildfordrunner Two very important points!

  • He is soooo right!

  • Hey how did you guys know he was referring to Twilight? I'm still puzzled by that.

  • I am only 15 years-old and I aspire to be a young soccessful writer :D I read book after bok afetr book. If I finish a book, and I don't have another one to read witin the next 24 hours, I go mad. It is truly my passion <3

  • @ZackfanRikkulover do you seriously not know how to spell and fail to see the irony in your statement, or are you 45 year old with lots of time on his hands attempting to passively troll?

  • @klokchander I am aware of the misspelling in my statement. I wrote this on my friend's computer, while my hands were cold. Typing hurt xD And no, I am not 45 :] I am a 15-year-old girl. I taught myself English, since we do not speak that in my country, and in no way am I trying to troll. Say all you want, but you will not erode my enthusiasm. And quit all your prejudice. You should ask before you judge. Thank you ^___^

  • @ZackfanRikkulover No prejudice, just spellcheck. No one is going to ask if your hands hurt unless they really care about you, so get ready to get judged on what you put out there. Good luck with your endeavors and stay enthused.

  • Ha ha! That's the magic moment OK. Then there's the reverse magic moment, after you've been saying "I could do that," or "yeah, with some work I could have written this" and then you read something that makes you just put your head between your knees and say "Sweet Jesus. I could never touch that." For me, one of those times was Toni Morrison's stream of consciousness monologues of the three women near the end of Beloved. These are magic too. They are good, and they keep you honest.

  • I really don't know why Anne Rice has been put aside next to Stephanie Meyer because Twilight is a love story and she made it so un-cliche that it worked eve though Anne Rice has stories about vampires as sophisticated monsters like Bela Lugosi was portrayed from Bram Stroker's novel of 1897 or the 1890's? whatever story sells will make it even if people think its sappy or boring.

  • Why are people talking about twilight Stephen King writes books for adults not 13 year old girls.

  • He's the man. I read everything I can get my hands on. And sometimes I think, what a load of crap this book is. But the opposit is true. You come across a book that blows your mind. For me it was, Catcher in the Rye and the Outsiders.

  • hey sorry to "Spam" but I am just letting fantasy readers know about my 100 percent free e-book. There is a link to it on my homepage so please come get yourself a copy!

  • I love King's first few words in his book On Writing: "This book is short, because most books about writing are full of bullshit." or it went something like that

  • Stephen King's always worth listening to. After all, he's actually achieved what he's talking about, unlike the authors of too many 'how to' books.

  • Stephen King hits the nail on the head...

The same goes for musicians... millions of them who say "I want to be a musician" but very few who pick up thier guitars every day... and vice verse nor do they seem to "Listen" I teach music and the two things I stress to students... Play and listen. Looks like the same thing as "write and Read" to me. Go Stephen King go!

  • John Grisham provided the "magic moment" for me. The Rain Maker, to be specific.

  • What's also awesome, the works of J. Richard Singleton:

    amazon.com/s/qid=1304791434/ref=sr_nr_seeall_3?ie=UTF8&keywords=j.%20richard%20singleton&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aj.%20richard%20singleton%2Ci%3Adigital-text

    Thumbs up if I'm awesome!

  • Stephen King is my literary hero :D xD

    He speaks the truth!

My magic moment happened while reading both Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (Seriously? Who published that?!) and Matched by Ally Condie (I can do better than THAT!)

  • Twilight is shit compared to stephen king's work

  • @spotdathief Twilight is a shit that had overly high marketing budget. Stephen King is pure talent.

  • @spotdathief not to mention everything else.

  • @spotdathief Twilight is shit compaired to most people's work...

  • @spotdathief they are two completely different genres.

  • @sparkleygirl11 You talk like the King has only produced work in one genre.

  • @theakstonsrock fine. HE WRITES COMPLETLEY DIFFERENT GENRES! geez...

  • @spotdathief shit is to big to be equal to shit that you are comparing. Shit that was eaten by rat, shat again, then was picked up by a pig and shat again, now that is a strong shit that can be equal to twillight.

  • @spotdathief Stephan king is DUMB compared to Stephanie meyer , the way he insluted twilight and S.meyer doesnt makes him GREAT , I am disappointed that Stephen King would say something like this. He is the king of FICTION right? I have read some absolutely ridiculous books of his, like Thinner...I mean , what kind of message does that send., That gyspsy's are all evil people just waiting to put curses on people who cross them?

  • @kingkstewssed HAHAHAHAHAH! Sorry I was just laughing at your stupidity. Vampires that sparkle? Yeah that's not dumb at all, ruining the image of vampires forever. Read King's Salem's Lot it puts Twilight to shame well actually any book King has written does that anyway.

  • @spotdathief He is the last one to be talking about "messages" other writers are sending. What are the morals of his stories?? Don't fu-- off Telepathic teenage girls? Don't trust Saint Bernards? Don't get in cars named Christine?what great moral messages is HE sending that he can judge others moral messages? Just my 2 cents anyway. writers should respect other writers...ps : i really love s.king but i hated how he insulted twilight .

  • @spotdathief stephen king is a genuis something stephenie meyer is not

  • @TheTwilightSagaSucks Hahaha, true ;P

  • Yes, that's is right, to be a writer you must read books. King you are amazing

  • I'm nowhere near as talented a writer as King, but reading and writing is not enough. There is a tempermant to writers that I belive is ingrained early on in life. It's almost a super-human consciousness of the world. I have extreme anxiety and very sensitive to the details of life, and in this respect it has helped me.

  • @PoetsLight The writers temperament can be ingrained in early life and it can be cultivated. Google Keirsey temperament sorter.

  • Great stuff! And so true.

  • 19 people would rather take advice from Meyer.

  • Lol @ Cestbobaheure.

  • Thumbs up if you've had the "magic moment" while reading Twilight.

  • @cestbobaheure

If I had more thumbs, I would give them to you :)

  • @cestbobaheure why post this one king thing :(

  • @cestbobaheure When I read the passage in "On Writing", when I read the passage about the "magic moment" My first thought actually was Twilight. LOL so true!

  • @cestbobaheure Twilight sucks!

  • @cestbobaheure i had my "magic moment" during Cirque du freak

  • @cestbobaheure l actually did!even a few times..but l payed so much for them so l made myself to read first three..but l wasnt able to finish the last one..

l feel kinda cheated..l bought them when twilight was unpopular and l thought that it will be a cool vampire story like Annie's Rice books to read and put to my collection..

..and now l am the one who owns all the ''twilight saga'' books..

    ..fml.

  • @cestbobaheure had the magic moment without having to read twilight.

Friend - The vampires, they are so cool and they sparkle, and Edward is so cool and

Me - Okay, take out sparkles, give the guy a vlad trademark oh and make some realistic characters. Thats better now.

    Friend - What about Jacob?

Me - Silver bullet to the brain pan, NEXT!

  • Hey not trying to steal the spotlight and I am certainly not trying to compare myself to Stephen king. But I am letting everyone know that I am a first time published author. My book Rasciss tells the story of Hollowawk a man who literally defied death and now must face the wrath of petty gods. Come onto my channel and check out the promo video I made for Rasciss. Leave a comment and if you like what you see than please pick yourself up a copy and let me know what you thought about it.

  • 19 people out there dosent know the true meaning of intelligent writers

  • "This really SUCKS. I could do better than this. And this got published."

Stephen King, you made my day. LMFAO XD

  • he was not talking about twilight. twilightt wasn't even written in 2003, idiot haters.

  • @elinheartstristin, he was foreshadowing.

  • @showmetexas LOL!. sure XD

  • :58 the real fact about all that twilight shit

  • LMAO.....This books sucks....I can do better than this, and this got published.

  • awesome, thanks a lot for posting this.

  • I could probably write beautiful and such but I am so hurt and what I went through - well Steven King could be my shrink and be successful. lol Isn't it funnt how human we are while the arts we practice paint a different picture the masses generally assume as linked to the producer? As a kid I'd expected Steven King to be some real life spook possibly worse than some of the charecters in his books

  • @bronjoful He actually adresses that in his book "The Dark Half". The main character is a writer who wrote some Violent, vulgar, gorey fiction stuff for the money and his readers expect him to be a man who knows a hell of alot about the violence that he includes in his books. Maybe even expects him to have done some of those things. That's King's way of addressing that impression people get off him from his books. He's just a clever witty guy with a keen ear for stories and characters.

  • he is obviously talking about about twilight.

  • @MrMatto91 Twilight wasn't written in 2003

  • @MissKristie14 oh i never noticed the year this video took place

  • @MrMatto91 fuck off, shit head.

  • @desirewalkson99 you fuck off i say what i want about twilight. its crap.

  • I'm to be featured in Daytona Beach's "News-Journal" in September 2011 as a local author. I wrote a 96-page book entitled "Along the Far Climb Down" that's for sale at the notorious Polyester Books: 330 Brunswick St., Fitzroy (a suburb of Melbourne), Victoria, Australia. It's on page 1 of their web site. Type "Along the Far Climb Down" into Google's image file and you'll be nearly there.

  • @EdwardIsMine468 Dude why don't you just try and get you short stories published as an anthology?

  • hahaha "this really sucks i can do better than this"

exactly what i said when i read twilight xD

rock on stephen king. you're a legend

  • @D1G1TALhikari OMG, I had that exact SAME thought when I read Twilight! Also, sometimes when I look at the teen section I'm like"If trashy vampire romance novels like this managed to get published, then I definitely can!" It's very a motivational 'magic moment', lol.

I agree that Stephen King is awesome! He happens to hate "Twilight' too.

  • "On Writing" is incredible and full of both entertaining and useful advice. Fuck adverbs, yeah!

  • Haha awesome thanks for posting this.

  • I haven't read any of his books yet, and I admit it shamefully. D:

But I grew up watching 'IT' and 'Pet Cemetery', so I've always known who he was, but just.. never read anything of his. :/

    *shame shame shame >.<*

I'm on the 3rd Chapter of Salem's Lot. I'm already loving it.

And I can't even believe there is a video in the suggestion with Stephenie Meyer giving out advice to writers. -_-

Dear God, no. Just no. Leave the advice giving to REAL writers, like Stephen King...

  • That top is sick

  • man alta schafft es endlcih ma jemand etwas über stephen king zu uppen das auf deutsch is ?! -.-

ich versteh in etwa was er sagt aber halt nur abgespeckt -.-

  • I love him! he`s the kind of writer who shows the world what good writing is about.

and that is very rarely found now a days.

    other good "modern" writers..

    mich albom, robert olen butler,j.k.rowling

  • I can't believe how many people have responded to this video claiming to be writers and then use incorrect spelling and errant grammar. "Than" is only for use in comparison. "Then" connects two clauses or indicates a moment in time. Don't use a run-on sentence if its running on has no purpose or, even worse, a contrived purpose. Finally, don't tell us to go check out your book and type your request in lazy shorthand. If u talk 2 me like this, odds are ur book won't be much better.

  • @tampadna And self published books almost never go through proper editing.

  • gotta love how Stephen King can produce this amazing advise and give a detailed explanation, and all Stephanie Meyers can say is "write for the joy of writing and don't worry about the rest of it"....

  • It really is a magical moment when after you read a book you are blown away by how much it really sucked. Its the only way to get courage and start the first steps towards getting published. To me it happened last year after reading a Charlaine Harris True Blood novel. If this got published then surely I got a chance. I think the only reason books like that see the light of day is to give confidence to all those talented but timid writers out there :D Way to go big K :)))

  • @UnknownGunslinger Did Roland Deschain inspire your youtube name? My confidence came from reading a 4 page relentless and non-metaphorical description of a woman's shoes..right before she was about to get stabbed to death. It was morale leechingly crap and it ruined my weekend......sorry I just had to find a relevant video so I could get that off my chest.

  • good advise,old pro.

  • Hey not trying to compare my self to the legendary stephen king but just letting people know about my first published book. "Rasciss" tells the story of a man named Hollowawk who literally defied death and now must face the wrath of petty gods, come onto my channel check out the video I made to promote my book. If u like what u see than pick urself up a copy and let me know what u thought about it

  • Magic moment? Can't be true! If it were, everyone who reads Twilight would have one.

  • Read a LOT; write A LOT! Do the work. be well-read. Crank out the words. thanks!

  • Stephen King wrote a book on how to write books. It's quite good. He talks about how he wrote on every litlle break he had while working. This guy "had" to write, he had the passion. His book also talked about the importance of editing and re-editing several times.

  • I've read a few Stephen King books, i absolutly love him, he's one of my favorite authors, and he has inspired me to write more than my usual yearly halloween short stories. thanks to him, i have been inspired to write a great horror/thriller

  • I just had a "This Really Sucks" experience -- several actually as I go through it -- reading John Grisham's "The Confession."

  • Check out "WARS OF TIMES by LUN"

at Amazon and Barnes&Noble online bookstore

A world like you've never imagined before!!

  • I am 22 and I discovered Stephen King at the age of 12,in a long trip when my sister had his book :the shining, since then I haven't stopped reading his books or admiring him,I really really really want to meet him one day, lucky those ppl that were there

  • stephen king is one of the most fertile writers of our time

  • 1:03 Twilight definitely

  • I agree with Stephen King that writing and readings are key to gain success as a writer, but I don't think You can become a writer through this only. I think you have to got a gift, a specific turn of mind, too.

  • @890slay Well yeah, but you don't know if you have it until you really start getting into reading and writing and get something published.

  • Cool shirt!! I want. Where dya get it ?

  • In 200 years, if there is still a humanity, King's stories will still be around. Teenie bopper trash like Twilight, will not. Sorry lil' girls, Stephanie Meyers just isn't that great once you see beyond the veneer of hipster bopper drama.

  • I had that magic "this book really sucks" moment after I read Under the Dome.

  • Orison Scott Card (fantasy/scifi writer)said about the same thing for why he started writing, "I know I can write a helluva lot better than these people."

  • I can write better than all these yale wannabes. go into business retards. keep the writing to people who can do it

  • @m420carbine4: Was the missing comma before "retards" and lack of capitalization in two out of three sentences intentional? I only ask because if one wants to criticize others for their writing skills, one should also consider their own.

  • Long Live the King. :D
