And why don't we arrest the makers of the bacon cheesburger, baconaise, or the Wendy's double down? Because tyrants are cowards that oppress the weak.
@ZM7241994 It failed because it had no chance of succeeding from the start. They knew that. It's all about tobacco lobbyists and political bullshit. You can't put effectively regulate something desired by so many people. It's not practical.
@iLitka I wouldn't say that the War on Drugs failed because it's desired by so many people. In fact, only a small percentage of Americans use drugs like crack, or heroine. I think the War on Drugs would have been alot more effective if we had more border control and some support from the Mexican government. Until we get our national borders under control the War on Drugs won't be effective.
@ZM7241994 Please. Do you know how many Americans smoke marijuana? There is NO WAY they will EVER effectively police it. Not to mention harder drugs. The War of Drugs has cost taxpayers more than 1 trillion dollars over the last 30 years. They aren't stopping anything. Securing the border wouldn't help. If people want it, they're gonna get it. Prohibition doesn't work. They could seal off the whole country, wouldnt matter. Look at decriminalization in Portugal. Education & Rehab > unjust laws
@iLitka I can understand why you brought up marijuana but I wasn't referring to it in my previous comment. I don't really consider it to be a drug but still not too many people smoke marijuana. The War on Drugs isn't stopping anything? That's not true. The govt being doing it's best to decrease the amount of drugs that are flowing, and have stopped a considerable amount, into the country but they aren't given the support they need. You may call these anti-drug laws stupid, but not unjust.
They are absolutely unjust. The government has no right to tell people what they can, and can't put into their own bodies. Granted, that only goes as far as the individual is concerned. Not too many people smoke marijuana? You are DELUSIONAL. I agree with you about it not being a drug, but that doesn't mean it isn't a HUGE part of the War on Drugs. Anything can be abused. Hell, water will kill you if you drink too much. Should we outlaw h2o? Gotta protect the people from themselves!
Any moron with half a brain knows that hard drugs are bad for you. Making them illegal does nothing to curb the problem. If you want to correct the problem, you need to know what leads people to abusing hard drugs, and fix it. Thats how you solve the problem, NOT by making decisions for other people, which is unjust AND stupid. You could put an unlimited amount of heroin in front of me, and I wouldn't touch it for $1Billion. You can't legislate morality. AndyouIgnored my Portugal point, figured.
@iLitka Perhaps you're right but I have my doubts about your theory. If people are willing to risk fines and/or imprisonment for these drugs how will legalizing them change anything? You mentioned sending drug addicts to rehab centers but we have them now. Are we going to force them to go?
@ZM7241994 The illegality forces the drugs into an underground market. This makes the drugs not only more dangerous, but a taboo topic for kids to openly discuss with their elders and/or peers. If they are interested in these the nature of drugs, they are forced to look to less trustworthy sources and/or themselves for info. This is dangerous. Regulating these drugs would not only make them safer but also present a better environment to ask ?'s and seek real answers. Not some B.S. DARE program.

@ZM7241994 We could make rehab mandatory. It would be far better than prison and actually give the user a chance at recovery. You do no good to just lock someone up. Addiction is a medical issue, often times people are undergoing mental struggle be it stress, depression, ignorance, etc and turn to drugs. If someone is abusing heroin bc they are depressed, what good does prison do if user doesn't learn how to cope with their depression? None. Chances are they will abuse again when they get out
@iLitka I doubt making rehab mandatory would work because we can't force people to stop doing drugs. We can force them to attend rehab and that will probably keep them off dope for as long as they are in it. The question is will they stay off the drugs once they get out of rehab and sadly many addicts have a relapse. Even addicts who want to stay clean end up back on drugs after rehab and this causes me to question your theory.

since when was it okay to put people in jail over hot dogs? If people want to get sick then let them. Americans can't even imagine what is coming - I lived in communist country long enough to know that it's not too pretty when bureaucrat decides what sizes of trousers should be produced and how many (and all other goods as well). Black market is blooming but it's illegal (gangs and secret police are involved).
I think the main point of this dilemma is that as long as customers realize that the vendors' food is less than perfectly prepared, and choose to buy it anyway, then there is nothing wrong with that. That's why its wrong to shut the carts down.
The same argument can be used with cigarettes; if smokers know the health risks and choose to smoke regardless, nothing unethical has happened.
Yeah. It goes double with smoking. I'm so sick of these douchebag Congressmen bitching about how "evil" the tobacco companies are. They're just providing a product that some people love! Now they wanna get the FDA to regulate it, as if tobacco isn't regulated enough in this country already. There was a silly Congressional debate on the House floor a while ago I remember, where they bitched about "sweet cigarettes" that Big Tobacco supposedly was making for kids. oh please.
Or these anti-smoking shitheads who bitch about "secondhand smoke", as if it's SUCHHHH a threat. Or the stupid kids in those Truth ads. I don't give a shit what some Big Tobacco document from 10 years ago said!! Just get off my tv.
It's also important that people realize that communism, fascism, and socialism are all very similar, just slightly different ways of government controlling the production. It is scary to see the path our country is headed and most Americans are too busy watching American idol or the Olympics instead of researching the harm of coercive force! Great comment!
Bacon-wrapped hot dog?? I'm in heaven! Pork is AWESOME! Bacon, ham, you name it. Bacon is the best topping for pizza. I just love meat in general. Now, if it were a bacon-wrapped bratwurst... ^.^
Is there really nothing else they could be doing with their time than picking on street vendors over bacon??? You wouldn't believe the amount of crap you put in your body just by eating processed food of any kind! But lets have a panic attack over bacon dogs! Wow!
I kept waiting for this to be "punked". The LA official had to be straight from central casting. I loved his response "nebulous number", or "we have no idea and I have to justify my job".

I found out if you have a cart it needs to be stationary and on private property.
I wrote to the Reader here and am trying to find out why they do not allow and food vendors in this city.
You walk around looking at the sights and you are starving and thirsty and can not get a drink or a bite without going into a fancy restaurant.
