I think the War on Drugs would have been alot more effective if we had more border control and some support from the Mexican government. Until we get our national borders under control the War on Drugs won't be effective.

@iLitka I can understand why you brought up marijuana but I wasn't referring to it in my previous comment. I don't really consider it to be a drug but still not too many people smoke marijuana. The War on Drugs isn't stopping anything? That's not true. The govt being doing it's best to decrease the amount of drugs that are flowing, and have stopped a considerable amount, into the country but they aren't given the support they need. You may call these anti-drug laws stupid, but not unjust.

Any moron with half a brain knows that hard drugs are bad for you. Making them illegal does nothing to curb the problem. If you want to correct the problem, you need to know what leads people to abusing hard drugs, and fix it. Thats how you solve the problem, NOT by making decisions for other people, which is unjust AND stupid. @iLitka Perhaps you're right but I have my doubts about your theory. If people are willing to risk fines and/or imprisonment for these drugs how will legalizing them change anything? You mentioned sending drug addicts to rehab centers but we have them now. Are we going to force them to go?

@ZM7241994 The illegality forces the drugs into an underground market. This makes the drugs not only more dangerous, but a taboo topic for kids to openly discuss with their elders and/or peers. If they are interested in these the nature of drugs, they are forced to look to less trustworthy sources and/or themselves for info. This is dangerous. Regulating these drugs would not only make them safer but also present a better environment to ask ?'s and seek real answers. Not some B.S. DARE program.

@ZM7241994 We could make rehab mandatory. It would be far better than prison and actually give the user a chance at recovery. You do no good to just lock someone up. Addiction is a medical issue, often times people are undergoing mental struggle be it stress, depression, ignorance, etc and turn to drugs. If someone is abusing heroin bc they are depressed, what good does prison do if user doesn't learn how to cope with their depression? None. Chances are they will abuse again when they get out

@iLitka I doubt making rehab mandatory would work because we can't force people to stop doing drugs. We can force them to attend rehab and that will probably keep them off dope for as long as they are in it. The question is will they stay off the drugs once they get out of rehab and sadly many addicts have a relapse. Even addicts who want to stay clean end up back on drugs after rehab and this causes me to question your theory.

i would love to be able to open a antique shop and the only thing necessary would be to pay my rent. unfortunately that's the way it works. liscenses, neighborhood approval, permits, etc are needed. they want to know that you are not selling stolen jobs or having a junk shop in their neighborhood.

Licenses, property rights-violating "neighborhood approval", permits, etc. don't protect against the selling of stolen goods. They just make life difficult for the good people who struggle to follow (and pay for) all the rules. And only a retard would put a junk shop in a nice area. I think the main point of this dilemma is that as long as customers realize that the vendors' food is less than perfectly prepared, and choose to buy it anyway, then there is nothing wrong with that. That's why its wrong to shut the carts down.

The same argument can be used with cigarettes; if smokers know the health risks and choose to smoke regardless, nothing unethical has happened.
