okay i have a slight question in hunter jumper shows can Friesians manes and tails be left long or do i have to cut it and braid it in a hunter style braid?
my fresian stallion jumps 1 mtr oxers without a problem, he loves it. i taught him to jump from 3 yrs at the same time starting his dressage training. he is now 8. Fresians do not like to be bored, by the same training day after day. I throw in a jumping day to give him a break! i cant do dressage in a jumping arena as he eyes up all the jumps! And it improves his dressage! win win i say for the both of us!
I've watched Fresians jump and most of them have far better tuck and form to their jump than a lot of the breeds I've seen. Even the heavy ones. Any horse can jump. It's just the physical shape, mental shape, and training the horse has had.
I love it. I am SICK of people saying that these horses cannot jump. They can and they do. The heavy Friesians may not be the best, but the lighter Friesians are great for it. People think ALL Friesians are large like Shires or at least Clydesdales. Most do NOT get that tall. I wish people would read something BESIDES Charlie Brown funnies.
Your comment about drafts not jumping is incorrect. They are strong enough to compete in jumping and not have injuries. Almost all draft horses today are used for riding and sports and, yes, that includes jumping.
Interesting, but if you want a horse to jump buy a warmbloodor arab or far lighter breed, frieians can jump but not as good. Also we have icelandics and they can jump and have superb stamina, still not an ideal jumping horse though.
Also the stamina question comes into the horse as an endurance horse but anyone owning one will tell you this.

Loved this video. Thank you for giving me answers in an otherwise, blurry subject.
