I'm not a big fan of deicide,but I really appreciate steve's work.He doesn't use triggers in thsi video,contrary to majority of present "well-known"extreme metal drummers,who are just extremely fast,and technical,but not really powerful.The drums sound as we can find on 1st deicide or entombed's "left hand path" are for me the bests,slowler than modern DM,but very more powerful.

While Kollias is faster, Asheim basically created a lot of the blast beats that kollias uses, if it wasn't for Deicide, a lot of death metal or dark metal bands wouldn't exist, yes he is getting old but he still can kick most drummers asses in and out of the drumset.

@trampledone paul from cannible corpse is the lars ulrich of death metal. he does a good job but he should not be in anyone's list of top death metal drummers. i don't even think he knows how to trad blast, all he does is hammer blasts which are a lot easier to play and his foot work is as basic as it gets.

@thispagesux actually what you said is disinginuice. see...lars was a great drummer at one time. if you actually listen to and justice for all and try to mimic the songs on it drum wise, its very difficult and he had alot of off beats. i love the drummer from cannibal because for the style of in your face death metal they do, his drumming works perfect. straight foward hammering is all he needs to do. but steve asheim will always be my favorite.

@trampledone i agree that the mark of a good drummer is how they compliment the music but for someone like me who's been doing this since my teens, im now 30, i have set the bar very high and i can't respect someone who has been jamming, touring and recording longer than ive been alive and still remain at such a basic level. paul and lars for instance never use fills that use a mixture of hands and feet, it's so easy to do and sounds amazing yet they never bothered to learn it.

@thispagesux im 39 and have been playing death metal and black metal since i was 16. lars was my first inspiration, then i went to dave lombardo, then death metal settling on steve asheim style. i love playing fast, agressive, and violent on my drums. blast beats, double bass rolls, ect.. if i dont get all my fills, i dont care its just fun for me to go insane on them. i like mike style, but to each there own.some might think playing death metal is easy, but others do not.

Steve Asheim is good, but he doesn't look as relaxed as John Longstreth, George Kollias, or Derek Roddy when he plays. He seems too tense. His posture and the way his arms move make it look like he's trying really hard to keep the beat (although he isn't).
