  • BY THIS SIGN YOU SHALL CONQUER!

when he said those words I could feel my heart tremble

  • "We speak the truth" -- not really. loll.

  • by the time Constantine came along "Christianity" had become brew of pagan philosophy.

  • Comment removed

  • "What it was is less important then what it was interpreted," remember this, all Christian, Jewish, Muslims, Hindi and Buddhists. Religions are nothing but well decorated swindles.

  • "Sin now repent later." The REAL essence of Christianity.

  • @leegeorgeson for some christians, for many, not for all.

  • @leegeorgeson ignorance is bliss isn't it?

  • christianity is really a religion of weak +slaves, just like any other organized religion, each individual spirituality is different

  • Faith is a gift rejected by the ignorant.

  • @carlzilla1 you mean its a curse rejected by the wise?

  • Those christians are the same as they were 2000 years ago. Forever so preachy and insisting they're always right with their annoying "my god is the true god" shit.

  • @busted192192 i am a christian but i am far from that you need to realize that not all christians are the same i am very open minded and open to knew ideas and if i do not agree with the bible i will state it which is why i don`t go to church

  • @younginspiration1 you can't be a Christian and directly disagree with the bible

  • @younginspiration1 You are not a Christian, you are an usurper.

  • Under Constantine, Christianity would flourish. His army was baptised as was himself.

  • is this a movie or history show

  • @mrvasili50

thank you, people get too crazy in this.

  • some christians dont believe in "this"

  • @newtsareamazing Christ conquers as this history illustrates. He is not conquered as the false preachers try to say. And His city is not hidden but shines throughout history as a lamp that shines for all. and the Church was never invisible.

  • A damn shame Rome turned its back on the gods, perhaps it was Jupiters fury that made the goths sack rome eventually

  • This is a crap job by the BBC. None of the historical records ever indicate that what Constantine saw could have been a meteor, or that he was constantly influenced by pesky Christians. What they have mostly stated is that he saw the vision in the sky that was a greek, Chi Rho symbol. It was said he heard a voice that said, "By this you will conquer". Now we don't know if it really happened, but what we do know is that it was recorded. The BBC just plain sucks when it come to historical accuracy

  • @MissedTheMark He probably didn't see anything and he, or the historians, just made it up.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 Why would he make up something so he can convert to a religion that he knew everyone would completely oppose? The romans hated christians. Why would he even change beliefs before a critical battle with an army who was all pagan? His own army didn't want to do it?? The thing is if you use the argument that the historians simply made that up then you can pretty much say that about all history..

  • @MissedTheMark How do you know everyone hated Christianity? Are you assuming they did because it was illegal? The Roman Empire was not a democracy.

That reminds me of people who say that the Apostles "wouldn't die for a lie". They assume that they were offered the option to recant. After the "Great Fire of Rome", Christians were blamed. The Apostles were targeted as leaders of a terrorist organization, not for their religious beliefs. Would the USA give Bin Laden the option to recant Islam?

  • @KayBeeEee1983 How do I know everyone hated Christianity? How do I know Constantine every existed? The same exact way. It was documented. The only ones who didn't hate christianity were the christians. As for the apostles argument, they knew that preaching the gospel would insite fatal opposition, but they kept preaching anyway. Christians were dying long before the Great Fire of Rome. It was not only the Romans who were doing the killing, but also Jewish Zealots.

  • @MissedTheMark "How do I know everyone hated Christianity? It was documented"

Show me where it's documented. I'm not saying you're wrong, I would just like to check it out for myself. It's also important to know WHEN it was written, because if it were written after Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, that would be suspicious, because a central theme of Christianity is persecution.

Are you assuming all Roman history is true?

  • @KayBeeEee1983 Are you assuming that a lot of roman history is false because you don't agree with it? I don't understand why you are so anal about what might or might not have happen unless you had an agenda. The thing is, this documentary suggested history that wasn't documented. Usually, people do that when they don't like what was written because they have an agenda. As for your documentation; Eusebius, Vita Constantini, Zonaras, Compendium of History, Lactantius De Mortibus Persecutorum

  • @MissedTheMark There are events in Roman history that don't make any sense, and therefore they shouldn't be assumed true. If all of Rome hated Christianity, including the military, and Constantine converted to Christianity, why would they keep him as Emperor? Why wouldn't they consider him an antisocial nut and revolt? The obvious answer: THEY DON'T HATE CHRISTIANITY.

It's funny that you mention agendas, because Roman historians all had agendas, that's why they're filled with embellishments.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 lol, why would they keep him as emperor? So they don't die. It takes time to plan an assassination. Constintine made the decision fast to convert the army. The army saw that the conversion helped them in their battle and became convinced themselves of it's "power". lol.. I liked that you screamed, "THEY DON'T HATE CHRISTIANITY.. It's almost like you do.

  • @MissedTheMark Did you really reference Eusebius? A Christian? You don't think he had an agenda?

It seems to me that you have the opposite problem. If you read history and LIKE what you read, you assume it's true. And when anyone question its reliability you try to deflect the argument and accuse the person of having an agenda rather than actually contemplating the possible historical inaccuracy. Like you doing right now....

  • @KayBeeEee1983 Oh, God seriously?? I doesn't disregard his view. Of course anybody can skew history, but from your end, besides him being a christian, what other evidence do you have that his view was not legitimate? I'm just telling you what it said. Just because you can't stand Christianity now, doesn't mean that it didn't happen then. Your arguments have not substance behind them except, speculation.. That's it! Nothing else!

  • @MissedTheMark "Constintine made the decision fast to convert the army."

Who would convert to a religion that they hate? If they hate Christianity, they wouldn't believe that Christianity helped them. You're seriously the dumbest Christian I've ever talked to. I'm not speculating or assuming. It's conjecture, the ability to reason, and common sense. I'm not going to respond to any more of your comments.

P.S. typing in caps isn't yelling, it's emphasis. Exclamation points signify yelling....

  • @KayBeeEee1983 lol.. Geez you get pissed easy.. lol.. It's like you're 4th grade again. When they make you mad, call them a name.. lol.. anyways.. A person would convert to another religion if there was some form of divine intervention that happened that convinced them otherwise, duh.. The whole point of God is that He is supernatural. So when something supernatural happens it forces a desicion. Of course you don't believe that it happened because you don't want to believe there is a God

  • @MissedTheMark "As for the apostles argument, they knew that preaching the gospel would insite fatal opposition, but they kept preaching anyway. Christians were dying long before the Great Fire of Rome. It was not only the Romans who were doing the killing, but also Jewish Zealots."

What are you basing that on? The book of Acts? There is nothing in any of Paul's letters to indicate that Christians were being killed during or before his time. Persecuted and imprisoned, yes, but not killed

  • @KayBeeEee1983 Considering that the book of acts is a historical document, whether you like it or not, Yes. The persecution started after Stephen. Acts 12:1-3, Acts 11:19. Also Philip was crucified at Heliopolis, in Phrygia A. D. 54. Simon the Zealot was ministering in Persia, and was killed after refusing to sacrifice to the sun god. James was martyred in 62 A.D. Paul talks about it in 1 Thess. 2:14-15. Revelation 2:13 talks about Antipas being martyred.

  • @MissedTheMark "Considering that the book of acts is a historical document, whether you like it or not, Yes."

    XD

Thanks for proving me right. Acts is outrageously inaccurate, even biblical scholars will tell you that. It contradicts Paul's letters.

As I've already said, just because some douche writes a story and claims it's factual DOESN'T MAKE IT SO.

Now I understand why you're so irrational and unreasonable.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 Prove to me, right here and now tha the book of Acts is "outrageously inaccurate"? Not a little inaccurate, "Outrageously".. lol.. And on the other hand, just because there are even errors in a book, doesn't mean the whole book itself is inaccurate..

  • @MissedTheMark Umm..no..that will take a while to get it all together, you wouldn't believe or understand it anyway, and I just don't care about you. I've wasted enough time. Learn how to reason. Use your brain. There's no reason to disprove 1 + 1 = 3.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 heh heh.. Couldn't resist to make one more comment even though you said you wouldnt? Next time, don't argue a topic you don't know much about. It will save you from feeling frustrated.. Have a nice day

  • @MissedTheMark Maybe he didn't change beliefs BEFORE the battle, only after he had secured power.

Do you think the army really cared which god, out of the hundreds within Roman paganism, Constantine worshiped?

People SHOULD be skeptical about Roman history. Much of what has survived was written decades, sometimes even generations, after the events described.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 You said "Maybe he didn't change beliefs BEFORE the battle, only after he had secured power". Hey the historical writtings say what they say. These writers were writer of those then living. Not latter historians. You said "People SHOULD be skeptical about Roman history". That's a real dumb argument, why? Because that's where we get most of our history from. Most of the peoples of that time did not document their history. It is that very thing which deemed a people group civilized.

  • @MissedTheMark "Hey the historical writtings say what they say."

Just because it was written a long time ago, doesn't make it true.

""People SHOULD be skeptical about Roman history". That's a real dumb argument, why?"

I guess you stopped reading my post after that sentence. I said "Much of what has survived was written decades, sometimes even generations, after the events described." Also, Roman historians are notoriously unreliable. They exaggerate and contradict, particularly Josephus.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 i didn't ignore your comment. I just didn't comment on it because you're just trying to use any argument. I don't care if roman historians are notoriously unreliable, it doesn't mean that all of them were, logically. You only want to use that argument when it applies to this topic because you have an agenda. Everybody uses those credibility arguments when they don't like how history was written.

  • @MissedTheMark "Most of the peoples of that time did not document their history. It is that very thing which deemed a people group civilized."

So what? Again, just because someone writes something, it's not guaranteed to be true. To assume it's true is idiotic, particularly ancient history. The Egyptians were also notorious liars. That doesn't mean you should assume all ancient history is false, it just means you should be skeptical, look for secondary sources, and use common sense.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 I never said that all of it is true, I'm just telling you what it says. Who knows, you could be a liar too. What do I have from you that can make me think otherwise. The thing is, people disagree with history when they don't like it and use the ol' ad hominem attack when it suits them. Hey, it says what it says. Saying what it doesn't say is far more unreliable..

  • @MissedTheMark I'm not purporting anything to be true. I'm reasoning for you because you are obviously incapable of doing it yourself. You have proved you have no capacity to think critically. Let me repeat:

If all of Rome hated Christianity, including the military, and Constantine converted to Christianity, why would they keep him as Emperor? Why wouldn't they consider him an antisocial nut and revolt? The obvious answer: THEY DON'T HATE CHRISTIANITY.

    You're hopeless.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 lol.. I have no capacity to think critically? Are trying to bag on me?? lol.. When you get frustrated, you through insults cause it relieves your stress? Am I stressing you? Anyways,The people of Rome hated Christianity, even liberal, anti christian BBC agreed with that. I think it's just a pride issue with you. You don't want to admit you are wrong. Besides, you never provided me any support that the Roman empire was sympathetic to christians. So who is the crap historian now?

  • @MissedTheMark I'm not frustrated. My mind is boggled by your willful ignorance. I can't understand why people believe that blind faith is a virtue. Faith is fine, but you have faith in things that have proven to be contradictory and/or completely made up.

  • Proof that the Roman empire was sympathetic to Christians during Constantine's time is the fact that he converted to Christianity and the people/army still followed him. What is so hard about that? You only accept written history as proof? Logic is proof.

  • @MissedTheMark "I think it's just a pride issue with you. You don't want to admit you are wrong."

Again, what a hypocrite you are. You, and other christians, don't want to admit you're wrong.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 Again its pride that makes you contradict your own word. You can't stand having somebody you hate beat you in an argument. You said you weren't going to respond, now look at you.. Who's the hypocrite?? Exactly.. Practice what you preach.. Don't let your pride make you look anymore foolish than you do.. And besides, look at what your atheism has done for you.. It's made you into a bitter, angry, and frustrated person. Why I or anybody what to live in that hell..

  • @MissedTheMark You have serious mental problems. You call yourself a Christian? You didn't beat me in any argument. Like most Christians, you simply ignore logic and reason, and you swallow blatant lies and enjoy it. How long did it take you to write that post? It's filled with more bitterness than any other single youtube post I've ever seen. Seek help with a mental health professional. A real one, not your lazy, liar, pedophile priest/minister.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 lol... I think you need a hug ;)

  • @MissedTheMark Can you write a single sentence without it being hypocritical? Seriously. You're the angriest Christian I've ever seen. You need more than a hug. You need to get laid.

  • @MissedTheMark If you think this hell, just imagine the hell you're going to be in when you die. Immoral hypocrites like you don't go to heaven. You can try to convince yourself that you will go to heaven, but it's all a lie, just like your religion.

Fact: Rome didn't hate Christianity during Paul's time, and they didn't hate Christianity during Constantine's time. You can believe all the lying apologists. Almost everything about Christianity is made up. Use your brain, if you even have one.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 Have you tried the new skittles lately?? Mmm Mmm Mmm

  • @MissedTheMark See, you're crazy.

  • @KayBeeEee1983 lol..

  • @KayBeeEee1983 LOL Nope................he just doesn't want to take you seriously

  • @TheRedemptionRain She was taking me seriously up until I proved that her argument made no sense. Then she did what a lot of Christians do when someone uses logic and reason against them: she made fun of me....

  • @KayBeeEee1983 LOL so? What is the point in arguing with someone who is just goofing around.........................oh gosh nvm, I am just tired of seeing people arguing over the internet =_=

  • @TheRedemptionRain She wasn't goofing around in the beginning. She thinks Constantine's conversion to a religion that everyone hated is proof that he really saw a sign from God.

  • Thracians, Celts and Romans - were the coolest players in the world (still..)

  • I don't like how ignorant people act like Christianity was the only horrible religion, there were horribly cruel religions both before and after Christianity. While its true that Christianity is responsible for a lot of bad things in the world, we as a race will never move forward if all we do is make childish attacks on peoples beliefs. People will simply hold onto their beliefs more strongly if all people do is attack their beliefs crudely. This is not the way to go about changing minds.

  • for goodness sake people can we not have this stupid conversation about whether about the crimes done in the name of christianity? Whether you people like it or not, constantine converted the empire to christianity and politicized it. Now obviously your gonna have those people who blame christianity for the fall of rome, ignoring other factors like the babarian invasions, the rising inflation and stagnation of the roman economy, and the decay in their armed forces. they cant be helped...

  • is that God sing really happened ??? according to the real events

  • i gotta small penis just like the emperor <3

  • Every married man knows that face of Constantine in 6:25: oops, should not have told her!

  • Proud to be descended from half Italian, we always eat and never gain weight...well that's not true some of us do gain weight. Besides that I used to weight 250 when I was 17, now that I started working out I only weight 180 and that's pure muscle. The actual trick to losing weight is having a hobby that brings your metabolism high. Then u can eat as much as you want and nothing goes on you. I eat around 4000 calories a day and nothing stays on me anymore! I'm still an American though.

  • Fausta

  • Eric Idle makes a great Constantine.

  • Haha It's funny how completely natural occurrences with the aid of superstition and ignorance can turn into some sort of "devine intervention".

  • "It was a sign!!" No, it was a fuckin' rock.

  • BBC have such interactive, realistic, and excellent documentaries and historical movies!

  • @YoungandRestlessboy No shit!

  • Was the woman a prostitute or something like that? Because of how they talk and act between 2:04-2:15.

  • @chrisrogerrabbit just watch.

  • Northern People are the True Romans!

  • damm that chick rocks :D but still its treu it was there rulez and if you dont you were dead and the armor some of the romans did have better armory this armor looks a bit barbarisch can be wrong though...

  • Isac is stupid and fat

  • OMG I CANT STAND HOW THEY REPRESENT THE ROMAN MILITARY

THEIR AMORY WASNT AS SHITTY AS THEY DISPLAYED

  • @Memogin It is the 4th century. Their armor changed in time.

  • @Memogin true

  • Constantine wasn't stupid. He knew that with Maxentius getting the backing of the pagan gods, he needed to counter with the opposite side of the theological coin, Christianity. That's all his 'conversion' was, it wasn't a mystical moment, it was cold hard PR and it's worked brilliantly for nigh on 1700 years now

  • @Zeruel3 yeah it was a clever political move even though it brought over 1000 years of religious tyranny. Which surprisingly even survives today.

  • that is the guy from hot fuz Martian blower

  • Constantine should have just stuck to believing whatever he believed before Christianity.

  • @FinsterIsAnIdiot And who are you to say what he should have done?

  • @FinsterIsAnIdiot

but he did. he had the gorgeous woman fausta executed for adultery later on (if memory serves, i will check) and one of his sons also, for rebellion. his christianity extended only to making himslf a 13th apostle and to the barbarity of his punishments for gays.

it was no christian conversion, and the christianization of the empire was a disaster for the church of christ

  • @coolasacoldsummer I should suck your dick for making such a spot-on observation! Mmm the RAPEture is coming! Jehovah will save only the few believers and the rest will burn in lake of fire!

  • @JayAntiGay in the war of 1812 american soliders didnt all havet the traditional uniforms. some juat wore rags

  • rofl brits

  • Hot Bitch!!! But like all women just does not know when to shut her mouth!!!!! Heavy is the head that wears the crown, i kinda feel bad for Constantine, We owe a lot to the guy who brought Christianity to the West, who cares if he believed in it himself. plus he had a cool name and we are still talking about him almost 2000 years later. Legacy!

  • stirrups?

  • Roma semper invicta est, Patres nos ne obliviscemur sanguinem qui in venae filiorum Italiae effluit! Ferus Italianus esse, ferus Romanus esse.

  • That is very surprising to see that Constantine actually had a vision from the God.I have read the book The Rise and Fall of Roman Empire which was written by the famous British historian Edward Gibbon but i have not read anything that the author describes about Constantine having visions but the authors describes him as a great general and a politician.Looks like i have to read that part again to see for the vision part.

  • if yu pray to the god of the jews...you are praying to the god who abandoned jesus to die ...jews hate jesus, and everbody else hwo is not a jew

  • @berjah1 not entirely true!!

  • @berjah1 God did not abandon Jesus to die on the cross. Jesus and God knew He would have to die to save us from our sins. God even said it in the Bible.

  • @berjah1 hey sweetstuff, your precious Christianity is just a far-removed Jewish sect. Chew on that for a while.

  • yeah. she's right!!! It's a slave's religion!!

  • Comment removed

  • @wissamsam please dont class the british as similar to the americans. we are nothing like them. i know the media in your country probably distorts your view of our country but we are decent people, it's just many of our politicians have given us a bad image. do not generalise people.

  • @maunus i agree, paganism or straight out atheism all the way!

  • @16Canadian

Yeah! Because paganism and atheism are not corrupt!!!

  • I never did, don't, never will believe that Constantine was struck by some sort of vision. He was just an excellent politician using the new and now quite powerfull faith to his own benefit.

  • the british accent just ruins it. would have been better if it was italian accent.

  • oh no, this is about stupid christianity!

  • @msquestionmark like it or not it plays a part of history. The story of Jesus as an existing human is corroborated by the romans. The fact that Jesus existed however does not add to the argument that the Christian God exists.

  • It is intelligent the way that BBC handles the moment of revelation.

  • bla bla "we speak the truth"

I have nothing against the original christianity, Jesus had a perfect message..love your neighbour, bring peace and love and help others. And he didnt force his religion upon others...like most of the other christians did.

  • Comment removed

  • christantly is'nt a slave's religion its the world's greatest religion its rome,spain and america's strongest religion

  • @lewisguner1 back in that time it was a slave's religion, now it's mostly for lunatics or people in undevelopped countries

  • @AlexOfMacedonAOMH Nice uneducated comment

  • "..i put my faith in noone thats why i'm still alive.." WTF did he

    later change his mind ?

  • "Christians are dirty. It's a slave religion. Besides, they don't approve of this...or this..."

I suddenly want to bang this ancient Roman chick. Hard. :D

  • @EricMetalGuitarist it's amazing how her description of Christianity is still relevant today

  • @EricMetalGuitarist you will regret your words heretic

  • @munchkingpower i was talking about the woman

  • @munchkingpower What was that woman's name? I didn't catch it.

  • @munchkingpower Throw this one to the lions!

    Lol. What's up, dude.

  • @EricMetalGuitarist Amen to that my friend xD

  • btw any1 whos wondering romans didnt speak english they spoke latin all roman soldiers were required understand latin as orders were given in latin for example testudo is latin for turtle (the formation)

  • Poor Dinosaurs :(

  • The Romans with their short life spans have never seen a meteorite before.

  • "You like this, don't you?" WTF? it scripts like a soft porn movie rather than a documentary

  • The Romans have such British accents...lol

  • Remember its not PC to say British as you will upset the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish if you say 'British accent' to them. Far safer to say English, and yes, for Romans they do sound very English!

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @sonrosado...i mean relations as it stands between the Welsh, Scots, Irish and the Brits.

  • Welsh get on OK with the English, friendly rivalry but no bitterness (from my own experience)

Scots want their independence I think (the SNP, the nationalist party was voted in), some are more anti-English than others, I think they want the North Sea Oil for their own revenues rather than having it all go to London

and as for Ireland.... oh my word! So complicated with the issue of Northern Ireland. Some love the English, some hate them..

  • the roman empire made the anglo saxon (brits) are direct royal desendence of the romans

  • @kaluski Not only that, but I didn't know the Romans spoke any English at all.

  • @kaluski Much better than Romans that sound like Americans.

  • @Trollmaster21 the christian religion is irrational

  • @meaks88 True, but the pagan religion is way more far nutty with it's many thousands of gods and animal sacrifice.

  • @Trollmaster21 thats teirrible

  • Animal sacrif. are on both places, read the bible. Still the same shit.

  • @kaluski hahahahhahah

  • the actors are british the romans have italian accents why because there from italy

  • @lewisgunner1 the italian language didn't exist in the 4th century.

  • the italian launge is from the latin launge and so is the spanish launge s

  • @lewisgunner1 yes i know, both languages come from vulgar latin, but at this time, the Italian language as it exists today was just not so.

  • the symbol X and P are well known ancient RUNE signs the X stands for gefu meaning-gift

the P is wunjo it is a phonetic symbol the N and th J are silent it is pronouced phonetically WOOOOO like the howl of a WOLF its definition is JOY animal emotion the gift of joy. HOWEVER when you COmbine THE TWO SIGNS you get the symbol CALC the upside down fork it is the sign of DEATH the death of JOY the ancients did not understand the runes and only used them for political power

  • @nukarr

if the ancients did not understand the meaning of the sign...how do you know the meaning of them?

  • Constantine dind't do anything too revolutionary compared to other Emperors, he was associating himself with one specific god and sect, like Aurelian had done before him with Sol Invictus

  • Solis Invictus = Mtira = corected Jeshua ben Sheb (Jesus Christus).

  • ok every religion is the same, the budda christ, etc different name same person god.can we just stop fighting were all christans arent we????

  • Never read up on Constantine, that quick-change, and shield cross, took fortitude and will, as a military figure of the last millenium, that puts him with Robert The Bruce, Nelson, Napolean etc., hell you can really shoot the bullshite on YT eh? @CIR229, Aye, Satan works through signs, so does everything else, animals, humans, insects, immortals, even plants.

  • Ancient Rome The Rise And Fall Of An Empire 2 - Watch popular TVShows at W W W . TV-Vide . NET

  • are they going to have some reference to the "spear of destiny". About cont's

sign'; all i know is he took it to mean something and switched to catholic the 1st emporer to do so, a VERY unlikely and almost impossible thing to occur and so began christianity's rise in power or influence. Still its funny how people will use almost anything to gain the upper hand on each other whether it be religion, signs or weapons?

  • What is this crap? This is beginning to look like one of those magical religious Battlestar Galactica episodes.

  • yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaah hip hip hurray catholisism

  • a myth

  • That woman is right!
