I'm looking for another version, also animated- has anyone else seen it, or remember watching it? It was on British t.v about 15 or more years ago, when i watched it as a kid, but looked older than that, so was probably a repeat. It was in stop-motion, not drawn, and completely set to music, like an opera. It was beautiful- but I can't find it anywhere, not even a mention of it... any ideas????????? thanks.
I remembered this when as a child and did learn the leasson and actually applied it to mmy life.
It is also reminded me of jesus and love for one another and everyone should be treated well and thats what it is like to be godlike in a way , when one loves everyone enough to give up ones own life or even lifestyle. I got the message in this toon because children will pick out the lessons that end in good. Its too bad the children actually are tought NOT TO CARE through their lives.
0 Dislike..I'm 15 and..i learn english everyday i nthe high school..once..yesterday(the last school day) a teacher told us this tale...I'm strong and so...but i cried :S
thank you so much for putting this up i love it did as a kid and still do now i watched every xmas it used to make me cry still does but i still love it they should put it back on tv at xmas for the kids now
Thank you so very much for putting this on youtube for us. I haven't seen it since I was probably 10 years old and it brings me right back to my livingroom, crying my little eyes out. I really appreciate you sharing it with us.
@ladgefull Lol! Same here. I was just thinking about it a minute ago. For some reason the movie Hugo got me thinking about that cartoon about Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, then suddenly the "Happy Prince" came to mind. My connections are a bit weird O_o.
I don't know why I put myself through this...I know I'm going to cry. I cry throughout because I know what is going to happen and then I cry so much at the end. I need to get a grip here...so sad yet beautiful.x
my dad has been telling me out this film ever since i was little girl and i have been wanting to see it for years and i have finally found it <3 xxxxx
I Read This Story In Class 10th, And I Like It, Its Very Heart Touching Story, And The Message Conveyed By The Author Is True Happiness Comes From Serving The poor And The Needy. God Also Blesses Such Parsons. It Is Clear From The Examples Of The Happy Prince And The Swallow. The Happy Prince Gives His All For The Sake Of The Poor. The Poor Swallow Sacrifices His Life For The Sake Of The Happy Prince. God Blesses Both Of Them. He Gives Them Place In His Paradise.
this story is brilliant , wilde was really commenting on the social structure of england of his day, and when the prince's gold was stripped away as was wilde during his trial the really double standard society had then and even to a lesser degree today the story is respectful also to its time period in refrence to the illustration of ships, artetechture and chimmney sweepers so it had a wonderful aspect of historical accuracy never remove these stories youtube we need to see them.
I loved this short movie. It was very touching at Christmas time in the 80s (long before reality shows filled up our schedules). If it is never shown on TV again then there is no justice in the world!
What? I can't belive I finally found it here on Youtube, Thank you, thank you very much for uploading this, this is the most beautiful story I had ever seen!!!
@annut123 When I was a child I had a VHS with this story and others Oscar Wilde's stories. Maybe now you can find it in DVD... but it would be susprising!
When I was a toddler, this film brought me to tears each Christmas. Then, for some reason, TV stations stopped showing it. I haven't seen it for almost 30 years !! This is now my son's 2nd Christmas watching it, with his mother and I alongside him. I first saw this when I was about the age he is now (5). I cannot express to you my gratitude for posting this.
me trae recuerdos de mi infancia, la verdad una bonita historia llena de mensaje, crei que no volveria a verla...gracias por ponerla aqui, ojala mucha gente la disfrute como nosotros.
The Remarkable Rocket, the Happy Prince and the Selfish Giant. All animated stories of Oscar Wilde by the same production company. Does anybody know if there were other animated films produced by the same company? I only remember these three which I used to watch over and over on tv around christmas time.
Part of my childhood ,had no idea it was Wilde , such a beautiful piece of work
