For most people, Homeworld OST will always be Agnus Dei. But for me, this is the greatest track in the game. It's just so full of optimism and hope, it could not fit the launch of the Mothership any better. Brilliant, brilliant work by Paul.
The next time the sky is clear at night, I'm going to sit outside, look at the expanse of stars spreading across the sky, and listen to this, and totally lose myself in the awesomeness of the idea that amongst the stars in another galaxy, there may be a Kharak system with a mothership navigating its way towards locating its own homeworld.
Everytime... Every god damned signle time I go back to youtube to listen to this, I think back, of the days gaming wasn't so adorably mainstream as it is today... Back when they made AMAZINGLY good games, such as the Homeworld series. Oh, how I miss being young.
This is still one of the best tracks in the whole game. This is what Battlestar Galactica SHOULD have been and wasn't. NASA, use this track when it's counting down to the first Moon colonisation mission going on its way!
I can never decide if Fleet Intelligence is an AI or a real person. He does have emotions, but he almost never shows them, so I assume he's an AI who still gets very shaken up during the attack scene.
@zugurudumba No, that's Fleet Command, not Fleet Intelligence. They're both human, although Command is physically plugged into a big computer. They both, as viralhatred said, need to keep calm as much as possible for the sake of the crew.
Fleet intelligence going online. Our task is to analyze sensor data and generate mission objectives. Before the hyperdrive test, several tasks must be completed.
@TyltyI This takes me back to the great times of PC RTS... It would be killer to have a Homeworld 3 (or a series that can take over from where Homeworld left) but at the current state of things I'm not sure. Either way, when I first played the demo this song really stood out. The whole ambience was perfect and the voice acting, excellent. From the creepy Kadeshi to the wise/ancient Bentusi or the Taiidani, all rocked!
Its really sad but I believe I heard somewhere that they have no plants to continue the series. They just don't make game series like they did in 1999.
HOMEWORLD is one of the few great games that frees your mind from rigid limitations of terra firma colonization. They (Relic, and Sierra) need to make more games like this!
I really loved SOASE. Played it religously when I first got it then I slowed down playing it.
Then I got Homeworld and haven't played SOASE since. It just doesn't compare. HW has unmatched storyline, music and gameplay. And this was one of the very first 3D RTS games. It used the new technology for tactical purposes not to make stuff look more pretty. Maybe one day a game that can match HW1 will be made, but I doubt it will be anytime soon.
@solus48 I also expected Sins to be a spiritual successor to the HW series, but it was totally different. The gameplay had nothing to do with HW. It wasn't even real 3D, because 2D + a skybox doesn't make it 3D.
I wonder why isn't THQ developing HW3, they have the IP and they have Relic, what more is needed?
@zugurudumba I would assume the reference is to the big game announcement from THQ/Relic slated for August, which could theoretically be Homeworld 3. (but i'm pretty sure it'll be COH2 or some DOW spinoff)
Thanks for posting. This is one of my favorite game tracks of all time...
I'll never forget the sheer sense of awe and wonder I felt at the launch of the Mothership. (btw, it helps if you crank up your subwoofer: the punch of the percussion really hits home then.)
This song will forever be attached to that feeling of triumph and excitement in the first mission of Homeworld. The Mothership is (almost) complete after all.
It does a great job of avoiding anything that would warn the player of what is on the horizon. It makes what comes next more powerful.
Just dug this game back out a few days ago and have not stopped playing!

I have a question: in this song you can hear some kind of flute in 0:15 sec. What is that?
PL: Wiecie co to za flet w 15 sekundzie utworu? To jakiś konkretny instrument?

For 1999 this game was truly the epitome of the RTS genre. Hope we'll see a Homeworld 3 in the near future, wonderful game!

Homeworld is the best space RPG ever, nothing really compares. I was hoping Sins of a Solar Empire would be good but it disappointed me.
I heard the rights to homeworld were reacquired recently so i am desperately hoping for another one.

You mean RTS.

After having played most space based games, Impirium Galactica, HW-H2, Orb, Hedgemonia, Eve-online just to name a few.
I have to say this is the best none battle space theme out of them all. HW ftw
