I hope everyone (especially the youngsters) appreciates the TRUE musical immortals that still reside among us in the year 2011. It will not be long until all of them are gone; support them in their live performances & future recorded output while you can, because their kind will NOT be seen again.....
From a musical standpoint, we are ALL so fortunate to live in this time......
I feel truly blessed to have been a teenager in the 1970s and to have hung around as long as I have.....
@DrVonChilla Think how envious I am of you! 16 in 2011 and I have to put up with my mates loving all the modern crap! Townshend is the best songwriter to ever walk the planet. I can only hope The Who tour at least once more!
@DrVonChilla im 16 and my world revolves around this guy! so want to see them in january 2012 im going to be so gutted if i miss such a rare opportunity of someone my age because i can't see such an event happening any time soon after! :(
I'm 15 and this is exactly the kind of music I've been searching for so long. Every Who album has songs that actually make me think. I hate today's music, it's so vulgar and repetitive with no creativity. I swear, I would do anything to go to a Who concert, or better yet, meet the guy who writes all their songs! Pete is an inspiration.

@scartissue94 pete writes about the human condition better than anyone.im 28 i listened to my dads vinyls when i was fifteen of the who and i am grateful for that.
Just came across this amazing clip...Wow...I've always loved "WHO BY NUMBERS" and to see Pete sing this song now (ie more recently than 1976..) it's just as brilliant as anything he's well known for writing (like "Pinball Wizard" or "Won't Get Fooled Again").
Pete Townshend is a treasure. One of the last truly great musicians, who has always had his pulse on the heartbeat of his generation. This brings nothing but joyful tears...so glad we still have Pete around! Love the man!
@DamGreek You said exactly what I would have. The album just reeks of Pete's frustration with his drinking issues and life in general. Sort of like "Empty Glass Vol I"
You are a true Wholigan. Everyone who watched this video came here for a reason. Pete Townshend has crafted something mysterious here. He relates to the angst of a teenager better than ANYONE. We can all relate to you situation. Mr. Townshend is truly a philosopher and is underappreciated and overlooked.
What a beautiful song. Words to live by right here.
Mr. Townshend, your brilliance in this song, and your simply hypnotic voice saved my life. I almost committed suicide and this song saved my life, and now I live my life by this song. I love you, Pete.
Ahh you are paying attention.Yes your right it is a Who song. But it is only Pete and a brass band in the background.Well done ,for putting me straight. You win this months complimentry cheese hamper.
Pete Townshend is the most brilliant human being that ever blessed the earth with his presence, and I love him with all my heart and soul..... why must moral constrictions keep us apart, Pete..... *deep sigh*
Even if you are 49 years older then me.... I love you, so, so, so much, it hurts~~

In all due respect to Mr. Townshend, has he forgotten how the song goes? He's reading the lyrics and chords on off a page. Maybe he really doesn't remember. Anyway, it's a beautiful song -- but not in this version.
Sorry...back for another go. The reason I love this song is it is a reflection in an ugly mirror. Pete has always had self-esteem problems and self-admittedly did everything to "get the girl". This song (and some stuff on his solo "...Chinese Eyes"' make it all ok for him, me, and hopefully, lots of you who still found a way like Pete (and Me) to be cool and accepted.
I agree with so many people about By Numbers being underrated. Even critics seem to just have listened to it. I bought the RMST version days ago and it was a brilliant trip of discovery,an unusual one. Great Pete's version.
definately agree there....by numbers is my favorite album by far....quadrophenia is great too, but there's something about by numbers that just raises it to another level entirely....
back for another listen...how is Who by Numbers so underrated after all these years. Only the real fans get it. So much about the Who slips under the radar because of their monstrous albums and hits. Amazing departures such as WBN get lost in the wake of the tidal waves of genius.
Pete did an entire solo album, Who came first, as a tribute to his guru Mehar Baba and, although the album is excellent, this song conveys everything he wanted to say in that album and more, simply, and under 3 minutes.

Love Pete. Love that song. But can't help noticing three things:
1. He's shifted the key from that of the original recording (can't hit those higher notes anymore)
2. Reading glasses (can't see anymore)
3. Has to use sheet music (can't remember how it goes...although, it IS an old song...)
