Our health system will improve when insurance companies don't dictate treatment and physicians stop believing their degrees entitle them to become millionaires.
Years later since 1962 and a great many Americans sent to their deaths - JFK was right and the private industry was wrong. The private industry failed horribly and took profits over peoples lives.
I have not been reading all the comments. Thanks for weighing in. The inefficiency of bureaucracy has caused a deterioration in the availability of health care since Medicare and Medicaid were established. They are also Ponzi schemes that will sink our nation. Sure, our parents were beneficiaries, but the first always win in a Ponzi scheme. Medicare and Obamacare will sink when there are no longer funds to sustain them. Doctors will leave the profession when they can no longer meet payrolls.
Thats not true. The private industry DOES work. However, you are right in that our industry is in a state of failure and has been for a long time. Note the FACTS that the current industry is NOT private but rather MIXED. And further it is not the half that is private that is failing, but rather it is the half that is public that is bankrupt and also through public regulation that is stifling the competition (particularly across state lines) between what is left of private care.
Its strange that the Republicans are aganist goverment run healthcare, but they say that the Goverment shouldnt Cut funding for medicare. make Your mind up, LOL
LOL... seriously? Medicare didn't work? hahahahah... omg. that's amazing. Medicare is incredibly successful. it is truly the American way... this propaganda is sad.
The physician below has just made an unwitting argument for universal health care. If the U.S. ranks 37 in terms of health care quality, which countires are at the top? Undoubtedly those that have universal health care.
I am a doctor and I consider Dr. Annis to be a genius and a pioneer who saw the deleterious effects of what we are seeing today in health care. The birth of Medicare and Insurances brought about unprecedented changes in the quality of patient care and today we are number 37th in the world. Think who pays for your car insurance, fuel, monthly payments and maintance of your car. You do!!! Be responsible for your own health, do give that responsibility to the government. We must be accountable !
Yes, and if your father isn't a billionaire who send you to Harvard... and you are a working person who can't afford to pay for overpriced health care... then Just Die ... right? Wow. Nice. We are the government. Either we are or greedy corporations will take over due to our neglect. Private & Public insurance are both pooled money, the latter doesn't deny payment to make a profit off of your death. The indirect benefits of pooling resources are part of what makes us civilized.
Oh my! Talk about scare tactics. My parents were self-employed. They never had health insurance until Medicare. They paid into Medicare. They used it and thank God for it. The bill being considered in 1962 is a watered-down version. It is only to cover hospitalization. Well, we finally got Medicare in the U.S. -- and so far we have survived. This guy would have denied our elderly this benefit.
A short but profound lesson in history, philosophy, and human nature. Thank you Dr. Eck for ordering a visit with this pivitol moment in history and this historic figure- Dr. Annis, prn.
Dr. Eck is a terrific woman who knows the indigent community and serves it every day. God bless her. Thanks for posting this. We are again in a fight for our nation's soul. Dr. Eck leads the way.

The Ponzi scheme perfectly describes the current unreformed, private insurance system that is largely still in place.
Paying premiums to an insurer who does not pay out when you need the coverage is the textbook definition of a Ponzi scheme.
