@TheMaddog6789 the transmission will engage the higher gear automatically at a certain RPM. you can adjust the shift point manually but not when you are running.
@fordawsome100 thanks! i have never driven a SC8 before so i can't answer your question. the Slayer was my first Traxxas vehicle and i thought it was pretty good. a little hard to work on maintenance wise
@G1Pogorider The Slash is good for first time RCers, because it's electric. Not much tuning and break-in stuff. The Slayer is Nitro and 4WD so it's a little harder to set up and maintain, so it helps if you have a little experience. I don't personally own a Slash but they look good. The Slayer is awesome!
@weeeheeeheeed i own a savage 2.5, but i put a 4.6cc engine in it. Its having some electrical issues but awsome it the only word i could discribe the savage as.
Nice vid, I'm tryin to decide on this or a savage x 4.6.. I know that a savage is indestructible and reliable as a rc can get buthow reliable is the slayer? And if you don't nine can you tell me what broke so far... Thanks
The Slayer is not a basher like the Savage. It's more for the spec racing class. Both are reliable but the Savage obviously takes more abuse.
About the SLAYER: The EZ start gets messed up in really muddy conditions. I've replaced it a few times. I've broken knuckles, arms and the front and rear bumpers just get trashed after awhile. tranny, suspension and drivetrain are pretty solid.
go for a savage i love traxxas they are sick but for what i think your into the savage would be a better truck but i would also reccomend a monster gt or traxxas T-maxx 3.3
Riverside was shut down last summer becuz the city didn't renew our lease. sucked! but i think it might open this summer. fingers crossed. the parking lot is for the Starlight Casino I think. I'm not sure if it's still vacant.
Yes fairly durable and pretty fast. Not the most durable or fastest though. This is the CORR Spec Nitro kit. Have you considered a monster truck like the T-Max?
sounds like you put in a single speed? Why does your engine sound scratchy? It shouldn't sound like that. have you taken apart the engine and inspected it? You should. I found a pebble stuck in my friends T-Maxx!
wow, that is running waaaay too rich, you need to give it a tune or get someone to do it for you, your wasting half your power and most of your fuel, you'll be pleased you've done it
wow urs looks nice, but me and my freind personaly think the slayer is kinda slow he has one and i have a brushless slash(novak 8.5 sport system) and i have more torque but the breaks seam better than my slash
I just got my slayer a week ago. What awesome truck. I got stiffer springs and 45 weight shock oil. Also get the sway bars, it handles like a whole new truck. Much more improved!
a good way to improve the handling is to install anti roll bars, for some reason, all traxxas cars dont have anti roll bars, but im not saying there are crap!
I have a revo, and yes there is no underside protection, but the most you could do is minor damage to the tank or the posts, it is really not a serious problem
the bumpers get trashed after awhile, just replaced them. knuckles should be upgraded. rear skid upgrade to aluminum. front arm i took off after nailing a pole...
Thanks, seems to be strong enough for me. Now to get one, I just didn't to get a car with a bunch of design flaws. I guess it should be durable enough most of it is revo stuff. Thanks for sharing.
depends what you want the jato is a great truck out of the box and doesn't require many upgrades the slayer needs a few things before i bought my slayer i did alot of research and looked at jato and revo watching tons of videos and looking at all the weak spots and advantages in the trucks. It seems because the slayer is really new that it has more problems and disadvantages, so if u dont want to have to deal with those get a jato, but be careful the jato is much more fragile than the slayer
jato is faster and better for flater land or pavement...stock tires dont work good on grass and dirt...slayer is 4 wheel drive..with off road tires...depends on what you want it for...??
IM really curious and i can't find the answer anywhere when you buy the truck does it come with just any random color body they throw in or is it always red cause i really want a blue one there pretty sweet
Its about 12-14 inches long 6 in wide around there. You need a good size amount of land, it goes 45, and its easy to nail a tree going fast. Start off in a baseball field, to get used to it. But you HAVE to break in in in a large asphalt surface.
i find it rolls at higher speeds but the trade off is a tighter turning radius at lower speeds and since i put the centre diff in it turns on a dime. flat out against the REVO i think it would lose but it has more acceleration up front because it is smaller and lighter. IMO.
ordered mine yesterday... been wanting real bad.. they look awesome.. and look like they handle just as good as is looks.. i've been into nitro cars/trucks forever.. about 20 years.. and i feel like a kid again.. mine should be in on monday or tuesday.. check out my tmaxx vids... after the slayer is broke in i will for sure post some wids of it too... awesome truck man....
Hey i have a slayer too, i am pretty new to the rc thing but am trying to get it down. I have the maintenence thing and keeping it running still to get down pat. But i noticed you compained about the suspension being soft i had the same problem with the stock stuff.. my friend orderd new suspension for his revo so i took is stock revo suspension and put it on my slayer.. the things handles alot better it doesnt want to go cart wheeling when you hit a big dip and it turns like 20 x better
i have this car! it is great. Brakes are amazing, suspension needs adjustments. plenty of power, and incredible on bumbs. The tires do squeal when stopping its great.
the Slayer is fun but a bit of maintenance for sure. i take it apart right down to the bearings usually to get the dirt out of everything. i use a compressor too!
stock is a front tranny brake and a 2 gear transmission. you can upgrade to a centre diff and put a rear tranny brake on. it really helps the handling
i was surprised at the durability but the front carriers pop off with big crashes. i upgraded to RPM knuckles and they've stayed on. the bumpers take alot of punishment - mine are trashed now!
good point slashracer, you don't have to get into nitro to have fun. i dont own a slash but i have a XXXT and a B44. electrics nowadays are fast and less hassle than gas.
i've since installed swaybars and heavier shock oil 35wt, stock springs. settled down the roll a bit. not too much. i also installed a centre diff and front and rear brakes.
Best thing you can do is jack it all the way up because the tires rub against the body if you dont. also, switch it to 17mm hubs and you will be able to put the 1/8 tires and wheels on it.
nice video man keep up the good job and u just convinced me to buy on of the sucke for next summer i got the slash brushless wit novak but its nothing compare to nitro
i have to nice job on the track you adjusted to it pretty quick!!! nice jumps, but if you like the track then you definatley bought the right truck, it was made for short course racing..

i sold it i went with a losi 8t because im used to my revo and its wide tires plus i think i needed some dirt instead of an open grass field my revo and 8 handles fine
looks good. i may have to sell my new t-maxx and get a slayer. keep it rich for a while and when in doubt watch the exhaust smoke and make sure there is allways smoke. as far as the 3.3 goes its a nasty motor. it tore my old t-maxx apart and they become real beast around 10 tanks in. blow your cash on hopups not motors. ;)
hard to say. the Slayer is three pounds heavier than the Slash, so it probably pushes the Slash right out of the way. but the lightweight electric would just kill the Slayer on the straight.
jumps? my Slayer is pretty tough, seems to handle them, but it's starting to wear. i'm already putting on some alu skidplates. no major breakages. yet.
E-Revo will cost you a little more around here (thats after batteries and charger) but you will have to reliability of electric...
Slayer is nitro 4wd and pretty damn quick. But you will have alot of up-keep with nirto... glow plugs, air filter cleaning, fuel, tuning, and of coarse stuff you break when you blink!!!
this truck is lots of fun to drive! i hope lots of people buy these so there is a racing class for them. i always wanted a REVO but this is cooler i think.

thanks! the track is awesome for 1/8th scale but pretty good for the slayer.
i was still breaking it in. i think that's why it sounds rich. i've been practicing my tuning skills, hopefully i don't blow it up!

The Slayer is definately a sweet ride. if its anything like its electric brother the Slash, it should hopefully be as tough as nails. good driving.

Just got one myself. The suspension is fine for dirt. Ofcourse you'll traction roll on cement. Wasn't meant for that! LOL ;)
