Way cool seeing this. Back when I lived in Yakima there was two malls. I think this one was the better one of the 2. There was a water fountain out front and an arcade in the basement. Of course that was in the late 1980s so who knows whats there now. There used to be a store not far from the mall that had a sign of a gun holding a gun and I think the bullet part lit up. And some store that was called Ron's used coin and book. Is that still there?
Hey, I'm moving back to Yakima in a few weeks from Cross country. I've been gone since 1993. Is the mall in your video the Valley Mall in Union Gap or is that the Yakima Mall remodeled?
Hey thanks for the comment but this is the Union Gap Mall or the Valley Mall as they call it, They remodeled this one a little more too. We shot this back in 06-07.
Oh cool. God Yakima has changed since ''93. The valley mall was about to be closed down when I moved, b/c the Yakima Mall was taking most of it's business. Sears was the only store keeping them in business back then.
I'm actually moving to Toppenish, but Yakima was where I was born and raised till 13. Anything cool in Yakima besides going to the mall?
The downtown Yakima Mall is long gone..I think since 99' or 2000...But Union Gap area is Growing so much HUGE!!!!Alot is changing in Yak..but not so much you won't remember!
The only remodeling the downtown mall needs to get is a wrecking ball. Seriously, it would probably improve the surrounding property values. The downtown mall is defunct, they built a retarded looking redneck Hilton onto the JC Penny's side and some dopey loft apartments on the opposite corner, which I doubt anyone actually resides in (because who wants to live in a neighborhood where you get shot if you go outside after 7 pm?).
Well there's the Mall in Union Gap, but the old one downtown is just a ghost haunt now, I think. I've been in New York for the last decade, so I'm not sure what's going on there. I just know there are apts. being built near the old parking garage.
I remember when the mall opened in 1972. I moved away from Yakima in 1979 but it was the greatest place in the world to live. I still have the best memories of my life of Yakima. The people are all so friendly and nice, the city is small but everybody gets along. The weather is beautiful and the 4 seasons are amazing. From the pictures it looks like the mall could use a complete remodel. An example is Southcenteer mall in Tukwila. If something similar but smaller was built it would f rule
I felt the same until I moved to New York's Hudson River Valley. Summers in Yakima are better, but late September and October in rural New York is unbelievably beautiful. I live back in Yakima now, but spent 9 years in New York. Fall foliage and Times Square are what I miss the most.
