  • Nice vibrato!

  • just stop swinging your arms...

  • Nice one Sarah. Do you have trevor wye's vibrato book? Some good exercises in there. If you try singing and playing a note at the same time it will really open your throat then you can make sure that the vibrato exercises really come from your tummy. (don't sing while you do the exercise just do it on one note before hand to get the sensation of an open relaxed throat with all the energy come from tummy muscles!)

  • oiiii quer casar comigo?

eu sou do brasil e tambem toco flauta

  • your doing it in a 4 4 beat instead of a 3 4 beat

    but good try anyway

  • I thought she did it in 4 4...Hm, I spose it might be easier on 3 4. I think I'll give it a try!!!

  • actually it is a 4 4 beat, its just that i thought it would be better in 3 4 beat because shes doing it in triplets

  • Good job I play flute too!

But just try biulding more support in you stomach it helps hold longer breaths

  • just make sure to keep you flute parallel to the ground.

  • actually in marching band yeah you keep it parralell to the ground, but in concert band, she has the perfect playing position so stfu you twat infested crab

  • hahaha yeah. marching band, it's gotta be perfectly parallel. Concert band, a slight tilt is fine. As long as its not too much.

  • slight tilt is recommended, especially for younger players who aren't the strongest people, flutes are heavy ya kno.

  • yes slight tilt but not because flute is too heavy, lol

  • is for me! -lol

  • @Rodier1128 Flutes are like the lightest of band instruments, Ever tried holding a clarinet or saxophone, or even an oboe?

  • I have played clarinet for two years. However, the weight is not supported horizontally on any of those. Trombones would be a better example of a heavier instrument in comparison to the flute.

  • @Rodier1128 Good point :o

  • ^___^ I try.

  • very good!!

  • nicccce tone! =p

you take a lot of breaths though

  • great

  • that's great! your flute sound is really fantastic.

  • Lol, thanks. I don't really like this video, but thanks!

  • great!!!

  • Personally I think it sucked, but thank you!

  • It's not bad, yo.

Keep practicing. All you can do is get better, right?

  • I hope so!

  • well it is good that you are holding full notes. You have a little too much vibrato. To control that better and hold pitch try playing your lowest note as quietly as possible then overblow to the next octave then next to 8va+5th and so on. You will be suprised how much your tone quality improves! Repeat this up the chromatic scale.

  • It's an exercise in vibrato, haha. Check out Nina Perlove's vibrato exercise. She's doing it at a slower beat. The slower you are, the wider the wave of the vibrato. I think it sounds good, Sarah!

  • thats where she got it from

  • me too, i wish I could get it, but I got my Gemeinhardt 3SHB over a year ago, but I baught a professional gemeinhardt M style headjoint, with my own money, I am only a freshman I use a little vibrato, mailny during solos, or playing on my own.

  • Very cool! I was dying for a new flute, and the one I have is better than I ever hoped for. Thanks for commenting!

  • i'm suprised to here about another person with a gemeinhardt. when i got it as a freshman i was kinda worried it wasn't going to be a good brand.

  • I'm in love with your flute. I wanted to get the brio.. buuut I got my flute at least a year prior to it's release. :( but I have the gemienhard 32B and it works just fine for me. :) maybe you should look into some james galway. he's like my idol! lol he used alot of vibrato. too..... I began using vibrato in 7th grade lol but got in trouble for using it this year (my freshman year) in marching band lol :) keep it up! PERFECT practice makes perfect. :D lol

  • Lol, thanks, I adore my flute also. Mine is a MAJOR step up from my old one, so it sounds like heaven to me! James Galway is pretty darn amazing I might add. I actually "discovered" vibrato my freshman year and I'm a junior now, so I think it's hight time I actually took the time to practice it.

  • i love your flute ive seen your other videos, i dont care what some people opinions on gemeinhardt, ur videos prove how good they are i also play gemeinhardt, I want the B2.4OSB, its a brio on fluteworld and 9k rose gold but lets not get picky, the B3 would be nice

  • Lol, I'm just happy with my flute now...you just gave me an idea!!! Thanks for commenting!

  • It's good but you make too much vibratto

  • The idea is to get better at producing a steady vibrato. What would be the point of reducing the vibrato?

  • just do it with scales. i dont like that nina excludes notes. i teach by starting with a g major scale going up then down using the same triplet. and it sounds like ur doing diaphraim vibrato, maybe u need to open ur lungs more by expanding ur chest.

  • Yeah, I was just trying to get the hang of doing vibratto in triplets. However, I am not using my diaphragm for it, really!!! I know it sounds like it, but I'm really not. Breathing, wasn't really paying attention to it there, hah!

  • Wow!! You're doing pretty well.

    =)

I'd say give it more power.

  • I must say I don't like her video for teaching vibrato. Vibrato should be able to change with the tempo of the song, not go five million miles an hour all of the time. I don't remember how exactly she explains it, but make sure you're making your vibrato from the diaphragm and not the throat.

  • It's just to introduce the concept of vibrato and to help make sure that it's even and sounding well before you apply it to any music. Also, I find that, for me, vibrato is more expressive if it's from the throat. I don't like the sound of it from the diaphragm. Thank you for commenting and I think it's interesting to hear anothers point of view!

  • I was just watching James Galway's masterclasses on youtube and he said he prefers using the throat to produce vibrato.

  • i like this but i never really liked the flute very much

    but still really good! =)

  • Thanks!

  • Your shirt.. do you attend Michael Krop High School in Miami?

  • Lol, this explains your email. However, no, I'm from McPherson High School.

  • Good start!

  • Good job Sarah! Why don't you post this as a video response to Nina's video? You may get some more feedback that way.

  • Duh...why didn't I think of that??? Thanks for commenting!!!
