I'm sure most of these guys received a stern talking to from their owners... Reason has no place in mainstream reporting, if you want to keep your jobs, you better stick to the talking points and stop trying to interject rationality...
good for Media Matters acknowledging Bill O. While his history is undeniable, Bill has his moments and tries to be fair. Instead of ignoring these moments out of blind hate, like many who disagree with him do, we need to be fair and give him credit and judge him on a case by case basis. Props to MMfA
I agree with you that Bill O has his moments but exclusively judging him on a case to case basis would still show that he has a surplus of bad moments. Any fair analysis of Bill O and his journalistic career would undoubtedly show that he is an idiot first and a professional of journalistic integrity second.
We must understand that in this day n age ratings are all the so called journalists care about... in this video you can get a glance of their true selves, but telling the truth isn´t "fun and exciting"... sensationalism rules the media... Fortunately for me i don't waste my time gettin misinfomed and rather watch Jon stewart lol... he's the most reliable and objective "reporter" on tv, which is sad cause he's not even a journalist.
It is balance. MSNBC did it to Bush as FOX is doing it to Obama. Its called POLITICAL ACCOUNTIBILITY. Without it, our gov't would do any damn thing it wants. Fox CRUSHES the ratings for all other shows. Check ratings people. We watch what we want to watch. We have the remote and the people have spoken.
There is a difference between the media trying to keep administrations honest and accountable and lying/fear-mongering in an effort to take down an administration.
Occasionally i watch Cnn and Fox News both make me laugh histerically, One thing i've never understood is how some people say Cnn is liberal. I guess it's because the pundits act like democrats and don't tell you everything you should know. Fox news has better filler reports with actual journalism but for the prime time and headline stories they general say incredibly stupid biased things with a lot of shouting, i thought that was entertaining untill i found out a lot of people believe them.
CNN is not that bad, though. Some segments I do enjoy, such as the Situation Room and Rick Sanchez (you either love him or hate him). The thing about CNN is that it isn't "biased" as a news station, but the people there have their own views. If they were Liberal, do you really think Lou Dobbs would have his own segment? Come on -_-
And FOX never had true journalism. At least CNN has some sort of objectivity in their reporting.
Honesty, and factual reporting of information as opposed to spin, is the one thing that separates the news from pure entertainment. Americans yearn for another Edward R. Murrow type too inform people, not invoke emotions. I also reluctantly must applaud the few FOX reports show on this video that are honest. I am presently surprised.
thier should be more of this word call truth in the media, as people we condem people like Rush the racist & Glenn Beck the retard, who spread lies about people when they have no evidence at all
While Olbermann is very partisan, I really don't see him or Maddow flagrantly lie about people, like Rush going on and on about Obama "not having" a birth cirtificate, or Michael J. Fox not taking his meds to win a sympathy vote for Claire McCaskill.... That's pretty outrageous. If you can name a Maddow or Olbermann statement that can equal those Rush statements, I will not argue...
The other thing is, I can't recall too many times I've heard Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, O'Reilly etc. have an ACTUAL debate with an opposing viewpoint, if ever.
I mean reasoned, courteous discourse. Rachel Maddow excels at bringing on her partisan opposites and then actually allowing them to speak and deliver their point. It seems like the conservatives won't play unless they get to control the conversation (and the editing room).
Media Matters for America is a Web-based, not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media.
That is from their "About Us" page. They will only point stuff out if it is conservative.
Ok, well then why do they also point out fallacies by Chris Matthews and others on MSNBC, or New York Times? Seems to me that Media Matters is necessary because all the lies seem to come from the right...
Your confusing yourself. Just because Rush, Olberman, and Maddow have similar professions doesn't mean they use the same tactics of spreading lies as truth.
Difference between Rush and Olberman is that Olberman can back up everything he says with facts and sources.
Rush outright lies, and even republicans admit that he does. He'll never become a political analyst for TV because of it. Radio he can say whatever he wants, but he'll get killed on TV because of his slander and dishonesty.
wow thanks for the great video. I think we do spend so much time critizing the media, when for the most part they do a good job. Americans get lazy sometimes and want things spoon fed to them, sometimes you gotta do some research on your own
We're never going to agree on this subject so I think I'm going to quit now. I don't really have the passion to keep an argument going on here in the comments. Thanks for keeping it relatively civil though, with the exception being you're claim that I'm intolerant of opposing view points. On that, I would like to say I wasn't speaking about everyone who I disagree with. When someone knowingly makes false claims, I consider that an illegitimate opinion. And I do understand both sides do that.
Most of his offering is illegitimate opinion and runs his show dishonestly. I understand he is a pundit and not a reporter but most of his supportive listeners don't. He knows he influences their beliefs and he exploits that. Many people who bash Rush do, in fact, listen to him for some amount of time. And being a media watchdog doesn't make you liberal group. Rush is simply propaganda and they're trying to expose that to the people he's exploiting with his partisan bickering.
But I'm not liberal or conservative. I have no vested interest in either. And i happen to think objective reality exists and there are ways of independently analysing the merits of particualr politicians.
Something I have noticed with Americans is a reluctance to see anything outside of narrow ideological confines.
The fact that you think the extent of Obamas errors depends on your relative political position ratrher than what he has ACTUALLY done is a testament to this point.
I think, to be honest, there has been less to criticise from Obama, though recent events have led to a load of criticism from liberals (of course the whole time conservatives have been throwing out fear mongering warnings about socialism, fascism, marxism etc)
I'm not overly familiar with the American media, being from England, but I have noticed a strong tendency for the conversative commentators to be more demagogic, ideological and downright manipulative.
I think that in general liberals are more fact conscious. The role of the media in a democracy is to give an independent analysis of the facts for the public to use.
Thus far I have seen many liberal commentators criticise Obamas positions, which is more than conservatives did during the bush years, They were merely apologists and cheerleaders.
Equality in news coverage does not mean always framing discussions in terms of two equal positions.
I think it's the conservatives who need attacking. They are by far the loudest and most obnoxious contingent in the American media - and they demonstably twist facts.
Sure Maddow has an 'agenda', but journalistic integrity is being honest about your motivations and using objective facts to back that up. There is no such thing as objectivity, nor could there be.
A purely objective analysis of war is merely body counts...surely some human compassion and required as well.
Oreilly has flashes of journalistic integrity. He has such a big ego that he is not willing to submit to the conservative talking points if he disagrees. Granted he is a conservative but he is not as much of slave to the coservative line as say a Hannity or a Glenn Beck. Similarly Olbermann can be this way as well but usually his breaks with Obama and the DNC iare because they are not going as far left as he would like.
Hannity and Beck arn't really journalists, neither are O'Reilly or Olbermann. We don't expect (and don't get) journalistic integrity from any of them.
"The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers" -Thomas Jefferson. I think this still applies to watching most of the stuff on TV.
As far as the video, I don't get it - some of these clips do show journalistic integrity but it appears as if it's more about if Media Matters agrees with what they say or not.
While that can be true if you look at it that way, it seemed to me that all of the things they showed came down to unbiased common sense without trying to spin it into any direction. Unless you take into account the Limbaugh part, but that man is exactly correct, Limbaugh's show is usually in poor taste.
We needed no link between 9/11 and Iraq. We had more than enough cause to remove Saddam for failing to comply with the cease-fire agreement and for attempting to gain WMDs.
it does matter, Saddam was a cork on a bottle of extremism that Bush uncorked w/o ANY understanding of the Suuni/Shia issues he was lighting the fuse under and that are now breeding terrorists and training terrorist at an unprecedented rate. Coincidentally, those terrorist give the RNC the only threat they pose to the Dems. The terrorists and the RNC will now both benefit politically from another attack on the US. That matters.
Bill O. has lightened up since Beck came on the scene. Beck is the cautionary tale for all of the other windbag hate peddlers. Hannity, Savage and Rush remain unconvinced so far...
He did not accused anyone of anything. He mentioned that Fox had previously stated that he would NOT take his medication so as to appear worse than he was. Michael J. Fox was the one lying about the whole stem cell debate in Congress. Fetal stem cells are showing little promise as adult stem cells are showing great promise in cure illnesses. The lying is done by the media to create a controversy when none exists.
This is so bizarre. In this day in age 'Journalistic Integrity' sounds more like myth from the past. And above all, to even see examples of Fox News in this video makes it all the more surreal. Counterpunch(.)org is really good too. Check out Chris Floyd's "Torture, War and the Imperial Project The Fatal Thread" This dated April 22, 2009. One of the first to cover the issue.
I chalk up nearly all corporate owned right-wing moments of clarity on being nothing more than the simple truth coming home to roost, if only for the briefest of moments.
I'll give kudo's of course when expected, but in the case of BillO... I recall a few segments where Billy would actually make the claim that ACORN was a major player and was the sole reason for the breakdown of our elections being fair and impartial... PATHETIC!
People standing up for what's right - how rare is that? It's too rare. I'll say that. Wouldn't it be nice if it was the normal thing. People then could really be proud of this country. The people that like to show their pride now are people that are bringiing this country down. Extremists have been really proud. We need something that serious people can be proud about.
The problem is, for every instance of journalistic integrity in the corporate media, there are THOUSANDS of cases where they obfuscate, mislead, omit, and out and out lie to serve their own interests.
Well done America you never cease to amaze me. There are astoundingly intelligent individuals on your shores and yet these clowns are beamed into living rooms through 'news programmes'. Good luck.
