The sad thing is, pretty much everyone but Yuno stabs this kid in the back at one point or another. The yandere is the only one he can really trust save his mom (who Yuno likes and gets along with). If she didn't freak him out so damn much with her more blatantly psychotic behavior and he had just followed her lead things would have gone a lot easier for him.
