Did they get this commentator from Sesame Street? "The next card is a 3 of diamonds. This helps Dewey because it give him a second pair". Yeah no shit Sherlock, because people who DON'T know how to play poker stay up to watch the final table of the wsop :|
So frustrating to lose with pocket Aces. You gotta kinda feel bad for Dewey, but both are excellent poker players. But Carlos had a good drawing hand, and so the aces got cracked. You just can't win them all and luck is a factor!
Besides, if there was no luck involved Phil Hellmuth would win them all LOL
@AshmoreLikesMen It is a 3-1 dog on the turn. When Juan Carlos got his money in it's pretty much a coin flip so when the commentator states that Dewey's aces look much stronger he's talking crap.
@Alceste1977 i agree--the stats obvious don't matter on the turn, when they both shoved after the flop. I think both players played their hands perfectly fine on this hand really. Up and down straight draw and flush draw vs. bullets. Juan carlos didn't realize that he only had 13 outs after the flop, not 15, but that's still a coin flip at this stage of the hand which is all what matters. Heck Juan Carlos could've put him on something weaker like middle pair which would've added even more outs!
Haha. Do you wanna play heads up my full tilt poker username = kenlac0345 :D

@blaupunkt600 Helps Dewey u mean? Absolutely it did, not sure if the commentator realised but it eliminated 2 outs for a river a-high straight, an ace now would give him a full house. So a 9 and only a 9 would save his ass.
Ignoring the fact this was videoed in 1974 evidently it is a bit of a cooler to lose on. Mort though has a blinder flop; what's he got 9 clubs 3 aces and 3 nines to draw too. He is a statistical favourite to win this hand after that flop.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow

wow this annoucer is pretty thmart (lol). the three on the turn only eliminates the two aces buddy can hit for the straight cuz other guy will boat it. theres no way he was 33%, a 3rd grader could figure that out.
Yes the turn card is relevant, the 2 aces left in the deck aren't outs anymore and the fact that it was any card that wasn't one of Mortensens outs is a huge deal too. But yes, that announcer is a moron.
lol @ the announcer.... first saying Aces were "much stronger" when its 50/50, then saying the 3 helped Dewey because it "gives him a second pair"... lol totally irrelevant.
not true, the second pair does help, it reduces the outs i.e. 3 of clubs or ace of clubs is not longer any good to complete a flush as it would give a full house
I take that back, I thought Carlos had gone all in preflop with QK of clubs. If he had gone all in on the flop then it was near dead even odds. He had a massive hand with two overcards, open ended straight draw, and flush draw, and I would go all in too with that. Definitely not a suckout like the 2000 WSOP final hand.
If Dewey just had a pair of 10s or pair of Jacks, then Carlos would be a 2:1 favorite. but it was about 50 50.
I dont think its 50/50. To get a str8 or flush he has 11 outs. 8 clubs (no ace of clubs)and 3 9's (because the 4th 9 is a club), he cant hit any ace because that makes full house. He CAN hit the ace of clubs, but then he needs the J of clubs too for a str8 flush. He can also get runner runner Q or K, but those % are like 3/45 (cards left in deck, 3 Q left) X 2/44th thats about 0
Leaves us with 11 outs on 45 cards = 11/45 = 24.4% Its a suckout!
That's after the flop yes, sry. But on the flop he has 14 outs. Isnt that 14 cards on 45 for the turn (31.1%) and 14 on 44 for the river ? Thats like 62% how the F** do they calculate these things? Is that minus the chances of the board pairing? Im glad I play on feeling, I cant calculate this.
An easy way to calculate the percentages is to count the outs and then after the flop, multiply X4. After the turn, multiply X2. It's not perfect. It can be off a couple of percentage pts but it's close enough. Mortensen was actually a slight favorite to win because he had 14 outs after the flop. That made him around 56% to win. Those announcers are horrible.
After flop he had 15 outs count the percentages its about 52/48 if thats not about even what is? i think you have no idea how count odds or percentages.
Agreed! Juan Carlos is not someone I'd want at my table. Too imaginative and too unpredictable. He doesn't play too much anymore, but he's very tough. Doyle: "Dewey is absolutely one of the best poker players I have ever played with and is so underrated because he does not seek the spotlight."
that was very good play flop open ender straight with 2 over cards and king high flush draw... he had like 17 outs until that 3 came on the turn to take away the 2 other aces
wow whats with the video (and some of the comments) trashing the push. Open ended straight draw with a flush draw AND two overs would dominate KJ AJ QJ, which is definitely in the other guys range.
Even against aces its only 51.5 to 48.5% in aces favor. Id make that push alllll day.
