I have nothing against the average American, but the time for taking the moral high ground is long over. The USA used to stand for something (even though it dealt in plenty of despicable diplomacy before, but never like this), that's what got you so much leverage in the world, not your military. Actually, Hitler was never voted as a leader. The nicely timed recession and a few political murders did the trick, while Hitler was given the post of chancelor by the president just before his death. Then Adolf just passed a law that made him all powerfull. Pretty much the same deal that Palpatine did in Star Wars :D.
