A good way to catch these scammers is to act interested and when they ask for your personal information, tell the scammer you are selling this for your brother in law. Give them the name of your brother in law, which is really the name of an actual fraud police officer from your local city and give the phone number and address of the police station where he works. This way, an actual police investigator can deal directly with the craigslist scammer and catch them.
this is were i am shipping it to ok get back to me with your paypal so that i can make the payment LOL this is his email let him know we know he is trying to scam jimjoker92 @ yahoo . com
but for now i am out of the country Jamaican for a conference meeting it will take me a month to return back so can i pay you through my PayPal so when the payment is cleared you can now ship it to my friend in west Africa
so what is the payment for shipping because the hotel that i am now is far from the bank get back to me ok
EBAY DOESNT EVEN HAVE A PHONE NUMBER! EBAY DOESNT CARE. IF YOUR DUMB ENOUGH TO GET SCAMMED IN PERSON OR WIREING CASH YOUR STUPID AND SHOULDNT SHOP ONLINE!
So about this idea of, your SAFE FROM SCAMS IF YOU HANDLE THINGS LOCAL" ... IS A CROCK OF POO. I was selling a brand new Nav system, still in its box on the infamous "craigs- liers." I was selling it for $600. I get a call next day, young guy answers phone, shows real interest in the nav system and want to talk it over with his girlfriend Turns Out the punk gives me all fake bills when he meet up for transactions, all of them!! BE ALERT FOR FAKE MONEY!! nobody evr told me that was going on....
I love Craigslist, but hate the damn email SCAMMERS!!! This is a great place to sell local , but beware of those P.O.S. SCAMMERS!!! Do not respond or click on any links they send, their out to steel your account information and attempt to con folks out of their money! Do not be fooled, use common sense. Hell awaits these assholes!
Damn see a nice car for $4500 dollars and was about to buy it until i got a message the preson was from OHIO and im from california, so he said he wanted me to pay it with western union and he would ship the car ASAP. I also could return it back in 10 days if i did like it, he would also pay the shipping and return. I told him to call me but he said he was too busy and didn't have time lol xD freaken scammers
Scam artists can be ANYONE and from ANYWHERE, from grandma who "lost her dog"
to the company offering you a "$9.00 hour job". You don't know it's a scam until it is TOO LATE!
There is nothing more frustrating then replying to a post on Craigslist or other classified sites, only to have your inbox flooded with spam or to have no reply at all.
Hey, we can have the government get involved..don't you think Craig's List would be so much yummy better. Ooooo, I feel so safe just thinking about it...NOT!

I have bought and sold all kinds of things on CL. Only problem I have ever had is no show buyers. I have had quite a few scam E-Mails but they are pretty easy to spot. Almost every page on CL has links on how to spot and protect yourself from scams. The two biggest rules are deal locally and don't wire money. This woman broke both. Some people don't look when they cross the street either.
Here's a tip: If you're going for a car, bring a mechanic and a couple of friends with you. I've heard stories of people going alone to and getting murdered! Just becareful.
the latest scam is they pretend they are an employer and want you to pay a non refundable 25.00 dollar background check for a job that does'nt exist preying on people looking for work, these people should be bbq'd
my advice for anyone not sure what they are doing on Craigslist, is to find a friend to guide you. These people are overblowing this whole thing, at least in regards to murder or rape. Thousands of people meet and hookup for many reasons, and very few are hurt. The scammers in the rental or sales area are usually easy to spot. So, get a friend to help you!!
I personally believe there is a coordinated group effort attempting to destroy Craig's List by attempting to undermine its' foundation of trust and credibility. I think it is difficult to identify the group because they are hidden amongst the array of criminal opportunists who are also involved in their own nefarious agendas. If this is true, who would you suppose has the most to gain by the demise of Craig's List?
Craiglists is getting real bad with the scammers, but do believe people have to be a little more smarter about who they give money to, and always meet in person, you eliminated 90% percent of scams that way. If you want to sell or buy a item eBay the way to go, if you are selling you will get more money on ebay, and sell faster, if you are will to deal with paypal problems, you will only have problems when you are a new seller after some positive feedback it becomes easliy to sell.
if that crazy woman was able to send thousands of dollars for a security deposit and months of rent then why didnt she buy a plan ticket to go meet the ad person?
@departedangel89 your right. she would have only lost a few hundred for a round trip. or she could have waited a bit till she had more $, then got a place when she was able to see what she was getting
I purchased a car on CL. I looked at 5 cars total. 3 of them I had bad gut feelings about the deal, so I left. Best solutions is to meet at a public place that has security such as a Bank parking lot. But it must be when people are around.
God that woman was stupid, $3k to someone you haven't seen in person?!!! -A fool and their money are soon parted- doesn't even begin to delve the depths of her stupidity. Love it how she blames craigslist rather than admitting how idiotic she was. That doesnt even count as a scam it was so easy to see through.
ok can someone help me, i waschatn with a girl and she said if she can all me so i said yea i gave her my number and she said im calling u ,thn she said give me the number they are giving u,was she sacamming me? i didnt give her the number by the way.
will someone please let me know if buying a car on craigslist would be a good choice? cuz i found some really nice ones that are exactly what im looking for, and i've never used craigslist befor so what do i do? am i suppose to travel to wherever they are and then trade them the money for the car? cuz thats what i heard, im not sure on the rules, im also 16 and i dont wanna be swindled
hey. im 17 and use craigslist all the time. the best wat to not get screwed over is just meet the seller in person in a public place. and bring someone with you. if the seller is not willing to meet you in a public place thats a red flag. just dont send money or checks or all that junk. dont recieve them either. cash and in person is the way to go. if this doesnt help you enough then go to the craigslist thing about scams on there website.
wow i put my used psp slim up on graiglist some guy offered $200 im like holy crap good deal il take it then hes like paypals new rules r that u have to send your item in first b-4 u recieve your money ends up hes a scammer that lives in Nigeria
