  • i can kind of see slash listened to judas priest glen's solos and kind of copy that little style off ths song, his solos are just fucking tight.

  • All hailz the mighty Judas Priest \m/ \m/

  • I have liked this cut for a long time . Excellent job .

  • that's a great song :)

  • musically one of their finest. as a kid i didn't really like this album (except for sinner), but it is one of my favorites now as an adult.

  • awesome

  • I couldve sworn this was a rush song if i only listened for 30 seconds

  • @helvet666 or a Thunder song..sounds just like Luke M. :-)

  • @helvet666 Rush and Judas Priest,my two favorite bands of all time :)

  • "Take this rose ,that i give you.....i shall return....

  • the covers meaning to me.... this album was recorded when we were lucky to have Simon Phillips in the studio... providing some excellent double bass drums

  • I had this album cover painted on my jeans jacket in HS..It was awesome

  • @nnjdude1 Does the cover have a meaning?

  • Have always been a fan of early Priest with this being one of my favorite tunes of all time - beautifully done!! Would love to see them do it live.

  • Beautiful. AxeVictim your experience touched me. Thank You for sharing such a personal yet universal truth. I love this song and it will be played today , tom., at my memorial & most importantly in my daughters home long after im gone. Unyielding love,United,Rock Hard With A Purpose. Judas Priest!!!!

Now down to your Knees..........while your down there ;-)

  • What an awesome ballad. All hail the mighty Judas Priest for eternity.

  • Cracker song

  • Right on,about the cycle of life,I am at my end and find comfort. Do not despair, mother nature simply rests

In sleep she has well earned

'Til one day not so very far from now

With the opening of the first rose buds I shall return

A token of my unyielding love

So that when winter's mettle steals the earth

And all around the scene is dead and cold

This rose reminds you of a time when all was warm and living

  • Such an incredibly moving ballad by an astonishingly versatile band. Can this song be any different than "Love Bites"? Heh, heh. Priest does rule.

  • Such an incredibly moving ballad by an astonishingly versatile band. Priest does rule.

  • Priest were simply the best at innovating, expanding, and evolving the genre of hard rock and metal. My first taste was Unleashed in the East. That turned me on to all their previous studio albums (that happened to be on sale for $2.99 with the notch on top of the cover). Once British Steel hit...BAM! they changed the whole music scene again. Kudos for all those here that read into the lyrics and find meaning to them. My brain doesn't work that way. It makes me miss Summer days gone by

  • People need to appreciate the amazing works of the Priest! Everyone listens to Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and the Doobie Brothers, but they neglect some of the greatest music ever written by the Metal Gods? This is one of the best ballads ever written, off one of the best albums of all time. All hail the mighty Priest!!!!

  • 4o\m/

  • great song, halford is one of the true great voices, live or studio , i saw them live 5 times and they never failed to impress

  • @pberm1962 I believe you are correct Hal ford and crew never fails to impress is as it is !

  • 3 osoby mają monitor do góry nogami.

  • This song is so cruisy....

  • GREAT SONG, so much feeling in his words

  • this song is about death

  • "he gives HER the rose"

you people are forgetting we're talking about Rob Halford here. He's most likely talking about a dude ;)

  • @Leepaintsstuff you are a fucking idiot. youre disrespecting one of the men who made metal so popular and pioneered the genre. shut the fuck up.

  • JUDAS PRIEST---''LAST ROSE OF SUMMER''

  • I shall return.

  • Absolutely wonderful and this is an understatement.

  • geoff robins the ripper years

  • This is a masterpiece

  • good lord...the production and songs on this album are just brilliant. I started listening to priest about 2 years ago and I can't believe I had overlooked this album.

  • This is a very beautiful song about life.

  • my last rose of summer was 2005 when my wife left me.. I dont remember much before I met her or much since she left. great album though!

  • wow this agust this song collects almost 34 summers

  • Just beautiful isn't it?

  • such an amazing but weird tune for priest....amazing chord changes!

  • I hear alot of Judas Priest is not underrated but i beg to differ everyone my age (that does listen to "Metal") knows nothing about Jp and calls them an average/boring band, now am I stupid or arnt they real metal fans?

  • @GHeroandRScape Without Priest, much of what is called metal simply would not exist. But some people simply don't care, that's just a fact of life.

  • @MultiDannyboy89 So true!

  • @GHeroandRScape They aren't real metal fans at all if they discredit the Priest. Judas Priest have been around since 1968, that's over four decades they've been putting out great music. If you are a true metalhead, you always put Judas Priest or Black Sabbath at the number one spot, the innovators deserve best! In fact, Judas Priest are way more metal than Shadows Fall or Slipknot, a lot of the bands today don't write their own music.

  • @Noah58 I agree most metal fans/bands nowdays think its all about being loud but they can't see the beauty of this genre

  • esta musica me emociona

    This music moves me

  • @ forevervaj//// i instigate torrid assaults at certain establishments in relation to Raw Deal.............................

  • @bobmarleyisgod1 Who f-ing cares what Halford's political convictions are? God you're a moron..

  • My friend passed away about 4 years ago. He was my bassist and closest friend this song reminds me of him every time I hear it. RIP Vinni Gahwiler.

  • I would really like to ad this song to my set list, but I can't find chord charts anywhere

  • @bobmarleyisgod1

No, I'm a Nationalist. The BNP have members who are Hindus, Jews , African. Britain must remain British & not become communist and Islamic. Islam is the truly racist people. Look at what they do to Christians, Bhuddists, Gays & non-muslims etc. Don't believe all you are taught in school. We only hate those who hate us, and they are white lefty liberals who lie to everyone. I woul leave the BNP if it was racist. I was a teacher, we were taught to teach left wing propoganda

  • I'm a BNP brat, but love Priest

  • really a ad with 33k post omg!! youtube take a break...great song, nice post , TY

  • wooooooooow this is judas priest i love that band

  • i love this song cuz its judas priest ima judas priest freak and fan

  • Metal Gods are forever...

  • rockn rolla i didnt like sad wings of destiny is alright but im actually considering about getting this album

  • @Rorschachxx1985 This is actually my favorite Priest album and I have to say it's way better than Sad Wings of Destiny and Rocka Rolla.

  • @Noah58 agreed

  • @Noah58 I don't know, I'm torn between the two, I really like Rocka Rolla!

  • @Noah58 this was my first priest album and my favorite one also!!

  • I believe the song is about love and death. Your life begins in spring, the long days of summer and headiness of youth, however, when the autumn of your life arrives you realizes your mortal. He is giving a rose to his beloved because he knows he is leaving. He is telling her winter and death are not eternal and to remember him when the first rose buds in the following springtime...

  • @zefdin101 I agree, great way of interpreting it! :)

  • @zefdin101

Isn't he saying "I'll be back in the Spring?"

  • @johnhurren - He gives her the rose & tells her not to despair when winter comes (in effect when he dies), because no matter how cold she becomes, the rose will remind her of a time when all was warm & living. Later he says "'Til one day not so very far from now, with the opening of the first rose buds I shall return". This part like the comparison of death to winter, is an anolgy too. He's saying he will return & be with her in spirit when the first rose buds blume & life renews in springtime.

  • @zefdin101 and also hash

  • @zefdin101 But, he says he will return? With the opening of the first rose bud! It is a promise to his love that he will return!

  • @Thelordaxis - He gives her the rose & tells her not to despair when winter comes (in effect when he dies), because no matter how cold she becomes, the rose will remind her of a time when all was warm & living. Later he says "'Til one day not so very far from now, with the opening of the first rose buds I shall return". This part like the comparison of death to winter, is an anolgy too. He's saying he will return & be with her in spirit when the first rose buds blume & life renews in springtime.

  • @zefdin101 Man... your explanation was so right and beautiful... I think that's the true meaning of this beautiful song... and It made me cry C': I will never stop loving Judas Priest and all the awesome and deep songs they've made through all this years...

  • there are very few bands which have great songs on every album....Judas Priest, for me,until 1982 Screaming for vengeance, every damn song on every album was perfect....I LOVE their70's and early 80's music....

  • Judas priest was the best band in 70's area....

  • Coolest song of the 70's! "Take this rose! Don't let it go!"

  • I love JUDAS PRIESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  • @ismaelg1124 SAME!!! My Friend!!!

  • Irish Songs are the best

  • I like the part at 4:00 where it sounds like he says, "Damn it! That's the last rose that I ever give you."

  • the kings of "heavy mellow" - as my brother had coined the phrase.

  • @22CSX23 the only cover song on sin after sin is the 2nd track diamonds and rust, which is a joan baez cover.

  • Comment removed

  • As kids in the '70's we played the early Priest albums. Spent the winter months getting stoned, playing pool . Enjoying being young, wild, and free.

    Life goes on.

I sat holding my now Brother-in-laws hand as he died. This song playing at his bedside - I wept.

  • @AxeVictim01 ... Sad illustration of the song itself. Been sitting here listening to one depressing song after another on youtube, feeling nothing, and your comment finally allowed me to shed tears. Thank you.

  • @AxeVictim01 I am so sorry you had to go through something like that, I DO know how you you feel, YOU are not alone!!!

  • For some reason this song reminds me of Led Zeppelin...does anyone else get that? =/

  • @desolatesoul87 I did. Especially with the vocals starting at the 4 minute mark.

  • Sin after Sin is the best Priest album ever!

  • 34 summers, since this album came out .great priest track ..

  • @bengativo6 And I was there when it came out. Stupid old now but god I love this song. Beautifully sad.

Wish I had those summers back. Lost my wife in 09 and she was my girlfriend back then. Means even more now. Reminds me of a time when all was warm. Like Rob said.

  • i must say a lot of people that lived in the early days of the 50's 60's 70s etc ,seems like 80 percent forgot as time passed by from artists and their great works!!since there is a place where people upload videos like this one is a bless of god most of the times because it brings you those great memories of your life ,sad or funny, good or bad,o well that is me ,i love judas priest !!

  • @bengativo6 Yup I am buying their whole set of albums they are great band.

  • 2 Morons do not like this...WTF......Good Grief

  • wow !! what a song. i make love to my girlfriend to this song, and i must admit, im not a wimp, but after i climax, im sheding tears all over her body, i love this song, and befor the dawn. all i can say is wow!!! priest... you rule! (larry)

  • @foreverfan64

    AHAHAh jesus christ

  • @foreverfan64 Yeah Priest fucking rock.

  • @foreverfan64 wusssssssssssssssssssssss

  • @foreverfan64 chill out buddy. girls dont like when guys cry during sex.

  • @youarejustwaytocool And you know this how?

  • @freethinkerer cuz girls dont like getting a pussy, they like getting a cock. ahaha im just playing man.

  • This song is so beautiful it makes me cry from epicness.

  • @PandaVampires That's Epic....:)

  • So that when winter's mantle stills the earth,

and all around seems dead and cold

this rose reminds you of a time when all was warm, and living.

Fuck the system media bias against real artists and giants like Judas Priest.

  • This song reminds me of every 'unyielding love' I've ever known.

  • Mellow but awesome. Thanks for adding :-)

  • I remember getting stupid on a fern and singing / listening to this Labor Day Weekend; circa 1990. What a well written song in every facet.

.....with the opening of the first rosebud.....I shall return

  • @lookingforfun70 - I wonder if that would be the same fern that I'm thinking of, oh happy days ;)

  • turn it up!!!

  • One of my favorite Priest songs, hands down. I think one of the signs of a truly great artist or group is their ability to be versatile; Priest doing such a fantastic ballad like "Last Rose of Summer" shows their strength and versatility.

  • The song"Diamonds and Rust" however,is a cover.Joan Baez wrote and

    performed that one first

  • Very influenced by Hendrix.

  • @dissimulate666 Glad you mentioned that. Glenn Tipton said in several

interviews in the 80's that he wanted to create a song that had the feel of

Hendrix' "Little Wing",but not cover it per se.Obviously , this is the song.

  • ace tune from a classic rock album....iv seen jp n zep live in the 70's...luv zep like anyone whos like rock..however,priest blow the fuk outta zep live..no contest! page plays like a spastic with boxing gloves on! hes good, but not a great!

  • Not a cover song - I'm impressed

  • i love this song, but is it a cover? if yes then who sang the original?

  • @diogotomediogo nope, JP wrote this.

  • @ArmorOfChrist777 ok thanks!

  • @diogotomediogo .No it's not a cover.Rob Halford and Glenn Tipton wrote it

it, however has been covered by some pop singers.Australian singer Renee Geyer

    covered it back in 1981

  • @AnnaAnnaYes oh ok thank you

  • @diogotomediogo You are welcome

  • Its all about how the music affects individuals..there is no right or wrong....All i can say is that I love ALL of Judas Priest 70's music....

  • just another example of Rob's fantastic vocals

  • I think this would be a good song to play for my Woman

  • This album was made in 19 fucking 77. It's unbelievable! You shouldn't have been ALLOUD to sell something like this back then! It's just too amazing! This album was so ahead of it's time it's unbelievable.

  • @justforthelulzzz There was so much great music made back then. And

i was alive for EVERY second of it. I'm 48 yrs old,not ashamed to admit it

The year before(1976) is considered by many historians and experts as the

    GREATEST year in music EVER!!

  • @AnnaAnnaYes

Props for that man. You really were lucky.

  • @justforthelulzzz You mean girl LOL!!

  • @AnnaAnnaYes

    Lol sorry

  • @justforthelulzzz No problem.Take Care!!

  • @AnnaAnnaYes 1975! -the year I was born. haha,Boston,Judas Priest,Kansas and many more.......great music indeed!

  • @shanefire6 Not only was it a good year for Rock. You had great Jazz, Country and

even Blues too,a lot of great music came out in those 24 months(1975-1976)

  • @AnnaAnnaYes Couldn't agree with you more. I may have just been born thatyear butmany years later [now] I finally get to hear what a awesome year that actually was.

  • !977 what an awesome year!! this song is so well done!!

  • God Damn I miss her

  • Such an underated band. many friends of mine love greatfuldead n led zepplin but when i tell them about judas priest and black sabbath and deep purple an rainbow and other awesoem bands they turn their heads. This song fucking rules

  • @CrushJehovah OMFG I LOVE YOU. Judas Priest and Black Sabbath are in my opinion the two greatest Heavy Metal bands and Deep Purple and Rainbow are terribly underrated.

  • @mcwaddle thats because judas priest isnt worthy to be in the same conversation as led zeppelin, maybe deep purple, i wouldnt mention rainbow in the same conversation as well, but black sabbath is defenatly worthy to be in the same conversation.

  • @Abe91195 Imo Purple is worthy to be talked about with Sabbath, I don't like Zep anymore but sure, they are better than Priest obviously.

  • @thedeviltroy You have to admit Zep is a far more diverse band, and the individual members were more talented, at least. But it's fine if you like Priest better.

  • @KingCrimson776 i understand where you are comin from,yet sir,i disagree

  • @Abe91195 zep sucks. yawn. jimmy page is very overrated, plant sounds like hes masturbating thru most of his songs. tipton kills page, halford is better than plant. the end

  • @thedeviltroy judas priest most of the time is just fucking loud lousy noise, led zeppelin makes masterpieces

  • @Abe91195 oh,so you know nothing about rockin music? again, there isnt one musician in zep that is better than any musician in priest.none. the end

  • @thedeviltroy hahahahaha, i bet you that jusdas priest them selves would give their fucking left nut to play like jimmy page, john paul jones, john bohnam, and robert plant, and you know its probaly true, because how many albums more have led zep sold than judas priest? yeah thats right, shut up.

  • @Abe91195 what a joke! hahahaha. nirvana sold a gazillion albums too, doest mean there good musicians, just wrote some catchy tunes. thats right shut up! hahahahahahaha(ok we could argue forever about this, just like religion. i guess we will at least agree to disagree)

  • @thedeviltroy dude, led zeppelin is the second best selling rock group with 350 million albums, anyways, we have are own opinions, we both like pretty good music, atleast you dont like justin beiner or some other crappy ass artists

  • @Abe91195 you know what? you're alright, thanks for being loyal to whatever music you love-"respect! " im sorry if i was offensive,i just love me some priest. and i absolutely understand why you like zep,it just never really clicked with me,but again they obviously did something very right,as did jp,imo. rock on sir!

  • @thedeviltroy rock on aswell.

  • @Abe91195 Actually Queen is the second best selling band with about 350 mil while Zeppelin has sold about 200 million. Not knocking Zeppelin, they're great!

  • @wwerulestna oh my bad,

  • @wwerulestna But, waite! What about AC/DC. Back in Black sold almost twice as much!?

  • @CrushJehovah

led zep = over played and over rated

    grateful dead = over rated

  • @h6ksa1 amen

  • back in the day, heavy metal was frowned upon. why this song wasnt on top of the charts, or played at school dances, ill never know. Halford is a god! I bet God himself loves this shit!

  • awwwww i liam i love you dude i wouldn't know of this bands existence if it werent for you i seriously cannot thank you enough tbh !! your incredible dude seriously just wow simply perfection aww dude i love you D= <33 xxx

  • Excellent!!!!One of the best songs ever!

  • this song proves to all those ignorants what metal really is.

  • great change of pace song .Does anyone know what exactly he is singing about (and to whom)?

  • Simply put, the only band in metal that REALLY matters. Period. The end! Also, RIP Ronnie. Your voice will SORELY be missed. Damn.

  • The intro is missing, its pretty epic one.

  • Classic....

  • Brilliant!

  • I would have loved to have sent a tape of this song to the PMRC back when they thought that people were killing themselves because of this band. I would of attached a note saying "guess who this is?" Great chill song.

  • Indeed. Either this or Angel.

  • The lyrics to Here Come the Tears could make a really depressed sort to take the final exit...

  • the only song I like by Judas, but such a beauty it is.

  • @born4truluv Ever tried Dreamer Deceiver? It's also relaxing, except it's psychadelic and has even more skill in it.
