the covers meaning to me.... this album was recorded when we were lucky to have Simon Phillips in the studio... providing some excellent double bass drums
Beautiful. AxeVictim your experience touched me. Thank You for sharing such a personal yet universal truth. I love this song and it will be played today , tom., at my memorial & most importantly in my daughters home long after im gone. Unyielding love,United,Rock Hard With A Purpose. Judas Priest!!!!

Priest were simply the best at innovating, expanding, and evolving the genre of hard rock and metal. My first taste was Unleashed in the East. That turned me on to all their previous studio albums (that happened to be on sale for $2.99 with the notch on top of the cover). Once British Steel hit...BAM! they changed the whole music scene again. Kudos for all those here that read into the lyrics and find meaning to them. My brain doesn't work that way. It makes me miss Summer days gone by
People need to appreciate the amazing works of the Priest! Everyone listens to Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and the Doobie Brothers, but they neglect some of the greatest music ever written by the Metal Gods? This is one of the best ballads ever written, off one of the best albums of all time. All hail the mighty Priest!!!!
good lord...the production and songs on this album are just brilliant. I started listening to priest about 2 years ago and I can't believe I had overlooked this album.
I hear alot of Judas Priest is not underrated but i beg to differ everyone my age (that does listen to "Metal") knows nothing about Jp and calls them an average/boring band, now am I stupid or arnt they real metal fans?
@GHeroandRScape They aren't real metal fans at all if they discredit the Priest. Judas Priest have been around since 1968, that's over four decades they've been putting out great music. If you are a true metalhead, you always put Judas Priest or Black Sabbath at the number one spot, the innovators deserve best! In fact, Judas Priest are way more metal than Shadows Fall or Slipknot, a lot of the bands today don't write their own music.
No, I'm a Nationalist. The BNP have members who are Hindus, Jews , African. Britain must remain British & not become communist and Islamic. Islam is the truly racist people. Look at what they do to Christians, Bhuddists, Gays & non-muslims etc. Don't believe all you are taught in school. We only hate those who hate us, and they are white lefty liberals who lie to everyone. I woul leave the BNP if it was racist. I was a teacher, we were taught to teach left wing propoganda
I believe the song is about love and death. Your life begins in spring, the long days of summer and headiness of youth, however, when the autumn of your life arrives you realizes your mortal. He is giving a rose to his beloved because he knows he is leaving. He is telling her winter and death are not eternal and to remember him when the first rose buds in the following springtime...
@johnhurren - He gives her the rose & tells her not to despair when winter comes (in effect when he dies), because no matter how cold she becomes, the rose will remind her of a time when all was warm & living. Later he says "'Til one day not so very far from now, with the opening of the first rose buds I shall return". This part like the comparison of death to winter, is an anolgy too. He's saying he will return & be with her in spirit when the first rose buds blume & life renews in springtime.
@Thelordaxis - He gives her the rose & tells her not to despair when winter comes (in effect when he dies), because no matter how cold she becomes, the rose will remind her of a time when all was warm & living. @zefdin101 Man... your explanation was so right and beautiful... I think that's the true meaning of this beautiful song... and It made me cry C': I will never stop loving Judas Priest and all the awesome and deep songs they've made through all this years...
there are very few bands which have great songs on every album....Judas Priest, for me,until 1982 Screaming for vengeance, every damn song on every album was perfect....I LOVE their70's and early 80's music....
@AxeVictim01 ... Sad illustration of the song itself. Been sitting here listening to one depressing song after another on youtube, feeling nothing, and your comment finally allowed me to shed tears. Thank you.
@bengativo6 And I was there when it came out. Stupid old now but god I love this song. Beautifully sad.
Wish I had those summers back. Lost my wife in 09 and she was my girlfriend back then. Means even more now. Reminds me of a time when all was warm. Like Rob said.
i must say a lot of people that lived in the early days of the 50's 60's 70s etc ,seems like 80 percent forgot as time passed by from artists and their great works!!since there is a place where people upload videos like this one is a bless of god most of the times because it brings you those great memories of your life ,sad or funny, good or bad,o well that is me ,i love judas priest !!
wow !! what a song. i make love to my girlfriend to this song, and i must admit, im not a wimp, but after i climax, im sheding tears all over her body, i love this song, and befor the dawn. all i can say is wow!!! priest... you rule! (larry)
One of my favorite Priest songs, hands down. I think one of the signs of a truly great artist or group is their ability to be versatile; Priest doing such a fantastic ballad like "Last Rose of Summer" shows their strength and versatility.

Such an underated band. many friends of mine love greatfuldead n led zepplin but when i tell them about judas priest and black sabbath and deep purple an rainbow and other awesoem bands they turn their heads. This song fucking rules
@CrushJehovah OMFG I LOVE YOU. Judas Priest and Black Sabbath are in my opinion the two greatest Heavy Metal bands and Deep Purple and Rainbow are terribly underrated.
@mcwaddle thats because judas priest isnt worthy to be in the same conversation as led zeppelin, maybe deep purple, i wouldnt mention rainbow in the same conversation as well, but black sabbath is defenatly worthy to be in the same conversation.
@thedeviltroy You have to admit Zep is a far more diverse band, and the individual members were more talented, at least. But it's fine if you like Priest better.
@Abe91195 zep sucks. yawn. jimmy page is very overrated, plant sounds like hes masturbating thru most of his songs. tipton kills page, halford is better than plant. the end
@thedeviltroy hahahahaha, i bet you that jusdas priest them selves would give their fucking left nut to play like jimmy page, john paul jones, john bohnam, and robert plant, and you know its probaly true, because how many albums more have led zep sold than judas priest? yeah thats right, shut up.
@Abe91195 what a joke! hahahaha. nirvana sold a gazillion albums too, doest mean there good musicians, just wrote some catchy tunes. thats right shut up! hahahahahahaha(ok we could argue forever about this, just like religion. i guess we will at least agree to disagree)
@thedeviltroy dude, led zeppelin is the second best selling rock group with 350 million albums, anyways, we have are own opinions, we both like pretty good music, atleast you dont like justin beiner or some other crappy ass artists
@Abe91195 you know what? you're alright, thanks for being loyal to whatever music you love-"respect! " im sorry if i was offensive,i just love me some priest. and i absolutely understand why you like zep,it just never really clicked with me,but again they obviously did something very right,as did jp,imo. rock on sir!
@Abe91195 Actually Queen is the second best selling band with about 350 mil while Zeppelin has sold about 200 million. Not knocking Zeppelin, they're great!
back in the day, heavy metal was frowned upon. why this song wasnt on top of the charts, or played at school dances, ill never know. Halford is a god! I bet God himself loves this shit!
awwwww i liam i love you dude i wouldn't know of this bands existence if it werent for you i seriously cannot thank you enough tbh !! your incredible dude seriously just wow simply perfection aww dude i love you D= <33 xxx
I would have loved to have sent a tape of this song to the PMRC back when they thought that people were killing themselves because of this band. I would of attached a note saying "guess who this is?" Great chill song.
i love this it reminds me so much of my mom she past away a few years back and this was her favorite song and it was played at her funereal

Right on,about the cycle of life,I am at my end and find comfort. Do not despair, mother nature simply rests
In sleep she has well earned
'Til one day not so very far from now
With the opening of the first rose buds I shall return
A token of my unyielding love
So that when winter's mettle steals the earth
And all around the scene is dead and cold
This rose reminds you of a time when all was warm and living

@thedeviltroy You have to admit Zep is a far more diverse band, and the individual members were more talented, at least. But it's fine if you like Priest better.

@Abe91195 zep sucks. yawn. jimmy page is very overrated, plant sounds like hes masturbating thru most of his songs. tipton kills page, halford is better than plant. the end

@thedeviltroy judas priest most of the time is just fucking loud lousy noise, led zeppelin makes masterpieces
Abe91195 1 year ago
@Abe91195 oh,so you know nothing about rockin music? again, there isnt one musician in zep that is better than any musician in priest.none. the end
thedeviltroy 1 year ago
@thedeviltroy hahahahaha, i bet you that jusdas priest them selves would give their fucking left nut to play like jimmy page, john paul jones, john bohnam, and robert plant, and you know its probaly true, because how many albums more have led zep sold than judas priest? yeah thats right, shut up.
Abe91195 1 year ago
@Abe91195 what a joke! hahahaha. nirvana sold a gazillion albums too, doest mean there good musicians, just wrote some catchy tunes. thats right shut up! hahahahahahaha(ok we could argue forever about this, just like religion. i guess we will at least agree to disagree)

I would have loved to have sent a tape of this song to the PMRC back when they thought that people were killing themselves because of this band. I would of attached a note saying "guess who this is?" Great chill song.

@born4truluv Ever tried Dreamer Deceiver? It's also relaxing, except it's psychadelic and has even more skill in it.
