  • Wally Kinnan was a decorated World War II hero.

  • Wally was briefly the chief met at WTSP in Tampa, FL.

  • Wally, besides making his living as a meterologist, was well known as a trumpet player in big bands. I would assume he was a big fan of welk..

  • Plus, And I remember this at the time, the WKYC newsteam was known for kidding each other on the air..

  • It's a pity that we don't have any context for this funny clip with Lawrence Welk's cameo; I gather he sometimes brought his trumpet on set.

  • Wally Kinnan was with NBC for almost 20 years; both in Philadelphia, and then in Cleveland. I can understand, that when he was fired from Channel 3, it may have felt like a bowling ball being hurled into his face. But his colleagues at NBC appreciated him, and he has gone down in history as one of the best TV meteorologists in Cleveland.
