  • Oh my god, at 2:25 when you show the guide rod attaches to the case! I've had this similar kit for 5 years and always thought "why does it come with no butt piece to push from?" and the whole time the case WAS the end piece. I'm. Feeling. Stupid. Right now.

  • Just bought my Ruger P95 recently. First time gun owner. Thanks for the video! Big help

  • I THOUGHT U WERE NON SUPPOSED TO PUSHA ND PULL THE BORE BRUSH IN AND OUT.... I WAS TOLD ONLY PUSH THRU...

  • Follow up - I just cleaned my P95 thanks to this vid (my first handgun...) so thanks very much! I didn't what to give you the impression that I didn't like your video. Thanks!

  • Great info - but the video is blurry. Thanks I guess?

  • lousy quality.

  • @metweezer Old video

  • I took out mine today, Fired 2 10 rounds mags without a hitch, Great pistol

  • How Often Should this gun be Cleaned?

  • @stevePHXD

I clean my P95 weekly, but I also use my P95 for conceal and carry so.

  • @stevePHXD I clean mine after every range.

  • Hey. First, thanks for posting all these videos. I just recently purchased a P95 and your videos have really been helping me get familiar with it. I have a question for you though. After I took it apart and put it back together for the first time the hammer doesn't go all the way down anymore on the first shot like it used to. It stops before its halfway down before coming back up whereas before and in the videos I've seen it comes most of the way down. Did I mess it up somehow?

  • @jliu524 Email me... Are you saying after you fire the first round the hammer doesn't go down all the way? Because it shouldn't. This gun is double action the first shot and single action thereafter. If I'm misunderstanding your question, email me.

  • Great video, I'm about to buy one of these as soon as I have the money. One suggestion I have if your having trouble cleaning the nooks and crannies of the slide, a Q-Tip dipped in a bit of solvent works wonders. I use a few here and there on my 22 rifle's bolt. Also, someone suggested using WD-40, DON'T.

  • thanks for your work!

  • nice video i just bought the p95 thanks for posting... dont you just love the easy take down???!!!

  • it jammed because it couldn't stand your ebonics.

  • does anyone have a vid for changing the back sights. i cant seem to get mine off and there cracked.

  • who was the maker of the cleaning kit

  • Pacoemoney, did you limp wrist it? They are known for hanging up if you do that.

  • You didn't oil the slide?

  • So you should never oil the barrel, not even lightly just to protect it?

  • @Chuchen Never oil the inside of the barrel, it just gives something for the lead and powder to stick to. OIl the outside of the barrel and chamber only.

  • MY P95 GOT JAMMED AFTER ONE SHOT LAST TIME I FIRED IT. Y DID IT DO DAT??? PLZ HELP OUT !!!

  • @pacoemoney cheap ammo or dirty barrell

  • i need help. last time i fired my p95 stainless i fired one shot nd it got jammed. watz da problem?? plzz... HELP ME OUT!!

  • i need help. last time i fired my p95 stainless i fired one shot nd it got jammed. watz da problem?? plzz... HELP ME OUT!!

  • I think you should clean the barrel from the breech side to avoid damaging the front of the barrel.

  • You had to make a video on cleaning a P95 ? It's one of the easiest guns to break down and clean ever !!!! PLUS you could get away with NEVER cleaning it since P95s seem to go on and on. PLUS you ONLY need WD40 to clean and lubricate it. Use an old rag and cotton swabs, that' all you need !

  • how are you holding up your camera? I made a video like this, and couldn't figure out how to hold it right without a third hand and a tripod.... lol.

  • thank u very much i just took apart the first gin ever in my life n clean it

  • i use Hoppes all the time, it's funny that u mention that, u can find it through dicks sporting goods if you have not found it already

  • thanks for the great videos. this is going to be my first pistol purchase and also my carry pistol. just wish i could get the DC version, but good chance trying to find one :-(

  • UPDATE: i fixed my gun(ty cure and goodtrick) problem was that pin that holds the lever /spring lock/hammer mech was out just a little(on outside right on the grip by hammer) i pushed it back in,pulled the lever down and clip kinda snapped and it was cool after that now im gonna get me a 30rd mag from CTD.can't wait !

BTW: i use a kit sold at walmart from gunslick contains all the basics oil, solvent ,cleaning cloths,brush/twist rods etc goes for about 15 bucks..it works just fine

  • @metaltiger74 I heard those 30 rounders from cheaper than dirt jam and sometimes requires a mod just to stay in the gun. Let me know if you got one and how it worked out please.

  • Nice video, thanks!

  • Hoppes is ok, but if you want some real kick ass cleaner get Ballistol. I didn't think that Hoppes was a mediocre/cheap-o cleaner and my buddy challenged me to clean my gun w/my hoppes and then let him clean it with the Ballistol, so i agreed.... Hoppes FAILED EPICALLY!!! i cleaned my P95 for an hour and a half cleaned everything meticulously twice!! One patch with Ballistol down the barrel, it came out black!! Ballistol will take EVERYTHING off, dirt, grease, oil leaves your gun CLEAN!!

  • you can actually simply take the spring off to clean.

  • @goodtrick...ill check it out ty for the imput

  • give me a list of the tools i need for cleaning

  • @goodtrick Hoppes or some other solvent, gun oil, clean cotton patches, a .38 or 9mm bore brush and rod, a cotton cloth to lay the gun on while you clean it (an old T-shirt works fine), and an old toothbrush.

That should just about do it.

  • thanks for uploading this video.. it helped me out quite a bit for a first time gun owner

  • i have been trying out this gun at the range for a couple months now . i think im going to purchase . i have fired about 400 or so round with the p95 and i really like the accuracy and feel to it. As a novice shooter i think it would make a great first gun. what do you think cure?

  • @djplor This was the first semi-auto pistol I ever owned, and it served me well. Even though its a little big for a concealed carry piece, I carried it concealed for about two years comfortably. The size of it makes it ideal for a duty pistol. I like the weight and the trigger pull, as well as the tool-less take down. If it's comfortable for you and functions well for you, I think you'd be very happy owning this gun.

  • re:@CureForIgnorance ,i know this video is very old but on a ghost of a chance that you still might respond,i recently purchased a p95 and did a regular take down (have done it before) cleaned my gun and assembled it however when fully assembled everything seemed fine but when i tried to put the clip in it seems to get stuck before it reaches the top, nothing looks wrong but it wont recieve the clip any suggestions? thanks in advance

  • @metaltiger74 You might look at the bar which lays inside the mag well, (the one you have to move like a switch). If you bent that it could cause the magazine to catch while inserting it. Lock the slide back and look up the mag well and see if anything is protruding. Maybe look at your mag releases, too. Without holding the gun in my hands, that's the best I can do for you.

Thanks for watching. Feel free to email me anytime. I try to answer within 24 hours.

  • @metaltiger74 the lever on the right side of the gun, not the slide, but the gun, might be out, and you need to push it back in. same thing happened to my p95.

  • My buddy has the P95...I prefer my new Ruger SR9....but the P95 is good

  • I'm not a fan of the SR9. If you want a striker fired pistol, go with an XD. Be careful when reassembling that gun. The striker fire indicator is plastic and I know of at least one of my students who had it break within a month of owning the SR9.

  • Oh, Wal-Mart sells Hoppes.

  • I just bought a brand new P95 and I started taking it down to oil it, and the parts were very VERY tight. It had a little bit of oil on the mechanisms, but it was very stiff and difficult to break down, is that normal?

  • Normal break in period for this gun is about 300-400 rounds. If it's still that stiff, you might need to send it in for service.

  • Once I got some oil in it and stripped it down a couple of times, seems fine. It was packaged inside the case within a plastic bag, which had appeard to have been oiled, but there was a puddle of oil on the mag loader. Probably just the way the case was sitting in storage. Seems good now, thanks for the reply.

  • I think it s funny you had a video bashing glocks but you own a P95. The trigger pull on that thing is garbage, the only reawrding part of a P95 is that the magazines can be used on a PC carbine. A carbine that is way too heavy by the way. Iraqi security forces were issued P95 s so I guess that says it all doesn t it?

  • This gun is reliable and accurate, and the trigger pull is just fine. The nicest thing about a Ruger vs. a Glock is that Ruger has no history of slam firing. This gun will eat any ammunition I give it, and I don't have to dry fire it to take it down.

They weight is a matter of preference. I think for a full sized duty weapon the weight is comfortable.

  • i personally have shot glocks and own a p95. i think the trigger pull on it is just fine, i have never had any problem with it myself.

  • Some ideas that save lots of time and money. Who needs any $10 per oz cleaners, i uset a can of brake cleaner spray for $3z. hose down the upper and lower, scrub and wipe clean seconds. wipe the crannies with rags and q tips. For the barrel i do use hoppes but thats the only place you need that. Iyou will not find a better lubricant than mobil 1 oil, and/or use disc brake grease molybdenum kind on the slide rails and other heavy wear areas, $4 and will last you for years.

  • It is pronounced "Hop eez" and you can get it at any Walmart.

  • how much does this cost ? whats the max range for this gun?

  • I purchased this gun new for a little under $400. This gun has a 2.5 inch barrel (even though its marketed as a 3.9 inch barrel) so the maximum effective range for this pistol is about 50 yards. That's range is according to my personal experience, as gained from competition shooting.

  • great video, you should re-upload, maybe it will be in HD.

  • Yes , Great video just like all of yours!! An update in HD would be GRAND!! Please continue with the GREAT vids.

  • Everything looks fuzzy . I think i've been drinking.

  • Great vid help me with cleaning my gun

  • Walmart has hoppes

  • I miss the hell out of this gun, I wish I still had it. It's just so pretty, lol.

  • You can buy Hoppes at Wal-Mart. I usually pick some up along with a spray can of CLP when I'm there.

  • These Rugers are great guns. I have had a P89 since around 94. Who knows how many rounds have gone through it & shoot it regular. Got from a cop and is like new. I disagree with one thing. So on a daily carried gun oil WILL cause crap to stick in the barrel. I do lube up the barrel on guns that sit a lot like assault rifles or guns that are put up for the season. The barrel will rust & will pit if you own a collection and don't get around to shooting some of them for a while & forgotten.

  • You're absolutely right and for stored guns that's a good point. Its the same reason I recommend rubbing a little oil on the outside of the slide. A light coat of oil will protect the gun from rust. Thanks for watching and taking the time to add your comments. If you have any questions or suggestions for future videos, please shoot me an email. Thanks again!

  • whats another alternative for a good solvent?

  • Any solvent you buy at the store will do the trick. I usually use Hoppes or Nitro brand solvent. I just bought this solvent in a spray can last month that works well, I'll check the brand and get back to you tomorrow.

  • did my post not come up. i said, you should never clean the barrel from the muzzle side. you should always clean from the chamber side when possible to avoid damaging the crown on the muzzle. you might want to add that, cause people may do what you did, but not be as careful as you are...

  • First I've seen of this post, Mike. Thanks for the tip.

  • no problem. i dont think my first post from yesterday went through. of course on many guns, cleaning from the chamber side is impossible like on my ruger 10/22. supposedly, entering the rod on the muzzle side could some how damage the crown which could cause problems. i always figured you would NOT want to enter from the chamber side to avoid damaging the feed ramp, but the experts tell me that is wrong :) great work on the ruger p95. you make me feel alot better about my purchase!

  • Thanks for the run down on how to clean the ruger. I've shot over 1000 rounds with that thing and never cleaned it. It jammed up on me at the range due to lack of oil. I found your site and It's a beauty now. Thx again.

  • Man I got Hoppes at big 5 with rods and solivent

    and oil for $10

  • Ok, you're misunderstanding the "break in period". The FIRST 400 rounds I had quite a few malfunctions because the recoil spring was so tight. After the first 400 rounds, now that the gun is "broken in" (not "broken") I hardly ever have malfunctions. This is a great gun and it works very well. I took a minute to look at your collection and see you have another Ruger and a Walther P99. Since you have a Ruger already, maybe look at getting an XD. Its $50-100 more but would be a little different.

  • hey thanks for the explanation!

ive actually looked into the XD really good things ive heard about it i will take your advice into consideration and shop around.

    thanks a ton!

  • hey great vid

im planning on buying one of these

and i see you mentioned somthing about a break in perion where you will have more malfunctions than normal

i know the guns cheap and it actually kind of scares me, does that mean that after 400 rounds its starts to malfunction and ill have to get it smithed?

i dont wanna buy a gun thats only gonna last me 400 hundred rounds lol

any insight on this would be awesome

    thanks!

  • Thank you for the informative video bro

  • Where did you get that pocket cleaning kit?

  • I actually bought it at a gun show. I googled "pocket pistol cleaning kit" and found it on Amazon for about $8. Good hunting!

    Thanks for watching.

  • Thanks for posting these videos, they are very informative. By the way, I did find that my local Wal-mart carries Hoppes solvent. Thanks again for posting.

  • just picked up a new ruger p95 came with two 15 round magazines for $319.00 cant beat this pistol for price.

  • Patrick, I am a first time gun buyer, I purchased a ruger p95, for $380 brand new, did I make a good purchase?

  • That's a good price for a new Ruger. Its a great gun and you'll get a lot of good use out of it. Keep in mind there is a break in period of about 400 rounds where you might get a few more malfunctions than normal. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

  • cool, thanks

  • Alright Patrick I sold my p345 and I'm buying a new XD today, when is the breakdown and cleaning video coming?Take care.

  • I'm teaching a CCW class this weekend with my father. I'll borrow his and do a video for you. I'll have a few I should be putting together. Thanks for the video request.

  • Thanks alot Patrick.Your videos are so informative and crisp.I've learned quite a bit from all of them.I wish I lived a little closer because I'd love to come and take a class in fact I wish that Illinois would consider CCW but that won't happen as long as Chicago runs the state.Maybe after the Supreme Court overturns the ban in D.C Chicago will be next. Happy In The Suburbs

  • Patrick - Do you ever disassemble and clean the magazines? If so and it's not asking too much, could you please post a "how to" video?

  • I do take them down occasionally, more to stretch the spring back out than to clean them. They really don't get that dirty, but I'll post a video here in the next day or two.

  • A great heap of thanks to Mr. Smith for the video's on the P95 take down and cleaning. The P95 is my first handgun and both of these video's were very informative and clear in their respective topics. More

of this caliber (no pun intended) instructional video's are needed for us beginners.

    Again, many thanks!!!

  • this gun is great very solid gun for a great price

  • Thanks for the informative video...I found some Hoppe's at Wal-Mart...

  • Yeah, I've been finding it there lately, too. Hoppe's #9 is my number one choice for gun powder solvents and its maybe $3 a bottle there.

    Thanks for watching.

  • ya I bought some of that and Hoppe's oil...did you get my email?

  • hey man thanks for the info on Field Stripping and cleaning the Ruger P95, it is my first handgun an wasnt sure on the whole process of cleaning and take down. your videos realy helped me understand the Ruger more in depth... thanks again

  • good job this answers my questions about this gun.

    thanks

  • I have a P89 Ruger... I'm hoping your take down and cleaning video shouldnt be much different from this.. This was a great help see as to this is my first gun. Thanks!

  • hmm how fast can you take it apart and put it together?

  • In as little as 15 seconds. Take a look at my other videos.

  • Patrick...thanks for doing this video...I went and got that P97DC...and as soon as I came home..I followed this video..and let me tell you...it made a hell of a difference ( thumbs up )...taking apart the P97DC is the exact same way as you would a P95. Thanks again friend! :)

  • No problem! Happy to help. If you have any questions, just let me know.

  • will do!

    wait..I do have one!...

when you dry cock it...it feels free...but when you load up the clip..and cock it...is it suppose to have a resistance feel to it? is it because the barrel is being fed and the bullet has to ride the ramp into the barrel? is that why? I notice on other guns...it doesn't have that feel of resistance as compared to cocking it without any rounds.

  • Dumb question. Is it o.k. to use WD-40?

  • This may be a bit of a no-brainer answer, but I read the WD-40 can. And it says "Protects against rust and corrosion, items like: *Firearms". It doesn't list firearms under what it lubricates. While I still think "gun oil" or something nice like Mil-Tec is probably best for your gun, in a pinch I don't see why you couldn't use it except for the "Contents are Flammable" warning. I'm not sure that leaving a thin coat of this on your gun while shooting wouldn't give you a fireball in your hand.

  • I just purchase a P95 and I found this video (and the one on field stripping said gun) very helpful! Very well done! Thanks.

P.S. You can find Hoppes online. My local "wally world" even carries it. Very inexpensive and does a great job.

  • Thanks a bunch! Its kind of funny that the three local gun shops I go to don't carry Hoppes and my local Walmart might? I'll have to check it out tomorrow. Again, thanks!

  • Thanks for the tutorial..just finished shooting my own gun for first time. usually i rent so i have never had to clean before. i have a p95 also so this was real helpful. keep it up.

  • Whatever brand chemicals you use to clean your gun should be ok, but always clean the barrel from the chamber end. It is a very bad habit to do it from the bore. For what it is worth, I think that Shooter's Choice MC-7 is the best bore cleaner and it is worth the $8.99 a bottle. It exceeds anything the military uses to clean.

  • Please get a better camera. Love your tutorials. Hope you make more. Thanks.

  • best way to get rid of serail numbers? and uzi or mac which one better

  • Best way to get rid of serial numbers? You don't. The people I train to use firearms are not criminals and I'm certainly not going to advocate criminal behavior. As for Uzi vs. a Mac 10, Uzi is better. Its Israeli made and they do a very nice job machining them. Frontsight offers submachine gun courses where you could try it, check out the link on my channel.

  • Hi 2 questions please?? How often do you clean - how many rounds (or do you count the rounds) and a longshot (pardon the pun) Have you or anyone else reading have knowledge of the CZ Rami 9mm. Are they good guns?? Quality wise. Thank You Very Much. JAMES.

  • I clean evertime after I shoot, I don't clean between firings, but I go to the range about once a month so its not a long stretch. I'm sorry, I've never fired a CZ so I can't offer an opinion on it. Typically, guns are like jeans. Brand name means something. If you recognize the name, ie, S&W, Kimber, its good. Fred's brand of guns? You take your chances.

  • I got a new Beretta recently, it was my first gun purchase and this video is very helpful. One suggestion if you ever do a followup to this would be on lubrication recommendations for the hammer mechanism, though I'm sure it would be a little different per model. I'm also glad to learn that I probably shouldn't be lubricating the inside of the barrel, which i did yesterday during my first cleaning. Guess i'll go clean it out and get solvent instead.

    Thanks!

  • Your video was really a great help, I'm a first time gun owner and wasn't too sure how to proceed with cleaning my pistol and you cleared it up for me. Thank goodness there's something helplful in the Youtube. Thanks a million.

  • Just a suggestion: You might want to recommend use of solvents that is designed for polymer materials.

  • Great job Patrick.I just picked up my P345 and look forward to taking it apart and cleaning it after it's first day at the range.I was also "bugging" you,but the wait was worth it.Thanks again!

  • Thanks for getting on my case... lol. I needed those constant reminders. Any other requests, let me know. I guess I'll be making one this week on shooting stance and sight alignment/picture on Tuesday. Probably go over point shoulder and weaver. Let me know if you have any other ideas! Thanks again!

  • Thanks for posting this video. Very helpful. I'm a new gun owner and watching this video was a lot easier to understand than reading the manual (hk p2000). Seems like I've been lubricating my gun a little too much. Lessons learned.

One question though, it was hard to see where you lubricated the slide at the end of the video. Did you lubricate the rails or the two grooves in the middle of the slide?

    Thanks

  • In the video I oiled the grooves in the middle of the slide, but I think I said "rails". The rails make contact with the plastic on the reciever and don't require oil. I'm not sure about the HK.

  • Do guns need gun powder?

  • The powder I refer to is in the cartidges. The powder is in the case and burns rapidly in order to propel the bullet through the barrel and on downrange. The solvent's job is to dissolve the powder residue left in the barrel after the round has been fired.

  • Thanks Patrick. The only thing I didn't do was oil the outside of the barrel. And Im glad you cleared up the reason why the barrel shouldnt be oiled on the inside. A lot of people put slight coats of oil inside to "prevent rust", but what you said really makes since. And sorry to keep bugging you man. :)

  • No problem. I appreciate you making sure I made the video. Sorry it took so long... I was moving and all that. Glad it helped! Any other requests, let me know. I'm all out of excuses for delays... lol

  • Well done.I have a P95 DC and a P85 MKII and they both shoot excellent and are easy to maintain.
